Father In Law's Facebook bargains and what he 'barried' next!

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

According to the father in law this car was a bargain £300 when he drove up in it to our house, its a 2.0 sport he proudly he announced and there's nothing wrong with it.

Apart from the ESP light he then added but he has a replacement sensor for it that needs to go under the rear seats...

2 days later the exhaust fell off, after snapping in front of the cat. Cue some bad emergency welding.....

And then off he goes with a promise to get a catalytic converter section and new exhaust hanger welded on. Months later he turns back up for cat reweld as it has snapped again, oh and its now overheating when it uses up its coolant? 90909bd3304bea7c6bda7cf3fcb69e70.jpg4ebfed06706a42162f1a2ab3c0d0fbab.jpg

So now onto today's fun of what gets hotter? The engine or the car. Never used this before but its worth a try I believe. New viscous fan coupling and thermostat already changed and no leaks visible but using coolant so potential HGF. b84f250c6fa1c5ff1c3e599a87cd7f2e.jpgafda874820659c64d4839c5444ef0bb6.jpg

An airbag light hmmm,

Engine light on.... Because who needs a MAF when you can have a cold air intake cable tied above your exhaust manifold and cat lol.

Bonus view of dodgy HID wiring into standard headlamps.

Your father in law ought to have stayed at home instead of buying that.

What's the steering wheel all about?

Does the 2.0 petrol only rev to 5k or has it been fitted with diesel clocks?

Diesel clocks. I believe they'll peg at max revs when you exceed 5k. Like some super tuned car. Maybe that explains the hideous and pointless (in a Passat) steering wheel.

That steering wheel would be shite on a corsa but on a Passat? If anything has ever shouted run a mile.........

doesn't look like there is an airbag in that shit steering wheel hence the light

Is the steering angle sensor even still there with that wheel on?

The steering angle sensor will not calibrate until the srs system performs an OK check and passes. Does no one else fancy death by cheap Chinese steering wheel?

Lol, these 2.0 sports are terrible. Sports is a trim level only. The 2.0 is the old 8v engine design, updated, but first seen in the 70s. If he's lucky it's be an ALT engine code and manage 130bhp and 35 MPG. If he's not it'll be an AUZ for 120bhp and 30 MPG. They're toughish, but suffer stem seal failure and piston slap.

The 1.8t by comparison will make 120bhp and 35-40MPG in most basic tune.

Horrendous, top work.

Father in law is in his 50s but never grew up when it comes to cars and this car looked good when he got it but he ruins them quickly with his ebay and Facebook bargains.

Two forward facing camera's? One is built into the most awful blue tinted rear view mirror.dfa344d9f2df70386b36843293722e9b.jpgae7e22aca7907e9c0be9f62900617cfd.jpg

I swear by those blue tinted rear view mirror cameras - all of my fleet have them. You can also hook up a rear view camera to them as well if you can be arsed. I can't. Always pick them up for between £15 and 20 on Amazon Warehouse where they get returned because the Chinglish instructions are as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Really come into their own during winter rush hour driving and reduce the headlight glare from chunky SUVs right up your chuff.

And a nice big mirror to boot.

Picture quality is pretty good, but they are really built for the LHD market.

When sent off to replace the cat section of exhaust he came back with this cat back 2 1/2 stainless single box awful sounding thing. Did not change the cat or replace broken bracket that caused the damage.

The Engine code is AZM its 115 bhp. But he claims it handles better than the standard passat he once had. I can't wait to remind him that sports is the trim level.

I have a Sharavan 2.0 with basically the same engine parked in shot. Think it's a ATM code about 100 bhp.

Mods like cack steering wheels and shit accessory induction kits like that always make me run a mile, its the sure sign some sort of wally has had it.

12v lighter socket to mini USB cable - seem to be quite hard to find on eBay. Micro USB won't do it.

He is a nice bloke and very helpful with most things but everything he touches is left with the same type of work quality seen in my pics.

I am not looking forward to driving this to see if it overheats.

Does this mean cambelt changed or checked?

Changed, but anybody can Tippex things onto engines. Best to assume it's not been changed and do it.

Steel seal instructions followed. Car has been driven around now and all seems OK but this is a time will tell problem as we need to see if the coolant consumption reduces as the low coolant level seems to be what causes it to overheat.

Full of admiration for anybody who never grows up in terms of their vehicles.

However, petrol engine and that steering wheel mean its a passat but without passat advantages.

passat advantages.
