The Mighty Dacia - 1310 estate - Cat's tales

I haven't had time for any investigations at all. Still seems fuel related to me, but could be that there are two issues.

Mr Cats is now away. I had to nip into town for an errand before collecting him, and managed to park up right in front of a HubNut fan! That was their day made. I miss the Dacia already...

Did they swoon in your presence ??

If there's one thing I've learned from the last few years it's that the world is a heck of a lot smaller place than you think!  Always fun when things like this happen randomly though.

I'm home. Took a bit longer than planned as the mountain road was being resurfaced so there was a half hour wait followed by several miles of 30kmph ding ping ping ding etc over the loose chippings.

Yeah, sorry about that! I've just been told that they're resurfacing that bit...

Looks very dry where you are Cats, I think the UK could actually do with some rain for once.

Well that was a pleasant collection. Arrived at Where to be greeted by a white Dacia estate.

Shortly afterwards the right one arrived.

We had a nice run back up to Ian's and I got to sit in the Invacar and the Fox while we nattered and drank tea.

The run back was very scenic. There was the enforced stop but most people were friendly and milling round and nattering in the sun. The car made it back well, a little bit of hooning was had which reminds me that it might be worth renewing the front tyres and creaking engine mounts.

Dunno what that is but it looks like some sort of Communist military truck so I thought you were back in eastern Europe!

No police stops 0/10 for entertainment.

With the parched grass, sunny sky and scenic backdrop that could have been Romania.

I've got used to the dry conditions here but seeing how empty the rivers were in Wales was a bit worrying.

I took the kids out for a spin in the car after dinner, started 3rd go!

Did you have to re-mot this in the end or is ok on the Romanian one?

Currently on the Romanian one. We do plan to get it tested once we've resolved some of the issues.

Bit confuzzled who owns the car, have I missed something?

I know you both collected it but I thought you were the Keeper Ian?

I'm the registered keeper, but we're sharing the car. Though, the way my life is going at the moment, I may have to sell my share. Which is annoying.

(Wanders around in the vicinity looking aimlessly and whistling no tune whatsoever)

"Oh, you might want to sell your share Mr Wobbler?" Oh.

Is it legal at the moment?

Is it legal at the moment?

On the Vehicle Enquiry website, it shows as having Tax and MOT, so I say yes.

Drove it down to work today where it attracted a bit of attention.

It now has a tube in the troublesome tyre as there is a pinhole in the rim. I'm going to paint the other wheel white and get a new(er) tyre fitted so the tubed one can be the spare.

Posted

Can't you ( or I ) just weld up the pinhole?

I did think about that afterwards but had dropped the tyre off with please fix this and had been handed it back with 'it's got a tube in, £10 please.

Serves me right for using TNT really.

I've just also remembered that Claudiu recommended retorquing the cylinder head bolts and redoing the valve clearances. No idea what the settings should be!

Looks tidy that car does from the pictures - whats it like up close? Is a t-cutting and a polish on the books? Also out of pure interest would that car have any resale value over here? I.e would it sell over here for what you paid for it?

Posted

It's a bit of a ten harder as the original paint was awful so Claudiu has needed to touch it up in many places.

Mechanical tweaks with no idea of settings sound exciting. If I get a spare minute I shall start research.

First day I haven't driven it and I've found a local Hubnut fan.

I'm pretty sure both of you have hubnut fans living in the boot of your cars that poke their head out every so often.

It would explain the funny squeak at 3000rpm

I've been pottering around in the Dacia for a few days and the starting issues are definitely improving.  It sometimes starts first time, though it is often 3rd or 4th.  I drove it down to a friendly breakers earlier as they are generally good for finding a part that fits.  The gaffer explained that I couldn't just wander round anymore and wasn't really supposed to go into the yard but still found someone to escort me in.  The lad said there weren't any suitable headlight donors in the yard so led the way into a shed stuffed with lights for shite.  We found one round headlight that was too big, one the right size which was a foglight and then struck slightly rusty gold.

Labelled 'capri' it should cut down to provide adjustable mounting for dipped beam lights on each side.  The main beams can stay as they are.  Best £5 I've spent in ages.

On the way home the Dacia played its party trick of loosing power to the dash.  Apart from the speedo all the gauges fell to zero and all warning lights stopped working.  It did it for long enough this time that I could find the problem.  One of the fuses had corroded,  if wriggled everything comes back on.

What does the AS massive think of these?
