What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Given up smoking. Today was day 1. Have just about got through the day without killing anybody. Werther's Originals & Murray Mints have got me through.

I'm on day 4 now. I keep getting dizzy from getting too much air! No sweat, anyway, it only takes 3 days for the nicotene to get out of your system, and then any residual hankering is entirely in your head. Hooray. :)

Day 6 here, day 3 for SWMBO, who was away at a conference in Manchester when someone posted up an e-book on here, which I proceeded to stay up half the night to read.

I only read it for a laugh, and just haven't smoked since. Thanks for that!

Last time I gave up (three years ago) I got to day 2/3 and tried to punch someone twice my size, who grabbed me by the neck and dragged me out the front, stopping by the salesman's office for a box of lamberts..

That may well have been me, if it was Allen Carr's Easyway thingmy. It really is a very good thing.

It does get easier: day 3467. :D

Work have had a brand new 11 reg Transit connect. The front number plate is screwed on at an angle normally reserved for door stops and cheese wedge measuring tools.

Day seven and all is well. I still quite want a ciggie though.

I'm finding it perversely pleasant. I'm quite enjoying thinking about what I'm goping to have for tea all day, & then spending ages cooking nice food, whilst eating sweets/biscuits/fruit all day.

Also been trying to cycle 10-20 miles most days, so hopefully wopn't be coughing up lung butter after a couple of weeks.

Today, I got to drive a D-reg Rover Sterling. Now I know this isnt particularly interesting to most people but it was for me, very grin worthy. My mate bought the car but left it in Birmingham overnight and needed to get it back home, hence I was chosen to drive it as he brought his own car up.

The car was almost immaculate  a real stunner, it looked like it had been galavanised and garaged all its life and it drove fantastically, there were a few minor touches that differed from my now sadly departed 825 Sterling like the headrests which have a pads on them.

What a fantastic car, about the only thing thats made me smile on this rather hot and muggy day.

let's see it then

It looks nice and in decent condition, but I'd have to remove the stickers (as I'm not 12).

Are these worth near 1,000 though, maybe a few hundred off?

Stickers look crap, but I really like the wood effect Fablon :)

It's a turdy old petrol estate car and not a very good one at that. I'd be amazed if it was worth more than about £400 on a good day and that's without all that crap stuck to it.

Yup. Brought a delightful stomach bug back with her as well, which is why I'm on here and fitting a hazard switch to the MX5, not at work where I'd be feeling a little less productive.

Oh yes, Grin thread: Modest Mouse. That is all.

Indeed, but their last album with Johnny Marr was SHITE.

They're VERY hit and miss imo.

ION, it's my day off tomorrow (72 hour week - urgh) and it supposed to be dry and sunny so I shall be dusting my bike off and going out for a ride, making the most of my non-smoking lung capacity awesomeness.

Completely unrelated to anything on else on here, I am having a spectacular afternoon.

First, My mentor/enterprise/university contact tells me she's found a manufacturer for my project.

Second, I find that they've paid a sizeable chunk of money into my business account.

& Third, A phone call to ask if I'd like to contribute two off the wall recipes to the new volume of "Cool Camping".

It might only be 3 O'clock, but I shall have a large glass of Pinot Grigio.

As per above post:

"A man from Chesterfield was ordered to remove a naughty number plate by the DVLA, even though he bought it from their website.

Alan Clarke, 49, paid £399 for the plate 'BO11 LUX' and fitted it to his new Range Rover."

I have a terrifying interview for a decent job with a decent company for good money in London tomorrow. I have to be absolutely A1 through the whole thing or I'll piss it right up.

Couple of things:

1) Seeing an S-reg Viva GLS for the second time this week. It’s tatty in a 1986 council estate way, looks like an abandoned resto that’s been got back on the road, or just something he’s repairing and using. Suspect it might be the same chap I’ve seen driving an F-Type Victor on Rostyles.

2) My new Camry estate. Sorry to go on about it, but it’s bloomin’ marvellous. Such a nice drive, big inside, decent on fuel (first tankful 31mpg, without trying), runs great. It looks smart enough to cut it in the car park of the local salerooms which I sometimes frequent, mixing it with the Volvo estates. Despite my wariness in buying a car of this low value from a dealer, even that turned out to be a pleasant experience. Going to treat it to a year’s tax today, I think it’s a car that’s going to be with me for a long while.
