Oh aye, i didnt realise there were rules about that sort of thing!

Are my comments really that bad then? I thought they helped explain a bit about where i saw them and thought of them. I won't bother in future.

'Motion passed, captions to continue'

'All captions are reclaimable at £150/caption under current commons expenses rules'

I like the captions, mainly because I'm a bit thick and don't always know what the cars are, especially OJCs. Or old Vauxhalls. Or old Fords.Basically, I'm alright with Volkswagens, yeah? So just don't caption those otherwise I waste eyeball motion reading.

Posted

I like the captions as well ! It's nice to get a bit more info and put the picture in context and what have you. However, the MG V8 thingy - whats with the green Princess in the background? Coincidence, does the landlord run some sort of British motor industry themed pub or is it some sort of car meet?

Posted

I like putting captions, although sometimes I struggle to think of decent 'back stories', considering alot of the cars I see are in one of four carparks....That pub landlord needs to be on here.

Posted

Dont worry trig-people do wonder when the see a camera.People have asked if I am council or health and safety at a couple of places I have been to take pictures  They relax and talk to you when they realise your not

Cheers guys!, I'm not very good at thinking of witty captions sadly but i feel they help explain the picture better.

If you go back a few pages Lobz you'll see more photos of the Princess and Talbot-Manta Rancho he also has on the pub forecourt, I don't know the story behind them all, I think the pub landlord is just some kind of autoshite god.I often see him driving around in his SD1 V8 like all good pub landlords should.

Why don't you go in and have a pint & find out?Ideal RVP for a shite-mini-meet, you might even get stale sandwiches & out-of-date crisps if you are lucky.

Posted

I should go in really, I'm alway put off as it's not the nicests of areas and the pub always looks empty and lifeless, Still, If they sell beer then it can't be that bad!:D

Sorry lads, I was a bit pissed up and in a foul mood when I posted that no captions comment, I actually used them myself in my own lesser 'spotted' thread so I really don't know where it came from.Keep the spots coming Trigger.

This 1955 Minor was his weekend toy and used 'for best'.

Well after a surprise PM from hawkeyed Angrydicky, He's found someone that's been looking for this Minor since 1959 as it belonged to their grandfather! .

I've fired off a email to the website owner after the email address of the chap trying to find it, It's quite exciting!

He says it was a while ago he received the information, so it might take him a while to find the email address, still, should be interesting!:)

I got a reply from the guy looking for it the other day Dicky, this was his email.

Hi,

Thanks for the info and photo. I'm pleased to see that the Minor is still in existance and on the road.

My grandfather bought the car new in 1955, is last car he had after having a string of Morris's, Morris 8, Morris 10 and Morris Oxford MO. My Dad had driving lessons in HVG 59 and told me he much preferred it's clutch to the one on the driving schools Ford 100E.

Before my Mum and Dad were married my Dad was living in Luton whilst his parents and my Mum lived in Norwich. The car used to make a 200 mile round trip so my Mum and Dad could meet at weekends.

As far as I know a replacement speedometer and damper were fitted during my Grandfather's ownership. The car was sold to a garage in 1959 for £400 to help finance a house.

Thanks again for your help with this. I have passed the photo onto my father who I know will be pleased to see it. If I can find out any more info I will let you know.

Thanks again,

Nice story hey!, I've spoke to the current owner who said he might get in contact with him but he's worried the chap might want the car back and he doesn't want to sell it.

Right, I've got a bit of a big update here so get the kettle on and take a pew.

This still has it's local Ford dealer number plates, I don't think it's been on the road for a while though.

Quite an embarrassing story to this one, I saw this for sale so after turning around and driving back i get out the car.

In front of me was a lady and a old couple and as i start to wonder over i feel a draught down below...

Only my bloody flys were undone and the button on my boxer shorts also undone!, I could of died! Yes my pink bits were showing! , And it still never helped to get me any discount of the £7500 asking price!

This has been untaxed since 1996.

Late Mk 1 Sierra has been of the road since 2003.

Was that Volkwagen 'Wedge' thing left hand drive? Kind of looks it in the pics, could explain the plate.

Good spots as always..

Jeeeeez - my heart nearly stopped looking at the MkI Cortina. I had a 1200 2 door and the reg was FFW 370D.

Just a few hundred away eh......

AutoShite question: Wassat under the Tigger? Standard Ensign? :?

As you were.

SOUP-PERB spottage Trig! Can't choose a favourite, but the Cambridge estate is particularly 'epic ftw'

I'm having trouble with the wreck on the hiab too, gut instinct says Rover P5, am I even close?

Posted

I think it was a Rover P5, there was a P5 in the driveway the other week in banger spec the same colouring as that so i'm guessing It's the same car.

2001 Maestro!.

Top spot Trig :) That is a rare-as-rocking-horse-droppings Apple Maestro (screwed together by a garage in Bury St Edmunds from Bulgarian CKD kits re-imported after the attempt to build them there failed) and should also have lhd wipers for bonus shite points.

[confession mode] I'm not as smart as I look :( I thought it was a Ledbury Maestro (there are still a few running around in Herefordshire) but that info turned up while I was checking, as it didn't have a Herefrord reg [/ confession mode]

That story about the Minor is really pleasing; I felt the same when I spotted my grandad's old Daimler. If ever there was a case for cars not being plate-raped then this is it.

Posted

Yes it was a nice story Mash, it was quite a shock when dicky messaged me about it and even more so to get a message back from the 1st owners son!

Alf your right about that being an Apple made one as it had Apple and some numbers (2001 i think) on a sticker on the back window, the two old boys in it pulled into the local holiday caravan park.
