Dog proofed my bin today with some velcro and glue gun stopping missus Moog buying a new bin.

Whilst I was at it I built an outdoor dog bed from a pallet and kids play mats. Our big older dog likes sitting outside and hopefully it will mean he won't sit on the damp grass*

That plus some other diy bits mean I feel manly.

*99% sure he will still do the grass, but I can hope.

In todays paper.

An old recluse has died in a remote area of South Island. In his garage was a fully restored 1934 Gangloff Bugatti type 57 roadster. Turns out he bought it in 1958 for 250 pounds. Multi-millionaires who are members of Autoshite may apply to purchase.

"Bob Turnbull was a familiar sight in the tiny town of Ophir, roaring around in his vintage cars before disappearing into his ramshackle property. No-one new much about him, or what was in his large cluttered shed".

It never ceases to amaze me what cars turn up in this little country, not only ones such as this, but ordinary stuff which is now very rare.

Stayed up all night to watch MotoGP, really glad I did. The big bikes were the BEST race I've seen in a decade - positions swapping 4-5 times per lap, lead swapped half a dozen times, massive two in one overtakes while someone else is already overtaking and the speed of the bloody Ducati down the straights... 350kph several times which is 215 roughly and then throw the bastard into a mega fast corner. 170 mile overtakes with millimetres to spare while on the rumble strips...

And the last lap was simply amazing!

I was sat with heart in mouth several times and I reckon my pulse rate was in the stratosphere!

I had to smile, a mate has spotted this working on the Isle of Wright today, it's done nearly 450000 miles and he said it's mint.

A beardy old fella with glasses. I was there on honeymoon in 2009 and I was impressed by it then. Glad to see it still going strong

Charity shops,

Nowt to do today, thought I was teaching someone some basic IT skills today but turns out it's tomorrow, so I popped out for a bit into town. My DVD player has broken so I checked out the local charity shop who don't seem to usually stock electrical items in the shop, but upon asking, they had one in the store room, turns out the DVD player is also a combined VHS tape player and USB reader! All for £5! No remote with it but eBay might be able to help there.

Some astonishing rugby this weekend. Brilliant stuff. Some astonishing dancing on Strictly too by way of complete contrast. Also, Dyane's exhaust is still leak free. That's grin-worthy.

Recovered a stolen motorcycle last night.

The fucktards that took it had'nt even realised that it had been left outside because somebody had had a pop at it before - the ignition barrel and wiring were completely missing.

I hope they enjoyed the exercise.

Reminds me of my father in law. He had an Escort van that wouldn't start. He took the battery home to recharge it, having flattened it in the attempt to restart. Next day, he found that the van had been gently broken into, and the thieves left a perfectly good battery having given up trying to start it themselves. Result.

Mind you, he had another van nicked once, and gained a load of tools in the process. It was nicked for a further theft job, but some coppers spotted it and the bloke nervously standing near it. They asked if it was his van and the thief had to admit it wasn't and walk away, losing the tools of his 'trade' in the process!

A mate of mine had his workshop broken into many years ago and the thieves left all his snap on gear alone and just tried to steal the 3 cars that were in there. One was minus its engine and the other 2 were also non runners. They did so much damage trying to get them going they were written off

Nice story about the Bugatti. As my Grandma would say, pretty squanky car! Especially for the money paid out!

Have you heard about the fellow in New Zealand with the 1915 lorry...WWI-era, chain drive? Fitted out as a brewery truck. Don't know where he keeps it. Not quite a recluse, he's Sir Something-Or-Other who made those Rings movies a few years ago. I was supposed to go to England to bid on the truck at a Bonhams auction and would have been trying to out-bid him.

Re the above Bugatti, I have found a photo of it with the local postmistress at the wheel.

62 Austin... The truck above will be one of Sir Peter Jackson's fleet. I will try to find a photo as they were out recently and extensively papped.

He could outbid most people !

Being a lecturer nothing makes me smile more than people wanting to learn. Took a 3 hour lecture on the subject of ethics and morality in business this morning, which had a lot of interaction, students really getting into the subject and trying to push their own boundaries.

It is so great when people want to better themselves as a contrast to some of the first years who are there because they have no where else to go.

Classic Cars magazine.

The November issue not only has the story of a one owner Westminster that its owner has proudly never polished, the story of an engineers career which included writing off a pre-production P6 and having 180 and Tagora co.cars. An article on buying 90's V8 coupes,a buying guide on Mk1 Grannys.

But ,best of all a feature on a millionaires car collection that includes a former Autoshite car!

His fleet includes 1956 Mercedes 300c,1961 Bentley S2 James Young Sports Saloon,1966 Jensen CV8, 1973 V12 E-Type- all look pretty concours in the pics , plus a Humber,928, Buick Special , ' modern Maseratis'.

So which former member of the family fleet is in his words 'The most practical car I own'

No guesses from the former owner please!

Cavcraft's Punto?

I don't think I'll be giving too much away if I say it's definitely nothing from Chester's Premier Shite Emporium.

I have sold a few to millionaire collectors but doubt very much they would be that attached to any of mine. James Hull had my Fregate but he has since sold his complete collection to Jaguar.

Not a Peugeot, just French. Not a van but commercial.

One of you is right without apparently knowing it.

Nyphur,it's not you.

I have worked it out now I know who the collector is. It has reminded me that he still owes me money for a headlight rim I sent him months ago.

I better buy a copy of that and send him a snotty email. I didn't sell it to him though. I sold it to a lad in Sheffield who managed to bullshit enough to sell it for a 2k profit. It had quite a few issues that I mentioned when selling it that were left out when it was sold on.

Hello Allegro my old friend

I've come to tweak with you again

Because a displacer softly weeping

Left its fluid while I was sleeping

And the welding that was planted in your floors

Still remains

To the sound of swearing.

Just looking through some old pics and found this.

Went on a road trip across Canada when working for her majesty.

In this fine steed.
