Sold 1995 Renault Clio 1.8 Baccara Manual, MOT March 18 Running Project, £4.50 a go

I only acquired this a month back, but after stepping into my AX this morning to make sure it still works for the new owner, I actually had an epiphany, and that was that I love small carb'd cars. Sadly whilst this Clio is one of those, it isn't the other and to me hooning about in it, whilst enjoyable, isn't the same as swinging a proper old car about. It feels very 90s. 

 

Please be very aware that this is a project, and whilst it will drive to Bicester and back from Reading (via Basingstoke) happily, it does need some things doing to it and I wouldn't recommend using it as a daily at the moment. 

I'll probably regret this sale in years to come but that's how it goes. 

 

Anyway:

 

The good:

 

-Potentially the only 1.8 manual Baccara in the UK. Never sold here with this gearbox, this was professionally converted in 2002 when the original automatic gearbox conked out. 

-It is quick. It doesn't feel like a spaceship but it just gets to speed really effortlessly. Only an 8V 1.8, but still good.

-Interior is really comfortable. Normal Clios are good but this is just lovely.

-Original stereo comes with it. Supposedly rare.

-Has all 4 alloys.

-Really good ride quality.

-New cambelt just before I bought it.

-Gets to temperature quick and stays there.

-No visible rust

-Outside temp gauge works!

-Sound system is amazing

-Comes with a new goodyear tyre in the boot.

The not so good and bad:

 

-Needs 4 new tyres really.

-Needs anti roll bar bushes.

-Needs alloy wheel refurbishment

-Needs a new gearstick gaitor but is still useable.

-Fog lights don't work. 

-I think only one reverse light works

-Paint on roof is shot and needs respray, and sunroof was sealed (cheers)

-Rear windscreen wash not working

-Dents and marks all over

-No visible rust but MOT mentions some underneath...

 

So as above, a project but a unique car and really fun and comfortable. The sound deadening is really good and it feels like a proper small luxury car.

 

I will regret this sale, obviously. But my car aim this year will be easier without it, and it doesn't make me grin as much as I had hoped. O WELL.

 

I am in Reading and for the price of fuel and train fare can deliver it to you.

 

I am open to swaps if in the slim chance anyone on here wants to swap a BX for it. Thought not. Worth a try anyway.

In France these already seem to go for at least £750, and Renault 5 Baccaras are serious coin now.

That's because "whomever" is incorrect here.  The person you are thanking is the subject of the primary verb in the sentence ("delivered"), which takes precedence over the thanks of which they are the object.  Thus "whoever" is the correct form to use in this context.

You’re right, of course, which makes me a peasant too (though I plead flu meds in mitigation). But my iPhone didn’t know about the rest of the sentence when it failed to acknowledge the existence of ‘whomever’ as a word, so I’m still grumpy at the autocorrect.

Video of this arriving, courtesy of my mate's security camera, since it's being stashed at his house. Once an addict, always an addict I suppose...I've gone from hiding bottles of booze around the house, to hiding cars around the local area, as I don't want my family to find out. For goodness sake   . Weather was a bit too horrible for Woolarding pics or the like, I'm afraid.

 

I don't actually have a plan for this I'm afraid to say, it was just too lovely to resist. I might bring it home once I've got rid of a couple of my other vehicles. Meanwhile I'll slap some kurust stuff on its undercarriage and start it up every couple of weeks.

 

Many thanks to Sam for delivering it- TOP SELLA, A+++++++++, WUD BUY AGEN!!1 He even fitted a new battery and clamp after we'd agreed the sale and I'd paid, just because he wanted it right. Thanks mate .

 

Annoyingly, and I blame myself for this, we forgot his booster pack in the boot when I walked him to the station to see him off on his way to Salisbury. There are various ways I could get it back to him, but if anyone happens to be going from SE or Central London sort of way to Reading any time soon would appreciate a relay. I'm pretty sure it'll go in my rucksack so I could drop it off anywhere within about 15 miles of SE6.

 

On the way home I made a couple of spots.

 

 

The owner saw me admiring this 416 SLi Auto outside his block of flats while he was going to the bin store. Said it was his girlfriend's and that she had flat out refused his offer to buy her a newer car as she liked it so much, so he'd touched the paint up and fitted alloys from a later model (though this was an N-Reg, from memory). Confirmed it was a Honda engine. Said he plans to respray the roof as well at some point as it's gone flat.

 

Then I found this on a side road near Catford:

 

 

I didn't look under the tarp to see what's on the trailer. I don't know if it's also for sale, nor do I intend to find out.

Nice to meet you! I hope you get round to sorting it out, unfortunately number crunching made it pretty useless to me after the initial new car purchase feeling wore off.

 

It starts fine after a few weeks of being laid up, and never grumbled when out for a run either. Just a bit hairy on those old tyres and not as good as they should be brakes....quick though, and amazingly quiet.

Oh yeah the boost pack, yeah if anyone can help with that I'd appreciate it! To be honest though, I don't mind having an excuse to drive the Rover....
