He drove up here in an E30 with an M10 on four bike carbs and bought an M635CSi some years ago. Works out of Malcolm C Elder's place in Bicester? The Reverend Bluejeans 1

lesapandre Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 I do like a /8. There used to be a rum old Boy called John Billias, an eccentric Polish geezer in West London who did a lot of classic Merc stuff. He had a pale blue 1970 220 Coupe, fairly rotten even then but saveable. This era of Mercedes was epic, Pontons, Fintails up to and including W123. A 2.8 BMW would have a cable from the throttle to the pedal. The equivalent era Benz would have a very expensive and complex series of levers and balljoints. Very odd engineering but lovely to behold.I sold my old '59 220 to John Billias over 20 years ago. I'm assuming he is now retired.

TripleRich Posted March 30, 2018 Posted March 30, 2018 Considering the absolute non availability of outer sills. Needs a lot of work, but panels are still out there for these. http://alvadi.ee/en/carparts/mercedes-benz/w115-1968/sill/?tdType=389 Vince70, Skizzer, Junkman and 1 other 4
Junkman Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 See I never really liked the 124. I like 124s very much. Fiats that is. Mercedes had loooong forgotten how to make cars when they called their's a 124.I wonder whether they will ever try to match Fiat quality again. That would be unfortunate. It'd make a bag on Ebay Shirley? It would make more than that on eBay. A lot more. But would you like to deal with people who buy something like this off eBay?I don't. The thought alone makes my arse cauterise and my dillywong fall off in slices. Not possible : Sod that bollocks. I'm not in the league of those panel beating Michelangelos who do up MK1 Grannys and Range Rovers and other unappetizing chod like that. Quite, mine is “hors du combat” at the moment. But I’d buy another as a replacement tomorrow if I had to.There are certainly “better” cars. But it has a presence and gravitas, comfort and looks I can’t better in my price range. I like the looks of the bmw 635 CSIs but not the image or comfort. The w123 coupes went out of my price range a few years ago. I didn't know there is something that's out of your price range. 1.doug2.doug3.doug4.doug5.doug5.doug6.doug7.doug8.doug9.doug10.doug11.doug12.doug13.doug14.doug15.doug16.doug17.doug18.doug19.doug20.doug21.doug22.doug23.doug24.doug25.doug26.doug27.doug28.doug29.doug30.doug31.doug32.doug33.doug34.doug35.doug36.doug37.doug38.doug39.doug40.doug41.doug42.doug43.doug44.doug45.doug46.doug47.doug48.doug49.doug50.doug51.doug52.doug53.doug54.doug55.doug56.doug57.doug58.doug59.doug just in case. 25 quid a ticket? richardthestag and The Reverend Bluejeans 2

I think I’d like a big s class 450 sel 6.3 or the later 6.9 litre of money were no object. Then the worrying doubt if it would make it between petrol stations.
MorrisItalSLX Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 So this is the fucked Mercedes that has only been mentioned in hush tones since I joined Autoshite. Next thing you know Six-cylinder will be writing up a full fleet list! Junkman and eddyramrod 2

A classic car auction would make more sense, or just ringing a specialist Merc breaker. But not the bridge. That's £150 and it'll be gone. These will be worth a bastard fortune before long, particularly as Mercedes follows BMW and Audi into the abyss of a Big Brother watching customer base. 'Do you remember when........' Junkman 1

Junkman Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 So this is the fucked Mercedes that has only been mentioned in hush tones since I joined Autoshite.I plead guilty of having hidden it away for many a year and not given it the prominence it deserves. Junkman Posted March 31, 2018 Author Posted March 31, 2018 Right. It was tucked away in a friend's garden all this time.Although I consider it very restorable, it's probably a project too involved for me to stem at this point in life, especially when considering that the necessary repair panels, which were plentiful and cheap just four short years ago,are now made from unobtainium. Due to its rather bizarre former life, it didn't suffer rust damage in the usual places, they are all solid. It rusted in places they usually don't rust instead. What it needs body wise are the outer sills and jacking thingies (the inner sills are shiny black, like when they left the factory),the end caps of the sills, the outboard sections behind the trailing arm mounts, the spare wheel well and the correspondingboot floor section at the opposite side.Inner wings, floors, the dreaded chassis legs, etc. all appear to be solid. Not sure what it needs mechanics wise, it wasn't started after the back to front fuel pipes burst. However, it was running beforeand I actually drove it a bit. So I'm actually semi optimistic in this regard. I wanted to sell it as a project/donor car, but since I have it back, and especially after I saw Conrad's photo of me in the car,I might reconsider and thus contacted the GGG's chod sanatorium to see if there is the willingness to make a proper assessment. I'm long enough in the game to know that getting it anywhere near useable will leave little change out of 5k, if any.So there are now considerations to part finance this with the R16, should Tom not declare it dead on the spot. The Reverend Bluejeans Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 So there are now considerations to part finance this with the R16. Steady now. I do know a very good and inexpensive welder in Sheffield, however. Getting the car welded up, running and MOT'd (or MOT'able) is a good first step. Painting it will cost loads, and it does need painting. It is a W108 after all, not some hateful W126 shitbox. Junkman and Magnificent Rustbucket 2
