Frogchod Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Consider a Dyane, if you can find one. There's A Dyane Caban here in Normandy (rhd) .2k euros though..
meshking Posted September 18, 2018 Author Posted September 18, 2018 This weekend I managed to get 3/4 of the my new kitchen fitted, so I could justify moving my cars around. My garage is long rather than wide, meaning that I have to do some shuffling to get the cars in the correct place. My 2CV has been relegated to the drive, with the Lotus tucked under a cover at the back. That leaves some working space for: I'm working from home this week, so can spend the odd moment poking about with it whilst waiting for jobs to run etc. Got busy with a knot wheel on this area, which looks like it has had a patch in the past: After a short while there was quite a mess: And not much left of the panel, sill, a post and edge of bulkhead: egg, bolognasal spray, UltraWomble and 8 others 11
Tamworthbay Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 It always looks the worst at this point, but that doesn’t look too bad. meshking 1
Wingz123 Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 Great to see you have started work on her! meshking 1
Stinkwheel Posted September 18, 2018 Posted September 18, 2018 Ouch, I didn't realise it had got that rusty meshking 1
meshking Posted September 18, 2018 Author Posted September 18, 2018 No worries - I'm not phased by this. Once the knotwheel gets involved panels have little chance. Will crack on with more unpicking this evening. Stinkwheel 1
meshking Posted September 18, 2018 Author Posted September 18, 2018 Yuk. Plenty of grot in this corner, luckily all panels are available. Fumbler, UltraWomble, Joey spud and 5 others 8
meshking Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 Managed to spend sometime this morning on unpicking, a few patches had been let in and the floor is on the way out too. I've placed the first (of no doubt many) orders for bits for the van on Thursday just waiting for them to arrive. Managed to get a new bottle of hobby weld, no questions about the empty tank and didn't want to see the original receipt. Skizzer, Exiled_Tat_Gatherer, catsinthewelder and 4 others 7
Stinkwheel Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 I am really glad to see progress being made so quickly. The van deserves a decent owner taking care of it at last. meshking 1
Frogchod Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 This turned up at Frogchod towers today Sorry to highjack this thread. Have a bump, I'm off to Leboncoin.... chaseracer, dollywobbler, egg and 6 others 9
meshking Posted September 24, 2018 Author Posted September 24, 2018 Oooh nice. But doesn't Citroën prefere Total? rob88h, egg and Wingz123 3
meshking Posted October 19, 2018 Author Posted October 19, 2018 Quick update. Things are progressing slowly - I lost a bit of mojo, and coupled with busy work things happening I didn't get much done. I did get the new sill fitted, then realised I'd cut out a strengthener for the upper door hinge.... Luckily I realised this before I fully welded it in. Pics below show the progress. Not sure what to do with the window lip at the moment, no repair panels so I'm going to have to put my creativity hat on. Inner sill Bulkhead repairs and triangle strengthener tacked in Rusty side window lip My thoughts are with the eventual colour. I quite like this: dollywobbler, theshadow, Stinkwheel and 13 others 16
meshking Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 So where did I get to on this? First off, I've found sometime to do more of the sill and get the a panel fitted. I'm spending a lot of time chasing holes but I'm getting there. I was going to fit a quarter floor, but I soon found another patch on the floor which made me think I'd just replace the whole floor. I don't have the floor, so the next order I place will get this delivered too. That means I can pay attention to the window. This is tricky. 1.2mm thick "steel", and it seems to have a 7.5mm gap between glass and steel for the rubber seal. So, armed with that info, I formed a plan - to weld in some steel beyond where it needs to be, then trim back to the correct profile. Hopefully this will work! dollywobbler Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Just plate over the window hole. Blind spots are fun! theshadow 1
meshking Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 No sure about plating over that a hole that size... In other news, work is slowly progressing. It's clear that there has been a leak onto the parcel shelf for some time. So time to fix that before turning the van around and starting on the other side. Chop chop Cutout some sheet steel, tack on the old mounting strip and voila! Need to weld it in, but I'm fairly happy. It won't be seen. My thoughts are turning to paint. I'm not sure my welding skills befit a proper paint job, so I'm considering another rustoleum paint job... It went on well in my first attempt. Note, doors are professionally painted here... LightBulbFun Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 I have to say I quite like its current bright multi coloured paint job maybe replicate that to some extent?
meshking Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Two tone is a possibility, but not different colour on each panel!
shedenvy Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Have to agree with DW. No need for concours. One shade in a commercial hue will look great, as much as I was loving the harlequin edition that is.Below; photo taken late 80s I think, my mum is 68 now. But dont tell her I told you lot. meshking and BorniteIdentity 2
mk2_craig Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Fair quantity of new metal going in there! Love those (BX GT?) seats, are they staying?
meshking Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Yes, they're bx gt seats I think. They're staying, very comfortable. Burnside and mk2_craig 2
meshking Posted February 24, 2019 Author Posted February 24, 2019 Wow. November since last update. I blame a new job that has eaten into my evenings, but I have made some progress. I'll let the pics so some talking. Still need some paint on the front end, the sides need flatting down another a finish coat applied, its never going to be perfect, but it's an acadiane - it never was! I'm moving my other car out of the garage so we can start building works, but first I'll repair the bonnet and spray the wings so it's all in one colour. PhilA, theshadow, RayMK and 8 others 11
meshking Posted February 24, 2019 Author Posted February 24, 2019 Forgot to add: there is emulsion paint on the window rubber that I'd like to remove. Does anyone have any ideas how to remove it? I've tried with cellulose thinners, but it doesn't budge.
