Cheap heap o' grief? MOT success shocker!!

I had to buy this as it was about to be squished. 2.1 Turbo Diesel Auto (SED - aircon, leather an' that).

At 160,000 miles, XM experts will tell you it's due to pop the head gasket and parmp the gearbox. But it was only £160 with a month of MOT and tax til November. :D

And I like it.

I like that :D XMs have got stupidly rare, i cant remember when i last saw one!Surely the last of the quirky Citroens?

you have a fair point :D I forgot about the C6 :(

That is lovely. Bargain too. I was thinking the other day how rare XMs have got when I saw a beautiful G-plate V6 in metallic blue on my way home from work. I'll have to get myself another one before they vanish completely or start making daft money like CXs.

nice looking interior

Yup - it's a lovely, comfy place to be - kind of eases the general panicky feelings you get when driving an unknown XM. :D

For me the interior and dash can have a big influence on my opinion of a car. I had a 505 GTI Family - it was a brilliant car in every other way, but every time I look a another, memories of that miserable grey dash come back. I honestly felt entombed behind it!

Shame as the earlier 505 had a nice dash...

As,apparently, have 99.9% of the car buying public.........big, luxurious French stuff always seem to bomb spectacularly over here.

I heart XMs big time.Does it have the electric storage box thing between the seats, they're so cool?I'd have thought at that mileage the gearbox would have been replaced or repaired by now, so you shouldn't have to worry about that hopefully. The thing to watch for is the condition of the strut tops as they like to ROT LIKE A TURPS NUDGER'S LIVER and then exit through the bonnet.Anyhow nice work, if there was a 'car of the month' competition on here your's would get my vote no danger.

That's a real bargain, is there much wrong with it apart from being an old and unloved big French car?

I've been on the lookout for an XM but they're either £3k and well-maintained or £300 and neglected. Very little middle ground.

Love that interior. 8) I prefer the look of it to the phase 2 effort

Thats lovely, good save!

Nice catch, Tim 8) Still lots of XM spares in the lockup; drop me a PM, should you be needful.

Very tidy looking, that's a helluva lot of car for the money and the interior is fabulous.Nice one. 8)

It does indeed - cool and quite pointless :)Hey - I did a quick weldz of the sill (out in the rain last weekend - not recommended) and replaced a balljoint and one small coolant hose. Took it for an early test yesterday and all it needed was front drop links. I was going to do those before I discovered the super-worn balljoint - I assumed it was the latter that was causing the knocking - but it was the links too. Anyhoo - I had a pair of links in the boot so my tester plopped them on - and hey presto - New MOT!Tracking is way out - looks to have ruined a decent pair of front tyres - so that needs doing, and the 'sticky' bit of gearbox dip stick has fallen inside the box itself. That'll be fun when I change the fluid and filter :o Still - I love driving it - aircon is super chill (never had a car with working a/c before!) and it has a six-disc CD player thingy. It may well be living on borrowed time (autoboxes in these are apt to die without warning apparently) but I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts! If I exclude the cost of the MOT test itself and the value of the tax still on the car, this has cost me about £165 now! :D I'm well chuffed!

Exec-llent!I WILL have an XM one day as it's the obvious upgrade from the BX, for similarly deflated prices, but the way things are going money-wise I'm thinking I'll have to downsize soonish to <1549cc for more economy and less tax, so no wafty luxobarges for me :( Most BX14s are pov spec and have a wierd gearchange compared to the BE3 gearbox in mine so I'm gonna have to look elsewhere...Mark.

Congratulations Mr Flakes. Amazing interior, would've been terrible to think that getting squashed.

Excellent work indeed! I'd love one of these but would be way too scared of impending doom if I had one. Good work on saving it!

Are you certifiable? Tax isn't that expensive, ffs.

france insurance is dead expensivre for anything over 2800cc..congrats on the MOT pass :D superbe

I hate the fact that the BX is 104.50 for 6 months as compared to 68.75 for the GSA (as I'd rather pay the bloody surcharge than shell out for the full 12 months) ... then factor in that I'm skint and living on my overdraft and loans etc /sad violin tune  Mark.

Nice one.Good user for the summer months. Keeper for winter?

Betcha a Turbo-Wiesel XM gets better economy than your Petrel BX....

I must correct myself! It is both cool and useful! I discovered on the way home from work tonight that you can lower the steering column and raise the seat so the steering wheel sits near enough on your knees. One elbow on the door armrest, the other on the padded top of the electric storage box thing - makes for very relaxed cruising. 8)

An electric storage box?Surely that's just a battery. My car has one of those :)
