I made a mistake about that Audi, its 46K not 54K. Sorry.Totally agree though, I recon it will go straight over the weighbridge and fragged when it gets taken away from the dealer. Its only really of interest to people like us, to everyone else its an old banger, albeit a shiny one with no holes in it.I was going to suggest rining scrappage cars but as thats BLATANTLY ILLEGAL, then having them on a Q plate by removing all identifying numbers seems to be a legal way of doing effectively the same thing. That said it the rules may have changed on Q plating cars. It atleast used to be that if a car was of "indeterminate age" I.E without VIN numbers or built from used parts it automatically got a Q plate.

I think with Q plate there is still a requirement to prove its origins, such as prove beyond doubt that it is not stolen, and if one cannot do that then DVLA wont reregister. If it is found to have been through the scrap scheme then they are likely to take a dim view. Not sure what the script is if you were to Scrapheap Challenge it tho - mod it so as it is unrecognisable from factory condition then SVA it...

Anyway the FHBVC has said in a stunningly complacent statement that there is no loss of 'heritage' as the majority of vehicles traded in under the scheme are 'mass market', (Comment in latest CS&C).

Strange isnt it, sounds like theyve been brainwashed into believing that the scheme will beneficially "thin out their numbers", get rid of some of the shittier condition classix and shore up general values of older vehicles, or maybe been bunged some of the schemes funding and advised not to make a fuss

Well it's easy to say every classic that goes will have the remainder appreciate, but that's not the way I want mine to appreciate, but squashing perfectly good examples.

Posted

Just seems to prove to me that the FHBVC has no interest in supporting the owners of older cars and are only interested in blue chip classics and not the common run of the mill stuff that people can actually afford.

C&SC is produced by a large pulishing house, so will produce other motoring magazines as well, so going against the grain could potentially lose advertising revenue in their other publications.

Pah! We'll keep ranting about it. To be fair, the Feds to have a slight point. It is undoubtedly true that most of the cars scrapped are mass-market non-classics. However, even if one classic got scrapped, that's one to many in my book.Latest one I've heard of is a 1957 Series 1 Landy. Gah!!

It's not CS&C's opinion, they have a little comment box that the FHBVCC bloke chips in in every month - sort of an update if you will. To CS&C's credit , they have a bit in their market section mentioning the Bond Equipe that was scrapped so their opinion is basically that the FBHVC is talking shit and was caught napping on this issue, which is 100% correct.

Ah, but that Bond Equipe has not been scrapped...I'm keeping quiet for now but there should be developments there.

TBH, I'm more upset about the Audi or any number of other decents 80's cars being scrapped than the Equipe. But then thats just my personal feeling.

Hey, ANYTHING getting out of this debacle alive is a reason to be cheerful.Lets hope some audi afficianado with money burn bails the 80 out, although why it can`t be a grand is anyone`s guess, they won`t get £2100 if they turn it in. Maybe they have no intention of selling it to anyone and this just some kind of joke.

So that would be why Andy Saunders auction shafting went un-mentioned.....

Spot on, they are a bunch of self serving twats and always have been................classics are only what "they" deem to be acceptable. I think we need a body that will speak up for all classic owners, how we define a classic is another matter though...............

Ahhh... Andy Saunds enter's his lifes work into Auction. Auction house takes the piss, motoring press forget to mention legal statement @ do not lose advertising revenue.... tsk tsk

Statement from Andy Saunders

regarding R M Auctions

1. RM Auctions sell cars under the signed contractually agreed reserves. The Lancia Stratos Zero replica sold for £16000, a massive £9000 under the reserve of £25000 and a colossal £24000 under RMs high estimate of the car. When Andy purchased the film prop body shell 5 years ago it owed him £12000 alone, plus then the build cost and materials and the 2500 hours labour, The absolute minimum Andy would have ever taken for this car was the £25000.

When Max Girardo first viewed the cars in the summer of 2008 he said "Andy the Lancia is the jewel in your crown! this is the centre piece of your collection, but what I want you to do is to spend some money on it and make if perfect, for it to make big money it has to be perfect " (The car had been originally finished in a huge hurry for its debut at 'Intersections' design exhibition and had since enjoyed a fast and furious show life which had made the car a little tired.)

Oct 08 saw a bill for £5300 spent on this car alone just so it was at its best for this auction , ( all work had been subcontracted out due to Andy's fathers health at that point in time) The Lancia was resprayed and the interior fully reworked and fully retrimmed and finished to perfection.

Max also requested all cars had to be entered NO RESERVE, Max said that every car in the auction would be NO RESERVE as that was company policy, which was a outright lie as 80 cars out of 99 entered for that sale were catalogued reserved. The request for no reserve did not sit well so an ABSOLUTE bottom line reserve of £25000 was agreed to be allowed by Max and signed by both Andy and Max for the Lancia. Minimal reserves were also agreed for on the X2000, the Bentley and the Cord 810.

Even during the day of the auction Max told Andy that there were 2 Italian phone bidders bidding for the lancia ?

At the auction when the lancia came for sale Andy was beckoned to the podium, the Lancia climbed so slowly it was ridiculous, the car stopped at £16000 Max turned to Andy and said ' Can we sell it?' Andy in disbelief replied 'WHAT? NO YOU CANT ' Max said something along the lines of ' Andy, this is an auction it has to sell.' Andy again replied ' No it can't sell for that, ill buy it back ! ' Max looked at Andy and said ' Too late Andy we will sort it out in commissions.' (which they never have ), he tapped the auctioneer on the arm and the auctioneer dropped the hammer.

The lancia was exported to the U.S.A. very soon after the auction whilst the other 7 cars sold to buyers in America were still in this country weeks later.

2. RM Auctions ignore absent bid applications. Andy received an email the next day from a perspective purchaser in Hawaii who could not be at the auction but desperately wanted the lancia, he had bid via absent bid application, and wanted to know why he was not the new owner of the car as his bid was considerably more than £16000, his bid was not recognised during the sale.

3. RM Auctions blatantly refuse bids made in the auction room even though they were bona fide bids of legal increments as set out in the catalogue. There was a man at the auction that wanted to own the X2000 so desperately that he had re mortgaged his house to buy it, Max was fully aware of this and had promised a VIP reception for him due to his efforts, obviously this never happened. Towards the end of the sale of the X2000 this man was actually refused his bid by Max and the auctioneer, but refused in the rudest and most derogatory manor imaginable.

4. RM Auctions hold back money raised completely for the purpose of charity. They held £3000 charity money without reason for 5 and a half months. The money was raised by Andy by roof chopping a car during the auction preview which was then sold with all proceeds going to charity, the charitys affected were charities for Cancer and Heart. On requesting the release of this money Andy's Solicitor was told that Andy still had custody of the car even though it had been exported to the States several months earlier.

5. RM Auctions withheld the funds from the sale of all 11 cars sold at 'Automobiles of london 2008' until court proceedings were issued. The contents of the email from Max just days before court proceedings were started were termed by Andy's solicitor as ' just outrageous'

6. RM Auctions fail to complete owner transfer documents resulting in DVLA fines after the event.

7. RM Auctions make promises that are not kept. Andy was promised a display to match that of Bernie Ecklestones in 2007, It was agreed by Max and discussed at length with both Max and Shelby, the entry fee would in its entirety go towards the display of his cars, Andy even had a meeting in London with a set designer to discuss and design the display, in reality there was no display for any of the 11 cars listed in the sale catalogue.

The week after the auction a meeting was called between Andy and Max to discuss the circumstances, Max was made fully aware of how Andy felt about the whole situation. The points about the Lancia, the absent bid, the X2000, the display were all heavily discused but no apology or explanation has ever been given by RM, they just went on to withhold payment of all 11 cars.

RM auctions work in association with Sotherbys in the up market area of New Bond Street. London.

All information above is documented fact.

Andy is happy to discuss any point made here in far more detail with anyone wanting to know more.

I'm less than 30 miles from the York yard, and have put the call out on the Mk2 Cav website for volunteers to strip it.

I went down to my local Ford stealer this evening as i was passing to see what was in the scrappage section.

All i found was two Mk 6 Escorts, A R reg Volvo V40, Vauxhall Combo Van and L reg Vauxhall Cavalier Colorado.

Mind you it looks like Motor Parts Direct are still doing o.k, They had 8 brand new signwritten Citreon Berlingo waiting to go to out.

I guess it was one for each area as they all had a different phone number on them.

I saw that when I went up to frag a car on Thursday. It's not that great TBH, but it's a cheap source of bits. I think it's an SRi 130, 2 litre 8v. Lovely old skool engine and box for a Nova.

At least its not a minter. Still a shame those cav SRi130's are fantastic cars, and all too rare now.

Parts bonanza for an early sherpa/marina 1800!

Why on earth would you scrap an MGB like that? Easy to sell for well over 2k surely if it's as good as it looks????

Posted

Probably because you've been conned into it and the salesperson didn't know the real worth, but knew how to manipulate.

This is at York and is probably rarer than the dhc Sherpa, a 1993 Seat Ibiza:

That looks great and not seen one for ages. I'd like to think there'd be very few on here who would prefer to see an MG like above saved than this..

That Ibiza looks lovely, I'm wanting an earlyish SEAT and that would push the right buttons for me. Much rather have that than the MG!
