DAFUK am I going to do with all my other cars.

I was going to post this in the Porsche thread but realised I was hijacking my own topic so will start again.......

I've got the Imp in the garage, the GT6 in bits on the drive outside the garage, the Visa is currently on the road but is normally in front of the GT6, then there is just enough room on the drive for my Shaguar and my Mrs Imps Megane.

What is cool about that is that we have cars from the 60's, 70's 80's 90's and noughties all lines up outside my house. Neighbours probably don't see the brilliance of it though especially as we now have 2 90's cars and are spilling out onto the road and 2 90's ruins it a bit doesn't it.

Situation is that I genuinely have far too many cars and need a solution. I've got a spare garage for a bit but it's miles away and is not a solution.

I think my options are:

Loan out the Visa to trusted shiter. - one less car to worry about for a bit. Would there be any interest in this? I could probably do with this over winter as its my only working car with weight over the drive wheels and it's got winter tyres on but fuck it, I'll just work from home every time it snows. I've not driven it for about 3 months anyhow. I will supply other wheels with real tyres on

Loan out the Jaguar to trusted shiter - I would possibly sell after the next MOT too but want to keep it to ensure it lives on as it's the best fucking car I've ever owned and I'd hate to see it scrapped for rot at the next test when I could weld the shit out of it over a few weekends.

Sell the GT6 - This is the best solution. In fact I'd probably like to do either of the above and do this too. The 944 is like a more modern GT6 but just much better and in MUCH better condition. I'd like to get shot of the GT6 and spend my hardcore tinkering time on the Imp which is just sat there doing shag all in the garage. *FUN FACT* when I bought my first GT6  in 2000 it was the same age as the 944 is now.

Put the GT6 in storage - I got a great fucking deal on storage on the GT6 from a top knotch autoshiter last year but with the new 40yr MOT exemption I decided to plough on and get it tarted up. Sadly it need MUCH more work than expected and I have better shit to be getting on with. If the storage was still available I could do that but I honestly rather wouldn't as I'm keeping a fucking sexy car off the road for no fucking reason. It NEEDS to be driven as it's fecking ace this car, irrespective of what a great investment putting a car in a barn is, its a waste of a car.

I reckon with the silly money GT6s go for now I could get £4k for it. It runs & drives and I've put in new sills and floor etc. Does this sound silly or not?

So does anyone want to borrow and old ladies shopping car, a V8 Ford or buy a rotten British Leyland moneypit? Answers on a postcard please.

Sounds like you need to sell the GT6 and roffle the jugular off, pre- or post- weldathon.

Meg needs to stay, she's practical in ways a bike carrying 944 will never be.

Sell the wife's Megane?

GR12 idea but she wants a new car too. She really wants a Mazda 6 or something which is even bigger and means there's less room on the drive. Me getting this is spurring her on to get shot of it.

I was driving the Megane tonight though and the clutch seemed to be slipping though. Need to break that news to her in a bit.

I'd only roffle the Jag post welding so that I know it would hopefully live on.

Meg would be ideal to actually fit Imp Jr's bike in, which would negate the point of the 944 but I ignored that sensible solution last week, just like I will every week for the as long as I own the 944.

AS perennial problem...

Too many cars.

Solution?

Sell/Roffle the one that's easiest/quickest to get the most money for.

Outcome?

Spend the money on two more cars.   One fucked, the other needing a weekend's* work.

Could you not replace it with the Jaguar?

I would but she refuses to drive an auto with one foot, pressing the brake all the time with her left foot. It's a similar disposition to her riding the clutch constantly in every manual car she drives.

I must have done something terrible in a previous life to deserve this.

Posted

She's been reading how to drive an auto properly, according to LJK Setright.

Solution:. Buy her a prelude, weld up the Jag and roffle it, lose the Mégane down the back of the sofa.

Posted

Buy her a prelude.

Not modern enough. Has to be REALLY modern or it will break down all the time. Just like her Megane has broken down 100% more than my Jag has in the last 3.5 years.

We're looking for a new house with a bigger garage......or maybe we should buy a garage with a house attached?

This insight into your struggle to keep the OH automotively happy depresses me slightly. Have you tried pitching from the other wicket and buying more cars?

Damn you wine but...

I’m only over in Castleford and would happily borrow and maintain the jag and can provide off road parking for the Visa too if you want some time?

I’ve ditched the Mondy so need something interesting, I’ll just gloss over the phooking huge building bills we have piling up for the kitchen with wifey.

If you want the Jag it's yours. Come May I'll bosh it in for an MOT at Central garage in Leeds, see what it needs and take it from there. If the wine is talking don't feel obliged to follow through with it tomorrow. If you have Visa space bonus, will pay storage rates until the GT6 problem is sorted.

Does the Visa have an actual metal roof? Count me in!

Proper metal roof, like all Visa's should. Sadly it has the sensinle dashboard like all Visa's shouldn't but it's still ace.

If its the wine, don't feel obliged to follow through

I'm the same on wine tbh.

" I've got a spare garage for a bit but it's miles away and is not a solution."

Id just put the excess down there for the time being?

... seems like your going round in circles with the possible solutions... what your going through is the initial 'post honeymoon' 'WTF have I done...this latest car will make me poor/divorced/homeless/push me over the edge mentally' etc etc.

...in all likelihood theres only a 50/50 chance of any 1 of the above happening worst case scenario.... let the dust settle -like all of life's problems a solution will (or already has) arise...

I didn't know GT6's are on the up price wise, so I spose ive learned something here...

The 944 is going down there for the time being but the house it's in is up for sale so it (hopefully) wont be for long.

Like a lot of old cars these days they might be advertised for a lot but they might not make much. Expectation vs reality I guess.

I went to change 'follow through' at the time but "If the wine is talking don't feel obliged to shit yersel with it tomorrow." didn't quite sound right

It’s not the wine, I’ll take the jag as storage for the Visa and you can have the jag back when it inevitably fails the mot for roffle or bean tins.

Oh, how the wife will laugh (that but might be the wine)

I’ll pm you as you’re about to scratch a very old and long held Jag itch!

There is only one way to streamline such a fleet.

Sell the three most reliable cars you have and replace them with six notoriously unreliable ones in the shonkiest condition you can find them.

Posted

Sell the lot and buy an old ladies shopping car, something like an Audi Q8.

Sell everything you don’t want. Automotive badger culls R Gud 4 da sole m8

It sounds like a 50/50 split between being gut wrenching and the best idea to sell the GT6. Personally, the latter seems the best option, especially as you now have it's replacement in the 944. Cars are brilliant things, but sadly can become mill stones at times, no matter how much we may love them.

I'd sell the gt6, if you drive it after the 944 it may feel a bit rubbish plus the 944 more than fits the old cool sports car category.

The Visa is at least small and the Jag can be justified* as a backup family car.

Posted

Keep the Jag and the GT6, sell the rest.

Posted

I suggest that you get a stopgap runaround while you make up your mind what do do with the rest of the fleet. It's the Autoshite way :)

I would be definitely interested in borrowing the visa for a bit if that was on offer.

Edit- sounds like you have got a sterling offer above!
