Festival of the Unexceptional on Saturday 14th July 2018

I only attended the FOD 'after FotU' informal event and thoroughly enjoyed the company and cars who dropped by or were based there for the main event.  It was nice to meet forum members, though I'll need a few more meetings before I can remember everyone.  My thanks to Mr and Mrs 6cyl and fellow Autoshiters for the venue and the friendly atmosphere.

You are most welcome and welcome back, anytime! :-)

Soon to depart for another slice of fun at the Field of Dreams. Good times! Anyone got a mobile phone mount I could borrow? The one in TWC has melted itself to the windscreen...

This looked absolutely brilliant.

Right. Next year I am bringing the Capri base.

Sounds earily familiar - my old 164 killed its battery and the boot lock was goosed, involved some writhing araound underneath with jump leads to get into it. Also had fucked clutch slave cylinder.

Slaves are easy to change on these (well they are on my thema). Its external to box

I can only doft my cap to Simcat of this parish who in the space of 2years has transformed his early Alpine from this... attachicon.gifpost-19509-0-27763500-1451256659.jpgattachicon.gifpost-19509-0-05397400-1491943233.jpg

An amazing achievement!!

The restoration on this is epic and it as a rare car. My number plate OCD wants symmetry on that number plate though. If that is an original plate from the late 70's then the YTS that drilled that needs tracking down so that he can complete his course. EquAl white space at either end of the plate pleeeease.

Noted. I've been trying to book it into Brodie's for ages now, but they never seem to have a slot available.

Don't leave it too long, autoboxes don't like been starved of oil, when it's slipping it will be burning the fluid and wearing the gear bands out

Now thats a proper car show.  Will do my best to get Granada ready for next year!

I think this is the original plate it came with. If I can recall the deal was to Mot the car so the original number be retained for the original owner. Very shortly the car will revert to an R plate. I fully agree the current spacing is very odd!

Anyone have a chat with big Edd China?

Yes. Although it was more like a few words, as the other judges wanted to ask questions as well.

I hadn't even twigged it was the same Alpine until it was pointed out above.  That's nothing short of remarkable.

I'd love to see your Regal! Would that be a MK6?   I'm restoring a 1969 3/30 at the moment.

It was good to meet you and admire your superb Anglia van.  While we were chatting about your Regal 3-30 you mentioned you had fitted an electric fuel pump.  I've got one to fit (3psi, positive earth compatible) - any tips?  Did you replace the entire fuel pipe from the tank with R9 rubber tube?  Mine still has the thin walled translucent plastic pipe which is sound and sturdy but a weird size, making it difficult to match up with currently available fuel pipe or universal filters.  I may re-pipe mine with R9 rubber or possibly metal pipe.  I want to fit my pump near the tank, away from the hot engine bay.  Did you remove and blank off the mechanical pump or simply use the electric pump as a low pressure boost to the existing pump?

Comments and advice will be gratefully received.  Would love to see the 3-30 one day.

Had a brilliant day at the FOTU '18. Seeing the cars of my youth was an incredible experience. This show is one that should be held elsewhere more often, it seems that the 'everyday heros' type of vehicles are in higher regard than more expensive (and in many cases) more common exotics.

The day was made for me by my Cavalier winning the Junior Choice Award trophy.

Of all the cars I was taken by, it was this one:

Finally home! 380 miles in three days in a bleedin' Invacar. Drive belt was really not very happy by the time I'd made it to the show, and getting back home was hard going - it just won't go up hills! For the final hill, I had to call Mrs Wobbler out with the Nippa, so I could transfer some weight to it. She reported a strong smell of burning rubber as she followed me...

But that's ok. I have no reason to drive the Invacar for a bit. Which is nice. I'm shattered!

I did stop off at a pub for a break on the way back. Guess what I found!

The after show party!

In my world what could be better than our field full of cars and great people to share our interest with.

That was a totally epic weekend in great company with an incredible range of vehicles to be seen. I still can't quite take it all in. I wonder how many past and present shiters were at FOTU in all.

The breakfast club convoy (minus Puddlethumper's Pug that was parked a bit further along)

Hoorah! :-)

It was great to see TWC 'in the plastic' and thanks a million for letting me have a drive. What a spirited little thing she is! Even better, she's a THUNDERSLEY Invacar! :-) :-)

Well done dollywobbler :)

Really wish I'd made the effort to travel up to the FoD again :(

ETA: Will there be another FoD day this year?

I'm sure there will. I think Six-cylinder has a few forward dates pencilled in his diary...

Jesus wept! My knees are the same colour as my t-shirt sleeves! The backs of my legs were just as bad.
