Just booked a ferry to France for next weekend. I am hoping it will be an uneventful collection thread, do you still have to book them ??? Although I am going nowhere near Paris and the subject is considerably older than a Renault 20 so hopefully no threat from isis.

No, you don't have to book but it is CONSIDERABLY cheaper to book in advance rather than just turn up & buy a ticket.

Even if you don't book it's cheaper to turn up & book a crossing on the phone/internet than walk into the office.

Good timing - tanker drivers have been on strike this weekend....roadblocks, go-slows and empty pez stations.

Seems to be all over for now, though.

I think the OP was referring to booking a collection thread.... as the opening line reads 'Booked a ferry'.

Don't think I'm going to bother buying a car in France anymore, CBA with the effort.

I'm grinning as I am picking up a nice (hopefully) daily on Sunday. The AX Forte will be delivered to its new owner on the Saturday. I think I'll miss it as it's a bit of a hooligan.

Day off from work tomorrow. Off to play with tiny trams in Seaton instead! Even better, they've started on the redevelopment of the terminus at Seaton so now you are 'forced' to have a depot tour before riding the line.

Last time I was inside the depot there, it was 29 years ago!

GF's birthday the 'morrow........ London trip now all sorted courtesy of Rian-Bastards and their money back etc... Turns out the surprise destination I had planned is actually on her list of places to avoid! Bullet dodged!

On another plus note - UK - so shopping as and when I want - and I've already tagged a couple of places to grab Rover V8 bits so 'should' manage to pick up parts en route.

Where in the world is that taken? That's the spot of the one I owned last year, but in New Zealand.

Brussels Belgium fella - I found it out in the sticks that is the Belgian millionaires playground that is Knocke........ I don't think it's gone that far around the planet according to the ODO :-)

I know It was a collection thread I was booking. Remember that bloke who came on here a couple of years ago and started a thread about collecting a Renault 20 from Paris, but after a few dozen pages he bottled it and got banned in the end. I was trying to be funny but seems it was just me remembered it. Anyway I will be leaving Somerset on Friday the 6th with an empty trailer to go via Poole / Cherbourg ending up near Mayenne. Then home via St Malo on the Sunday morning if anyone wants anything transported. I am trying to find some bikes to bring back as well so will have an empty 806, but hopefully a loaded trailer.

Ponders........"How much would it cost to have the crying pumpkin on that trailer?" - then hits himself in the head and gets back to work!

Yep, I knew where you were going with your mention of that Renault 20 loon... but don't remember anything about him discussing pre-booking the ferry, though :-)

Van mot due next week, meaning they will have to fix the drivers door handle for the third year running, costing eighty quid. It will last two days and we shall then replace it with the piece of nylon that lasts another 363 days. Might need steering rack and rear caliper. 500 notes and a three month wait for a genuine one. Still been a great van overall though.

Halfords contacted about the weld through primer recall and I had a little bit left in one of the affected cans.

I was out so left it in a safe place and returned home to find these on the doorstep.

Thank you very much, now to plan some welding to use these up.

If only someone had a near terminal welding project "crying" out for attention :D

Unfortunatly a Range Rover is too heavy for the trailer and my poor old 806. Something nice and light isn't a problem though.

That's ok, it's only half a RR. The rest has already fallen off!

Just put the 806 on the trailer, that should test how rotten the Pumpkin really is.

^ That's showing as untaxed for some reason...

It's exempt, presumably that also covers parking on pavement/double yellows

Let me know on any trials competition stuff you spot please.

Long forgotten overhead line layouts. (Yeah, as niche subjects go, it's pretty off the scale).

That is slightly more niche than collecting Texas Homecare instruction leaflets I'd say...

Now things that make you grin, just had a lovely 'serves 3' Steak n ale pie with spuds & carrots to myself.

I have a book of many such layouts sitting on my shelf at home. I love old overhead layouts, me.

Also, tiny trams!

Lots of that criss cross cable shizzle going on in Montpellier

Eugh, nasty modern lightweight European ears and pull offs (yes, that's what they're called). Give me nice Brecknell, Willis, BICC or Wiseman fittings with wooden spacers any day.

Now this is overhead.
