In developments, I hooked up the battery to the E36 today and it started, in a massive cloud of diesel clag which probably shortened my life span by a few years. 

 

And then it got driven for about 10 miles and drove as if nothing had happened. Hmmm.

 

I even had bad thoughts about keeping it but naaah

 

Maybe the battery is piss weak?

Yup, my guess it's a weak battery, or just not big enough. 605s seem very heavy on their batteries (all that cutting edge late eighties and nineties tech). The battery in my V6 was quite new, but never could start it without some kind of assistance. I put a big f**k off Bosch in it, which cured the problem.
