Pre 1990s number plate wanted

I'm about to buy a van that I need to disguise the age of -  my dad will use it for his work and he's not allowed to drive owt older than 6 years. This van is 12 years old (but it's the same as a 2016 one)

Is anyone scrapping owt pre 1990 ish? Stick the plate on retention and I'll give you a drink for your time.

I don't want to put a personal plate on and look like a personal plate wanker, but a prefix/suffix plate on a late 2000s van is oddball rather than nobhead.

Try Sppedyreg, for about £104 'all in' you can haz a cheap suffix plate. For a bit more you can have a basic Irish plate such as TIG xxxx. If your Dad's a welder, you've just joined the cherished reg club.

It will cost someone £80 to put any number on retention, by the time you've added your drink on top there isn't going to be much in it

This, to me, sounds like a perfect excuse to buy some old shite.

Are they that gullible?

Wouldn't they do a quick reg check? Especially if you end up with a 1990 plate and you get a jobsworth who thinks it is 28 years old and sets alarm bells ringing?

That said, one colleague who took the cash in lieu of a company car had all sorts of issues as he had a (crappy) personal plate **04*** and transferred it to his new car when the old one hit 5 years old. They wouldn't or couldn't understand the concept of the car changing but not the plate.

The C70 for sale on here for £250 has a T5 --- plate on it. Perfect for a VW van, in fact if I could be arsed, I should buy it, sell the number to a Dubber for £300 then weigh it in for £150- if I could be arsed...

Pleasure, Plates for Less are good as well. Pay a bit more and you have a CBZ plate, Cobblers

They don't really care, loads of people are running round with NI PBZ plates etc, it's just not got to be absolutely obvious.

What's the reasoning behind it? Just want to be sure it's not due to conditions of the businesses insurance or something actually important like that.

You don't want to try to save a few quid and to have it come back and bite you in the proverbial rear if he gets fired or worse because of it.

If it's just some informal "public image" nonsense that's not actually in any employment contract or anything or some similarly stupid nonsense, then carry on by all means!
