Collection Day: West to East

Hi All,

So the Sabbath is upon us, and tis the day to meet Chod Almighty as we place our faith in his son, public transportation.

For those of you who haven't seen my virginal posting a couple of days back: I'm off to Kings Lynn from Falmouth in Cornwall to collect a temporary flagship. That's 370 miles (oops).

My 2003 Mercedes S-Class has air suspension issues and rather than use second-hand or recon struts yet again, I'm waiting for my house to sell to free up the funds to sort it once and for all.

In the meantime, I wanted a temporary Merc shed for £500 or less. Having realised after years of Merc ownership that this was a terrible idea, I decided that entering the Autoshite community was the way forward.

So, the adventure begins to collect my FleaBay bargain (whether that needs an asterisk remains to be seen).

Leg one: Falmouth to Truro Station via 2003 E320CDI, having awoken the family at an early hour, for which they are incredibly grateful*!

Thanks!

Yes, I think there's a problem with the offside strut on this one too, but with the S giving me enough trouble in the airmatic department, I'm just ignoring it. A perfectly reasonable thing to do, right? :-D

"hmmm. I've got two Mercs with suspension issues. How should I fix it..... Oh yes I shall purchase another one."

Well played, good luck!

Haha, that would be my usual logic - but this time, despite my search starting with Mercs, my homeward steed is a different beast* entirely.

There's certainly no air suspension...

Leg 2:

Quality diesel choo-choo will convey me from Truro to London Paddington!

Time to settle in!

Hopefully you don’t need her but shes ready to go if you do! I’ll be about all day if you do decide to stop.

Damn, I never thought about looking for one of those - always thought the pick-up version was a handsome beast.

Alas, there is no Mercedes connection whatsoever. Although the rear could look a little like a W202 C Class if you're drunk and cross your eyes a bit.

1) Unexpected upgrade to First Class.

2) Pretend it's my son's lunchbox, when actually it's not. But it fits in the work bag nicely!

3) Tuck in while everyone else pays through the nose in the buffet car.

?

I'd say two more pints required.

It's a 2002, got a 2.0 GM engine, auto box (allegedly designed by ZF!?) and it could also be accused of looking like a prototype Jag - much more so than a W202.

Is it a Chevy Evanda or one of its relatives?

EDIT: I thought Leganza but the triangular shapes of the Evanda's taillights made me lean towards that. In any case excellent choice, I wanna know more now!

Well, he’s off down the plug hole now for the trip across that there London.

You can't spell "legend" without "Leganza". Can't remember the last time I saw one of those - fingers crossed.

Even better if it's a Nubira. I had a weird liking for them as a kid.

Crikey, a small handful of you have caught up with my clues but also churned out some attractive others along the way.

Yes, it is indeed a Leganza, though that Chevvy Evanda looks intriguing!

Trip update: great catch up with 83C, who duly sent me on my merry way in Landahn Tahn. I've been buggered about by tube closures but thankfully made my way to Kings Cross and now on some electric Choo Choo thing to Kings Lynn!
