Clearly not the guy in front, he appears to be skimming across the surface! Now that's talent.I love these old pics, I like the fact that a Lada Estate was once just an everyday car. Great stuff.

Magic. That's nicely helped me get a few mins closer to going-home time :)

I'm trying to gauge when these were taken - probably says on the website but I'd better get back to work

Lack of anything newer than early 86 suggests that it cant be much later, but that Cortina looks a lot older than about six years... unless

1. Photos were taken over a few years, or

2. Its so grim in that particular part of Yorkshire, the photos all date from 1991. :)

Nice pics - back just before England turned into the tiny, broken version of America it is today. Check out the lack of advertising boards.

Meant to say, in the Escort shot something more modern looking is coming down the hill behind the Metro, any guesses? Regata?

Awful slogan, just terrible. I hope someone lost their job over it.

By the size of that device it looks like they can only sort out the IN_RY on this side of the railway though.

Thanks for the van ID M'coli. Another commercial that seems to have totally escaped my memory.

This is in Ossett corner of Kingsway and Dewsbury road it's only just recently been knocked down for houses. It's walking distance from my house so i'll take a shot tomorrow to show you what it's like now. I'll try and get it from the same angle. When I moved to Ossett 13 years ago Bowetts was a Honda Dealer and the dealer ship to the left was Barons a Lada dealer. Bowetts are still in Wakey (the old BMW site) and also in Ossett but just a storage yard now.

I knew this was a road at some time - old maps show it as towngate but been closed off years ago. They were going to reopen it again (for buses only) but big petition shelved the idea a few years ago.

Told you those Accords used to be common.I remember seeing that Lada Estate around quite a bit, I think it was a bit unusual even then, hence why I noticed it, to see a chrome bumper Lada Estate. Saloons were common until the early `90s.It was red with a thick black stripe which can just about be made out. Always very tidy looking until the last time I saw it, which was late `80s possibly early `90s. GUG is a proper Wakey plate!

At some point we're going to have to organise an Autoshite meetup at Osset, it's been featured so much :)"Osset: Twinned with an internets forum, we're that rubbish".

I used to do the advertising for the Bowetts, It's two brothers, one is generally pissed all the time, whilst the other is mainly on the golf course. They had a big row a few years ago, and went their separate ways, hence why the site changed hands. Robert still has a large dealership in Leeds, covering Saab and Suzuki, and his brother has SB Honda in Wakefield. They have been in the motor trade for donkeys years.

Awesome pics Mr Hirst, I had a giggle working out where the photos were taken from.

Papa 4dr will have been working for Westgate motors at the time, driving to work and back in either a very lacey, white, brush painted HC viva, a maroon viva coupe with maroon furry seat covers, a green 3dr Chevette or a two tone green 4dr Chevette Saloon. I'll see if he can remeber which what he had at the time...

Again Cheers Hirst, I might have to have a drive out with the camera see if I can get some current pics.

Managed a Motorist Discount Centre in Bournemouth in the eighties. they were a nationwide chain who grew very big, very quickly, successfull for about 9 months, then went bust just as quickly. All my fault of course [or that's what my area manager used to tell me] Triying to compete with Halfrauds [who had a store bang opposite] when you had no oil in stock "due to a supplier problem" [i.e.they hadn't been paid] was a bit tricky................
