This is only an hour and fifteen minutes up the road from me.

 

I've never been to a car auction.

 

I must make the next one. MUST.

I didn't forget, but the car was in the garage and because they're oldschool and only open Saturday morning, it needed collecting between 11:50 when they phoned us and 11:59 when they lock up and go home.

 

Looks like it was a goodun. Bugger.

It was a pretty miserable auction even by Cannock standards, pretty bereft of half decent choddage.

 

Highlight was a seller losing his shit and standing on his soapbox ranting to anyone who listened (no-one) because his crappy Seicento only sold for £110 and therefore the auctioneer is a crook. Twat. Loudest cheer of the day was as he exited stage left slamming a door behind him.

 

We didn't even get the giffer auctioneer, we got the Tuesday bloke, who at least doesn't take bids from ghosts, ghoulies and walls. 

 

The Autoshite winner for the day was the Daihatsu YRZ Turbo 130 CVT which went for £500 - there were some of us sitting on our hands just in case - I think Ian got some video evidence of it.

I split after the auction but a load went off to Telford, so I'm sure there'll be a full report in due course.

Aye, was a cracking day. It must have been possible to do well at the game today, because a lot of stuff sold for sod all. Naturally, I still managed to pick a BMW 5-Series that sold for £1770. Oops.

 

I woke up to find that Elly had been well guarded by the SVM.

 

Misery. First car through, and it made £110. We think this is the car the seller of which was upset. It was shite! I thought £110 was pretty fair.

 

There was a Corsa with JOYROAD tyres.

 

Then we went to Blists Hill Museum, where we decided to ignore the £3 pay and display charge (machines nowhere near the overflow parking), and were glad we did as it was £20 to get into the place! 

 

So we went and played with choo choos on the Severn Valley Railway instead. Here's Mr Fowler chatting rail.

Yep, slim pickings at the auction, but there was indeed a yellow turbo nutter bastard YRV.

 

There was also:

a 307CC worse than the one Billy was lumbered with (broken roof and a dent/filler on every panel),

a C4 Picasso Exclusive with seemingly failed hydropneumatic suspension and rear end damage, that somehow made £700

an MX5 with fairly severe rear quarter damage, failed to sell as it had a £500 reserve

an actually quite nice Skoda Superb 2.5 diesel auto, in blue with beige leather - alas it didn't sell as someone had put an optimistic reserve on (£1k?) and the auctioneer couldn't get any interest opening at £500. This was directly after a 2003 A6 1.9TDI Avant went through, leather and auto but with fucked shocks, blacked out windows and rear lights. 

That had a £1000 reserve too, these two no-sales caused the auctioneer to make an unimpressed comment about how overvalued the cars were.

 

Indeed after the auction closed the plan seemed to be to go to Blists Hill, but on arrival £3 parking payable only in 50p and £1 coins, and the fact entry was going on £20 a head made us think twice. We contemplated RAF Cosford and eventually ended up at the Severn Valley Railway at Bridgnorth, followed by food at a pub in Telford.

 

If the SVM are wondering where I disappeared to on the way back to places north of the Midlands, I had to stop and tighten some wheelnuts  I had to go out and I'd left my dad to put the wheels back on after I changed the springs, and clearly he didn't bother to torque them properly

I'm not long in and enjoying the steak pie WOMAN_RML very kindly left for me, having driven 650 miles in the last 21 hours.

Anyway, here are some rubbish pictures;

 

 

I parked next to this tidy V70 thinking it was one of us but it turned out to be a random bloke.

 

 

Blists hill where we discovered it was twenty bastard quid to gain entry PLUS your pay and dismay parking fee. Payment machines being sited as far away from the overflow car park as possible without putting them on Malta or Jupiter or something.

 

 

So we went to Bridgnorth and the Severn Valley Railway which had a lovely rake of LNER teak coaches behind a GWR 'Manor' Class loco. We also spotted something lurking behind...

 

 

Class 33!

 

 

Having watched the Manor leave and the baby Sulzer run round we wandered into town, hoping to return in time for departure but we missed all but the noise due to stopping for some icecream. The SVR looks worth doing though so no doubt the Association of Associated Massivs will return. Having done that it was decided to go to Telford for sustenance. Unfortunately all the electricity had fallen out of the 850 so SVM Assist (The 42nd Emergency Service) was called upon to provide a jump. No picture though so you'll have to imagine it.

 

 

So that's it really. Many thanks to the folk who herded cats as always, it was certainly a day.

My brain was in no position to do thinkage last night so we have got an early morning posting of auction prices and the auction game results.

 

New Auctioneer Dude is far more likely than old auctioneer giffer to hammer down with a loud NO SALE, when the price is still hundreds away from the reserve.

 

Did nobody else notice that Dollywobbler got recognised at the auction? His fame is spreading, slowly but unstoppably and without remorse. One day the beardy one will be selling out stadiums as he leaps 13 (corgi) buses in his Invcar.

A big field turned up for this international event.

 

The categories were:

1. Must have a proper colour, no white, grey, black, silver, etc. - Best option selected Lot 25 Fiat Siecento £110

2. Must be an autobox - Best option selected Lot 47 Kia Cerato £340

3. 4x4, van or pickup - Best option selected Lot 45 Jeep Cherokee £475, nobody realised that the Vauxhall Astra Envoy was in the auction due to late stickerage

4. Manufacturer badge of non-European origin - Best option selected Lot 47 Kia Cerato £340 again

5. Estate or MPV - Best option selected Lot 503 Vauxhall Zafira £240 with a whole 2 days of MOT left

6. Pot Luck, anything goes - Best option selected Lot 30 Vauxhall Corsa £150 

7. Must be over 2 litre engine - Best option selected Lot 44 Nissan X-trail £500

A rule to be noted is that if your choice in the category doesn't sell then you get the best choice plus £200 

 

One vehicle actually covered all 7 categories, possibly the first time this has ever happened:

We had 13 sheets so the results are going to be in a compressed form as I'm a lazy git.

Also this was the closest pack of final results I have ever seen.

11 Chaseracer - Lots 31 / 47 / 45 / 40 / 35 / 39 / 111 - Total £3200 - Winner of the 2CV owners club members category

10 Ghosty - Lots 105 / 47 / 45 / 49 / 39 / 119 / 92 - Total £3165 - Ghosties love of the knackered suspension on the C4 Picasso, took him out of the leading pack

9 Wife and Child CMS - Lots 47 / 40 / 45 / 51 / 60 / 32 / 49 - Total £3120 - Showing to all that this is a family friendly participation sport*

8 CMS206 - Lots 40 / 47 / 45 / 49 / 57 / 30 / 72 - Total £3065 - Just scrapes a win in the inter family battle, but the quality of hand writing in comparison to Mrs CMS, oh dear.

1 AnthonyG - Lots 25 / 47 / 45 / 40 / 57 / 30 / 111 - Total £2635 - Gold to man in the Jag. Anthony's selections were as smooth as his ride. I was tempted to add a penalty for being the only person not to write their name on the score sheet though.

Right so here's my couple of photos from the event. Not much more to say from what other had to say but it was certainly a glorious day for the weather with all of Scotland getting scorched. Yay! We also got treated to a spectacular light show on the way home with some belting thunder storms over the Lake District with associated lightning.

 

I was quite looking forward to Blists Hill Museums (yes, plural) but when we arrived, were directed to the overflow car park to be greeted with signs saying "Pay and Display Machines in Main Car Park", £3 to park and then £19.75 per person it was a big collective FUCK THAT from all of us. Hence why we ended up in Bridgnorth.

Yay! My first win. I was pretty impressed by finding a grim Y reg Corsa as my pot luck choice.

 

I was also impressed by the comparative sanity of this auctioneer - he actually seemed to know what he was doing, a bit of of a surprise for Cannock.

Best bit was at the end when he refused a bid from a teenager for a manky 206 - he obviously knows a timewaster when he sees one.
