Had an odd one today with a 2.0 tdci Galaxy powershift. Lost drive and shut off. No starter, and wouldn't come out of park.. stuck Forscan on it and there were loads of codes for the instrument cluster. All cleared except one- lost comms between ICM and TCM.  Couldn't spend too much time on it, but I didn't think an instrument cluster would shut down the transmission, then the car? Dropped at a garage I know, so will chase up to see what they found.

I don’t know much about the galaxy but maybe it runs the immobiliser through the cluster like the Focus, the Mondeo doesn’t.

Did an oil and filter change change on mine.

Got a long haul tomorrow,2 1/2 hour drive to the port, catching the early ferry from Dublin ,then driving from Holyhead to North Norfolk.

Hopefully the old girl will stay going, and not leave me stuck on the hard shoulder somewhere! 😕

Always get very nervous before a long drive, not looking forward to it at all.

I bought this car 10 years ago this month!

They’re a very good car, much much better reliabilitywise over the Mk3, so much so I wouldn’t bother with a Mk3 unless it was giveaway money.

I have noticed quite a few of the 1.6 diesels dropping down to reasonable money, I don’t hear of many problems at all with these.

Really?  I'd've thought that the notoriously reliable* 1.6 HDI straining its little guts out to haul around the vast bulk of a Mk4 Mondeo would be a recipe for disaster.

Thats lovely - my wife would love to keep her Mondy its been a great car and very reliable and about as economical as you can get! But she needs an Auto... I think she'd quite like the same car again in Automatic if I can find one (Mobility car coming soon)

That’s the previous DV6. The one fitted to the Mk4 is the same as the Mk3 Focus, completely revised unit. Has a fairly good reputation.

The old 1.6 was a good motor anyway as long as people did some actual maintenance.

‘Yeah it’s had the oil changed by the book 4 times in the last 10 years and 100,000...’ 😂

Mk4 cluster question. Dead cluster. To rule out any other issues and while I summon up the courage to send 150 quid and my cluster to someone to fix it, I will be chucking a 2nd hand unit in.

Q. Will a diesel manual cluster work for my powershite? I.e. is the lcd display dependent on auto v manual or will it work regardless of gearbox type?

I don’t think the used cluster will work unless it’s been programmed in. You could try. What does Forscan say?

That's a new sump, new boost pipe and two rear tyres.

Just need to find some diesel now...

Its not been scanned yet. But cluster is dead and everything else works, so I'm betting its the cluster.

Been told they are plug and play. Just need to know if a cluster from a manual will work for an auto.

They aren’t. It’ll start but it won’t work as far as I know.

I am an electronics god.

Replacement instrument cluster due tomorrow, so went out to remove the old one.

As I was pulling it out, it came back to life.

So I put it back in and went for a drive. So far so good :)

So my electronic genius lasted 3 hrs. Went out to car and cluster is dead again.

Weird.

Will bung replacement in tomorrow and see if that does the same thing, in which case its some kind of power supply issue or works, in which case existing cluster is knackered.

Apart from the front n/s wheel being loose, held on by ONE fucking bolt after its time at the garage, the car is behaving itself.

Yes there's half a litre fuel in the oil after passing around on back roads but the regen happened successfully during Wifey's commute recently.

Though, if it dumps enough fuel in the sump to trigger oil dilution DTCs every time it fails to regen then the fuel savings of running the diesel are going to be far outweighed by the oil costs if I have to change the oil every time it tries and fails to regen.

Changed the instrument cluster.

Can confirm its plug and play, except for mileage.

Just added 30k to the car!

Weirdly my radio that has been refusing to retain time and date now does so. I'm surprised that runs off the instrument cluster.

Time will tell how long this lasts.

Original cluster sprang into life when removing it (again). So either it does have a bad solder or its a loom issue.

Should be able to rule out loom issue, if the temporary replacement cluster still works after a few days use.

Plus radio now switches off with ignition :)
