It sounds okay to me, I don't think the XU petrol was ever the most refined of engines.

Cheers man. I must have spoilt myself. I've been using the woman's Yaris and you can barely hear that's turned on.

Aye, when I jumped back in it yesterday after the Micra it sounded like a Diesel.  I think TADTS.

I hope you get to the bottom of the coolant leak and it's nothing serious, I'm  a wee bit disappointed it's done that right after I sold it because I've never noticed any leaks of any kind under it before. I wonder if it maybe was screenwash, was it brown or blue?
I topped that up on Saturday because it was pretty low, I just assumed these fancy-pants Peugeot squirty windscreen wipers used a bit more than normal skoooshy jets so never considered there might be a leak.

I think it can only be screenwash man as the coolant is still full.

Sponge it with some kitchen roll the next time you see it so you can see what colour it is. Or, like the weirdo that I am, I dab my finger in it, clasp finger and thumb then open them not quite enough to break the tension of the fluid and hold up to the light.

Could be condensation from the exhaust escaping through a small breach somewhere.

I'm definitely going to try this.

It sounds very C.S.I THE TOON.

Took the 405 out to do a few jobs today.

Sexy rake.

It's still not dropped any coolant so I gave it a bit thrash on the short run home.

Ah.

Red light indicates danger.

It's shooting out steamspunk (TM) from here.

And splashing it all around here.

Which is a shame.

It's still a lovely place to sit while you're waiting for it to cool down.

And it still hasn't dropped anything on the ground.

Old cars eh?

Think it's time for another Yaris.

That's a good idea.

Ah fuck chap, thon is an pizzor.

Wonder what's causing it?

Looks like it's coming from the thermostat/housing? Maybe it's stuck shut (Although that would be unusual TBF)

EDIT to say hopefully just a blocked rad or stuck thermostat, either of those would be an easy fix I'd imagine...

There won't be water on the ground, it's all steam in the air.

My moneys on the themostat, chuck it away (thermostat not car).

edit, put a new jubilee clip on the heater hose as well.

If it is the stat, don't be tempted to replace it with a Circoli one from ECP . Ask me how I know.

That looks exactly like the same high* quality Chinese radio I've fitted in the TF. The type that's impossible to see the display unless you're in an unlite road, at midnight with a total eclipse of the moon.

I had the same one in the Prelude upto last week, I thought the speakers were fucked as the sound had become so crackly and shit. Caved in and replaced it with a Pioneer effort from Halfrauds, only £35 and night and day difference. Think the cheap chinese one cost about £16 :D lasted a year tbf

I'd remove the thermostat and not put one back until winter, and then only use a genuine one.

You hate to see it. That sucks. Maybe you would like a very scruffy 205 diesel that doesn't have a coolant temperature gauge so no worries at all.

Is it a three door no sunroof?

From the vid it looks like it's coming out the hose running left to right in this picture near the clamp. Can you take the hose off and see if there's a hole?

I'd maybe remove the thermostat too and test it/run the car without it in case that's part of the problem?

Posted

Another vote for running the car without a 'stat!

It looks very easy to get at and and would cost £0.

Me too, the radio in the Scirocco has always sounded like it had no suppression, but the card playback started ok and has gradually become worse and worse.

No idea what causes them to deteriorate so quickly, but was just relieved I didn't have to rip out door cards etc to replace speakers

Selling so soon? I'd be tempted to bin off my pez 309 for a 205 diesel.

It's growing on me after a few illicit drives but I probably won't be keeping it long term.
