1.3. Not sure of the origin

Could you post a photo of it? The Wikipedia page for the Opel Agila only shows GM engines none of which are 1.3 petrols so it must be a Suzuki engine.

Posted

If its a Suzuki engine then its the 1.3 from the Ignis IIRC. Bloody good lump. Frugal and pokey.

Definitely not Vauxhall! That radiator cap does look distinctly ching chong although pipework from the air filter DOES look Vauxhall-ish

It's an earlier version of the 1.3 used in the Ignis, but it is less powerful (75bhp as opposed to 91) and does not have vvt.

The Wagon R did not share engines with the Agila, GM choosing to use their own 1.0 and 1.2 Corsa engines.

Wait.

The Suzuki Ignis 1.3 has 91hp?! Damn, I want one now.

I think I'm wrong, the Ignis didn't get the vvt one. Just the Swift.

I'm sorry I mentioned the Uglia.

You will be...

To be fair, it's easily worth double, it was just a poor advert with only a short description and a couple of pictures. Similar cars tend to go for quite a bit more.

It's exactly what I needed, and exactly what I wanted.

Shame those trim rings rattle, they look the buisiness!

Perhaps paint the steels silver? The steel pressing looks quite nice.

Also, in regards to the number plate, do you really want to ditch that original front plate?

Posted

I'm no vauxhall hater but it just seems much more legitimate with a Suzuki badge on the front.

I have some grip tape I used for the Mini trims, might try that.

Even if I replaced the plate, I'd still keep it.

This thread has got me looking at used Suzukis now.

We had a 1.0 Agila and to be fair it wasn't that bad. Not convinced it would have been any protection in a crash, and note they have four seats not five, but it was nice and practical and OK to drive.

Worst things about it were the irritatingly small boot, and the engine. So you only need to worry about one of those.

Posted

They have a Euro NCAP rating of - Zero. (untested).

The boot is bigger than the Mini's one, so I'm happy.

Wondering about wheels...

Do I..?

A) Just put some generic trims on the 14 inch steels.

B) Use the steels from the Mini and possibly the chrome hubcaps too.

C) Find some alloys that look reasonably OEM

Like these:

D: Frisbee the trims and leave it on bare steels.

That's how it is currently  :)

Forget about wheels just now unless the tyres are toast, check the car and do some preventative maintenance.

Fair point. "winter is coming"

Brake pads and wipers are on the to do list.

Mrs BMH had an uglia and absolutely loved it. It was the 1.0 litre three cylinder IIRC. Even after the ECU failed (the pauxhall ones are screwed to the end of the engine and do get hot) she was on at me to fix it. Second hand unit, eBay software and it was ok.

Only problem I could never fix was the Speedo. It's electric and I managed to trace down to roughly where there was no signal. New wire sorted it?. Er, no. Speedo worked, but read twice road speed from then on. Mind you, 50 in it felt like you were doing 100.

You will have sold it before then, won't you? ;)

I'm sure a silver Y reg Wagon R driven past me this morning. I immediately thought 'lunchbox on wheels' . ;-)  You weren't in Norwich were you Pandamonium??

I wouldn't bother with alloys or trims unless they're dirt cheap.
