^^^ And you've definitely checked the engine bay for the presence of cats, men, and WW2 handheld air-raid sirens?

Sometimes, with old cars, it's easy to overlook the obvious causes.

If you dont know me by now, you will never never never know me (no you wont).

Ive not even opened the bonnet.

Easy enough to check. Bit of a twat to change.

Part of the driveshaft innit? Just change the long driveshaft? Or am I being an absurd plumb?

Should be a piece of cake for anyone who isnt me.

Yes, you can just change the long shaft, but the shaft could easily be well over £100 exchange. S/H ones are available, but still pricy. The bearing is sub-a-tenner, and once you've got the shaft out, is 10 minutes to change. It's the removal and refitting of the shaft, which means dismantling the OSF suspension a bit which is the boring part.

Sound rationale.

I feel bad about this. I bought it the first time from Saabnut several months ago and all the time it's been owned by me, a mate at work, and me again the noise didn't get worse. It was a gentle thrum between about 35mph and 55mph and nothing either side. I didn't even notice it most of the time. I genuinely thought (or convinced myself) that it was just one of those things that would be there in the background, but not getting any worse, for many many thousand miles. Or until the car got cubed.

Also, correct me if I'm incorrect but I believe clayts450 was the first person to guess Picasso, so PM me your address and I'll lob your prize in the post.

Fun* fact, if those are Taylors plates like I think they are then this was sold at a local dealer which no longer sells Citroens, only Fords and Peugeots.

I hope it lives on. It really won me over.

When I bought it I thought I'd driven Picassos before but realised after I got in it that I hadn't. I was thinking of Berlingos. This thing was a whole different kettle of ball games. The mass of glass all around, firing light and views at you. The centre dash binacle thing, which left a lovely big low shelf right in front of you so you could watch the lettuce in your tuna salad sandwich wilt in the sun without taking your eyes off the road. Cruising along, high up in the seat, leant to the side resting on the armrest, much relaxment. It genuinely did seem to me like a Smart Price version of the Vel Satis The Moog loaned me for a bit. I'd love a top of the range 2.0 pez auto Picasso in the future.

Blimey, I won something - thanks Alex, PM incoming

That does sound a bit boring.

Oh, and if it's anything like any other BE/MA gearbox-d PSA tat, you have to drain the gearbox oil before removing the driveshaft, or it will automatically drain for you out of the driveshaft hole in the diff, usually all over your face.

Which goes beyond boring to utterly fucking tedious.

Still, if that's the only issue with the car, it may well be worth it.

Noise Update.

As well as previously described noises, there is now a definate metalic tinkling noise when you pull away gently.

Im half tempted to buy a £40 ebay drive shaft that definitely* fits to put this thing right*.

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F302731537444

However, Im even more tempted to dispose of it as Im off collectioneering again tomorrow and will be bringing home something I plan to keep a long while.

Is anyone in desperate need of a mostly great Picasso with bags of character and a few foibles*?

I left a hotel in Morocco in a hire car one morning (early Dacia Logan saloon I think, this was 2008), heard a strange whine, pulled over and opened the bonnet to find a live kitten... luckily I hadn't gone far so once lifted out he seemed perfectly content to head off on his way

Cheap if you want to let it live man. The scrap man offers £110 but like the old saying goes: its really too good to scrap.

How does £50 sound?

What you want* to do is buy a motor somewhere near Chester, and drive down in the Picasso to collect it. Almost as if some cheeky chiselling bastard is trying to scrounge free delivery on a £50 car.

In all seriousness, where is new car.

You could sort out a buyer in that location and have an easy drive there and back.

Cavcraft has Chester, I've got Birmingham :)

Sure others would be able to offer other locals.

Posted

New car is indeed in Burminggum. Ive paid £60 for a non refundable rail ticket and Ive already left the house on a collection mission so no chance of convenient delivery I'm affraid.
