LightBulbFun Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Lovely stuff (that seat/door fabric FTW) and that number plate should hopefully mean your protected from earth faults Jim Bell 1
Fabergé Greggs Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Plus, the great thing about a Jim Bell collection thread is, not only are they of top notch, there’s the added frisson that it could be put up for adoption AT ANY MOMENT binhoker668 1
Jim Bell Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 So what's wrong with it? Well, not much really. Everything seems to work but there's not much to go wrong. Manual tilt sunroof. Manual steering. Manual mirrors.Manual windows. No central locking. Oh, the heater fan only works on setting 3 and there's a light judder under braking. Guessing front discs and pads won't be too expensive! Other than that, it all seems grand. Even had a snazzy Sony CD player. Look at those glorious front arch gaps! Shirley Knott Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 That looks great, small renners are very 'in' at the minute it seems, good choice. Reassuring to see they also used 90's airport lounge spec fabric on the AX as well as the 19's.
Jim Bell Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 Top work Jim!How are the buckets on the seats? And has the pedal offset got any better since the last one? They're absolutely fine man. Really comfy. The base bolsters are soft and squishy not firm like the 19 bolsters.

Just don't blink, or you might miss it. yes oui si 1

Shirley Knott Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 there's a light judder under braking. Guessing front discs and pads won't be too expensive! The 940 did this when I picked it up, second time I drove it it had mended itself... It could just be down to lack of use, I'd hold fire on the discs and pads for at least a day or two. Jim Bell 1

Supernaut Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Give it a few emergency stops, it'll be reet. What a charming little car. I love it. Jim Bell 1
bramz7 Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Nicely done. I definitely don't share that snug driving position you have with these but I have inadvertently slammed the brakes on in one before. I feel like I should get another but gotta be a 1.1 5 speed. I've been spoiled.
Shirley Knott Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Pedant mode engaged. It's a Citroen. Fuck, of course it is *Hangs head in shame* It's been a long day... Either way I approve of it completely. Jim Bell 1

I've been spoiled. I managed ok with my size 12s. Nowhere near as bad as I remember. Saying that, I was 99.9% in 4th gear on the motorway.
Broadsword Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 That is a really nice little motor. It’s getting me hankering for a small ultra basic, ultra frugal motor to brave these turmoultuous times. Luckily I have just the thing already arranged for the weekend. 4 speed manual in 1995 is a badge of honour in my book! As regards brakes it is definitely worth having a closer look at them. On the Xantia I picked up recently I had the same problem and yes it did go away somewhat with use but the front discs were pretty poor on the inner side and more importantly there was loads of corrosion on the caliper carrier and the sliding pins were dry as a bone. Even if you don’t buy discs and pads it’s worth cleaning everything up! Shirley Knott and Jim Bell 2
Jim Bell Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 4 speed manual in 1995 is a badge of honour in my book! 4 speed box isnt too bad when theres no tacho and when theres extra sound deadening. You can just pretend your in 6th or whatever and turn the radio up slightly. Burnside, Broadsword, Lacquer Peel and 1 other 4
Uncle Jimmy Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 4 speeds in 1995, miserable!Your driving position looks quite cosy.A five speed ring piece was a dangerous proposition in those days. Lacquer Peel and Jim Bell 2
Uncle Jimmy Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Nice lil motor btw. Hope screen don't leak. Jim Bell 1
Ohdearme Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Just at ferrybridge on the way home. It's definitely a Citroen AX! Will update when I get home.Sir, you could have called in at mine for a cuppa! Spitting distance!
Jim Bell Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 Sir, you could have called in at mine for a cuppa! Spitting distance! Had I known, I would have popped by man.
Jim Bell Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 Nice lil motor btw. Hope screen don't leak. Are they bad for it? I'll keep and eye out.
Tamworthbay Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Very nice indeed! Number 11 and 24 please. Jim Bell 1
Jim Bell Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 Is it fuel injected or carb? Er, carb. Never had a Tu with injection. Shirley Knott, mrbenn, Burnside and 2 others 5
SiC Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Ah so its got a choke. 4 gears, carb and a choke - its peaked my interest! LightBulbFun and Marm Toastsmith 2
bramz7 Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 That's got to be injection at that age. I'm pretty sure the last of the carbs were K reg, I had one with a manual choke. The forum bike AX, same age and engine is single point injection. Joey spud and Jim Bell 2
Jim Bell Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 Ah so its got a choke. 4 gears, carb and a choke - its peaked my interest! If it's got a choke it must be auto cos there's no handle and it starts up cold. mrbenn 1
Broadsword Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Looks like a throttle body to me, but I'm no expert. What are the wires plugged into the top of the struts? Looks exceedingly French. I'm guessing you have to attend to the cam belt, must be pretty simple to do though.
