A neighbour has just had along chat with me about trying to buy a Triumph 2000 as a classic to potter around in when he fancies driving something different,i spoke to him in detail when I had my 66 MK1 during the summer and was tinkering with that,I,ve been involved in 2000s most of my life and gave him some pointers and tips towards the cars, but now he wants one,so his brief is he would like a MK1 or early(pre 74)MK2,manual prefer O/D not auto, not worried about colour ,and the condition must be O.K he is not after a show queen, but doesn,t want something dragged from the bottom of the sea, must be drivable and reliable his budget is about £2500,if anyone has one for sale drop me a PM,i have looked at the nomal suspects,Ebay etc,but nothing suiting him there.

Do you think he will get something worthwhile for that price?   Only asking out of curiosity as I had these on my radar a while ago.....

Mk2 should be doable as long as he doesn’t want a show queen.

Mk2 probably - but Mk1s are up over that now…….. under appreciated for sooooo long that most have been doomed.

Hope he finds one though - I loved my 66 2000 - bought for het ex - it lasted longer than she did. Auto though so I got rid a while back.

Lovely cars - floor mounted dip switch was novelty that had friends all over looking...…

£2500 isn't enough - £3500 minimum really. That'll be a Mark II Auto, still a nice thing.

I did say a MK1 would be doubtful but I think he only said about them because I have one,he actually owned a few MK2s over the years and knows enough to get by,he did say that a car with a certain amount of patina is fine and actually what he wants.

I know of one that might be for sale in Telford. It's a 2.5S

Triumph 2000's are the best cars of ever, especially mk1's. I had a ropey example years ago and loved it, and as a kid my dad had one 1984-1990 as a daily, when I was aged 5-11 roughly. That car cemented my love of old cars, an affliction I still can't shake off!!

That looks nice aldo...

My dad bought his MK1 in 1974 and to this day still owns it,must be a record for the longest 2000 ownership I guess.

The clamp on the subframe is a pain to fit correctly even on a stainless system its tricky, but if you don,t get it right it rattles or vibrates, annoying!

I had a Mk1 2000 auto - paid 450 quid for it back in the day (even at the time that was a bargain).  The headlight setup was odd - dip switch on the floor but then you could also flash the main beams by pushing the end of the indicator stalk in.

Always wanted a Mk1 2.5 PI, but sadly beyond my means these days.  I had a Mk2 2500S back in 2001 which was a lovely thing.
