Alfisti's brochures arriving today so I can browse the Nova and 1980 Ford range. Passenger side mirrors sure were rare back then, optional extra on almost everything

When you get asked to work on a car for its m.o.t as a favour for a friends family member and it turns out to be a really good condition retro shite motor, i had this today with a completely standard poverty spec mk2 nova the only patch of welding thats been done on it (other than the one i did today on the front inner arch) is small one on the rear of a sill, even though im a ford man this little vauxhall warmed my heart and made me grin from ear to ear

Reading that they got there so quickly :) Sorting out a box of old magazines and finding vol 1 nos 1, 2 and 4 of 'The Automobile' I may be gone some time

Sir slidealot rides a noble charger called capri, capri is a white stallion who was born in 1986 and never leaves my side

Yep, Capri should be good fun on the roundabouts.... :D

I bought a couple of 2ft tyre levers off ebay for a tenner the other day, and gave them a whirl last night. Now I can swap car tyres myself!!! Its a bit labour-intensive I must admit. However after a bit of practice I could get one off and back on again in less than 10 mins using a couple of hammers, tyre levers and soapy water!

I shall be employing this technique at the weekend to fit some swish new boots to this Avenger before A-ing it home.

Have you got a 'TL' bar Mr B? Invaluable for breaking beads. They're about eight inches long and sort of 'L' shaped. Very handy bit of kit though trying to break the beads on alloys is a right nightmare so I take them to the local tyre shop.

Can these be used on any type of wheel (alloy/steel). I have four totally perished tyres that I daren't even look at, never mind drive on, and would rather change them myself, purely because it's cheaper.

It's a while since I've done it but I used to break beads by laying the tyre on the ground and driving over it.

.........or a piece of 2" angle iron about 6" long, and a sledgehammer, gotta be carefull though

If my internetz ever stops being completely bolloxed 'll do a 'how to' thread on it.

Just been watching The Long Good Friday. Total shite paridise! I now feel the urge to abduct Helen Mirren in a Volvo 245.

Thanks for the heads up Trig.......as I don't even bother to look at ClassicCarMart in the supermarket anymore. I used to buy it religiously about 6/7 years ago as I thought it the best mag for cars for sale .....but the internet does that now.

They seem to do endless articles on stuff that has been done to death already....Mini, MGB, Minor, Stag. And that cover with MGF vs. MX-5 would definately NOT have tempted me to open it .......and I'd have missed your bit!!

Posted

I know what you mean Tony, a MGF on the cover isn't exactly the kind of thing that would get my interest!.

In today's news, I've just sold the Micra for what i was after for it!, One of the most painless sales I've had as well :D

Next door's cat, which occasionally comes in the kitchen, followed me in then ran ahead up 4 flights of steps to wait by my door. Never been in there before but jumped straight onto the bed wanting a big cuddle. Oddly, (s)he has 6 toes on one paw and 5 on the rest

Being massively immature does have its upsides. You're easily amused at least.
