Obviously loads of people are driving round without them and getting MOTs somewhere.

I think an eagle eyed tester might spot clag/soot in/around the tailpipe and fail it as it's obvious it doesn't have a DPF.

Or they might not.

What actual dpf pressure reading is it giving you? If the code is saying it's completely blocked the ECU thinks it's got high pressure across the dpf which may or may not be the case.

It could be the sensor or hoses. It could be a lump of crumbled hose in the sensor.

If you have or can get a vac tester might be an idea to apply some pressure/vaccuum to either side of the sensor whilst reading live data to see if the values are sensible.

Is this for me? I'll find out later anyway and post the log for the dpf pressure.

I can see new dpf cost about £130, are these naff off-brand shite or are they decent pattern replacement?

Seems like removing it can cost a fair bit.

I think it applies to both you and Sierraman as hes having a similar sounding issue

You cut them open at the top, unless you had a mirror you’d be pressed to tell.

When I get time I’ll fit the sensor and report back on Forscan.

Sensor fitted, codes cleared, DPF pressure differential reset. Ran it up and checked the oscilloscope and it showed some actual figures this time so we’ll see.

Getting sick of this now. It’s going into limp cock mode when it’s revved hard then ‘Engine Malfunction’ flashing up. Scanned it P2454 comes up relating to the pressure sensor in the DPF. I can’t waste much more time on this, giving thought to giving it a one way ticket.

Are the pipes to the sensor ok?

New pipes and new sensor. Learned values reset on the sensor.

Are you sure the new sensor is not duff? Unlikely but possible

Seemed to work when plugged in other day it was showing a reading. The symptoms now are different, limp home, ‘Engine Malfunction’ no EML. Wondering if the DPF has been gutted or partially blocked.

Possibly but it was showing a reading on Forscan as I revved the engine. I’ve had another look, the plug does feel a bit slack on the sensor, connected but just not as tight as it was on the old one. Supposedly the code relates to low circuit on the sensor so possibly the wiring to the sensor or the connector itself is showing a problem. Either way I’m no closer to sorting this.

No sadly! Im running out of time to faff about in all honesty due to work commitments, I’ve got a place looking at it next week. But I’m conscious about them taking me down Parts Darts alley, if it turned out to be the DPF failed then I’m not happy to chuck money at it. I’m now doing 7 miles a day due to work so short of getting rid of it and buying a petrol Focus then I’m lumbered with it, not ideal mileage for a diesel but likewise I didn’t have a crystal ball before COVID that I’d be in this situation.

Swapped sensor back for old one and no limp cock mode. I cleaned it before I chucked it back in but I think I’ll just bite the bullet and get the £180 Ford one, surprise surprise these £17 ones are fucking shit.

At least she is now running right.

I've often been told that Fords don't like non OE sensors.

Mind you I've been told the same about nearly every make of car over the years.

I think it’s still showing the P2002 but at least we’re back to square one, going to check Soot Load next week and find a way of checking the output from the sensor, I’m still convinced it needs a new sensor but it’ll be Delphi or Genuine Ford this time.

Spotted a slight leak from the intercooler, looks like it wasn’t fully home so took all that out and reseated it.

I've never heard of those sensors giving trouble before.

When my DPF pipes fried themselves, I just replaced them with Halfords fuel line.

I check them every oil change and they seem to be holding up well.

Occasionally they do from what I’ve read, most of the time it’s the pipes but again it’s a sensor reading from a set of pipes coming of a diesel exhaust so it stands to reason they’ve a finite lifespan.

Just like VAG cars hate non-OE MAF sensors. It's basically mandatory to get either a genuine or a OE Bosch sensor

Mondeo ones don't need cutting open.

Could just knock it straight through. Hopefully I’ll not have cause to go down that road...

My mini Mondeo has started giving me a bit of grief after 2 trouble free years.. first a bust CV boot.. sorted but you have to do them from the other end, and now its telling me it needs an oil change. it doesn't, but wont reset.. Code P068a, won't go away, and now engine malfunction and no matter what its 12 degrees outside.. All pointing to a low voltage issue somewhere. ruled out the battery and the earths under the airbox. cleaned up all the battery terminals and maxi fuses. Changed the ECM relay. .

Still starting and driving same as it ever did, but this is really bothering me.

Shit like that annoys me, much prefer an obvious fault. Services of a good auto electrician are money well spent sometimes but it’s often a case of finding someone with the right kit and knowledge, not some bloke in a shed that is used to fitting spotlights to an Ital.

Spent a bit more time on it today, and did sum lernin about P068a..

Put the O silly scope on Forscan and watched the voltages. Its dropping to 9.5v at the ECU on startup 😯 10.2v at the battery.. that would explain a lot! I can't believe how well it starts and have never had any "normal" low battery symptoms..  new one on it's way from Tanya. Need to code it in with Forscan. It tells me battery life is 69%..

P. S .. The battery is the original... from 2013..

Brand new battery fitted today, and.....

Still exactly the same .

Probably telling you to suck eggs here but have you told the car it’s had a new battery on Forscan?

yup, battery monitor reset. I'm going to delve into the PCM later..
