Really trying to make getting indoor storage a priority now. They've done well sat outside and are always appreciative of a blast around the lanes, but I just love the idea of everything sitting dry, with the windows open and ready to be spannered at no matter what the weather.

It would also place a clear distinguish in the scrap and parts donors and the ones I actually give two shits about.

I also got my first drive and look around my free apricot Polo today. Drives really well, needs pads and/or discs plus a tickle with our magic metal mending friend. Has a wonderful push button start and a damp drivers footwell. I'll probably just use it to get me around the lanes.

Just done my Christmas shopping.

In fact I did it in less time than it took the SAS to storm the Iranian embassy.

What are the safrannes like? More than a big Laguna?

Posted

Not comparable to the Laguna at all. They're in a massively undiscovered league of their own.

Suspension is as wafty as they come, especially on my K plater that has air suspension. Dash is pretty much a modernised 25, talking computer reminded intact and is highly entertaining. Seats are the best I've ever sat in.

Basically they're so French that you're magically fluent in their lingo after each journey.

Drained, flushed and replaced the coolant in the Nissan today and fitted the new number plates front and rear, its looking and running really well now. Next up is a service, replace the drivers side headlight and get some new mats because these ones were cheap 3 years ago and and all worn and rucked up now. I'm looking at some thick rubber mats which Aldi are punting at £6.99 a set currently as they'd move about less than felt ones.

Old rear number plate has been transplanted onto my trailer too, so that's fully legal now too.

I copper greased the bonnet catch too as I've noticed it been getting a bit reluctant recently so hopefully it won't get jammed.

All in all not a bad morning spent tinkering.

been busy today doing the jobs that i've been putting off all week, cos i've been on holidays and laying in bed was a better idea.

back and front rooms tided up, hoovered, furniture moved and xmas tree erected.

bloody jiggered now...

also giving serious thought to skipping the record player in the back room which hasn't been bothered with in some years. not tried the record player, but it looks like the tape players not working though the cd player does. i'm sick of looking at the friggin' thing.

Having just had a rant about stupid people, I fear I had better own up to a bit of basic stupidity of my own... not proud of it though.

Just had an FTP with the Bentley. Went out to take the mutts our (blowing a gale, dog lame as fuck but...) and the central licking didn't. So ynlocked the back door manumatically and got the dogs in (Chester took this delay as an opportunity to sod off over the road an pee on hos nemesis's gate post!) stuck key in ignition and the steering column didn't motor down to its 'in use' position.... of course, turning the key was met with a resounding SFA.

I was a tad bloody annoyed and was having to resist the urge to kick things and shout at the dog (it's always his fault!) and appear as if all was well in my world as people were watching... So out with the AA card and mobile phone in hand and I'd just started dialling when a lightbulb flashed dimly above my head...

So I opened the boot (unlocked, worrying) and turned the master switch back to the 'on' position,, whereupon everything returned to normal.  Yes, I'd been buggering around in the boot yesterday, playing with the toolkits and spare bulbs and so on, when a switch appeared before my eyes, a 'strange' switch that needed pressing/turning/fiddling with, so I did and then forgot all about!

Why oh why, do I need a ;master

to stop the staff joyriding whilst lord-of-the-manor has "tiffin"

I saw a car being loaded onto a recovery lorry this afternoon. It was Citroen C5 (or 6) and not all that old. I felt sad...

Also, last night a mate tried to top himself for Christmas. Spent the night in Torbay hospital.

Christmas is a bad time for some people. I hope your friend is getting the help he needs.

I've just test fitted my latest eBay purchase- original Thule roof bars designed just for the w124 coupe. Used my years supply of nectar points for it. But haven't seen any others come up for sale in four years.

I'm going to get a bike rack to go on it, but Thule are bringing out a new model in the new year so the cost of the 591 pro ride should come down then.

I've had an antique weather vane to repair  in the forge for a year ..It fell off the roof of a large old house in a gale and was smashed and bent ... I started to fix it, but a lot of it is lead and fatigued ,and it was 1 step forward ..10 steps back   , and it was " fuck it ..i'll do it another day :angry008: "   job ...    Anyways, the lady rang me to see if i'd done it , so i've dug it out , and i've put the East and West letters on the wrong arms... and i rivited them on really well ...plonker

Today, I discovered that the Nippa is about half the width of an Audi.

The little thing is still going pretty well. Not sure if the thermostat is goosed or not. Warms up quickly, but gauge barely reaches a quarter. It does stay there though and the heater is toasty.

However, the wipers have developed a horrendous squeak. Sounds like a dry rubber bush to me so at some point, I'll have to have the arms off and go squeak hunting. Hopefully without having to remove the entire mechanism...

Drove the Egg to Driotwich this morning. First:

After a CX, normal cars are really, really shit. What the hell is with all the steering and twirling and flailing.

And I have never known a car that attracts such universal hatred on the roads. I think other road users would literally gang up and ram an Xsara Picasso to death if they thought they'd get away with it.

Nottingham tonight. Probably Egg again.

Those mats are good. Got a set for the Shuma to keep the carpet ones clean over winter.

The Pride's temperature gauge never reads above a quarter but the fan and everything kicks in as it should. Demisters aren't tye warmest but the feet heaters are toasty :)

My chod bothering activities have been on the back burner while I restore a 1980's racing yacht. Today I finally tracked down the source of a rainwater leak which has been bothering me since the boat came ashore for the winter :)

Have also paid the deposit on new sails too. Cost wise it's like owning a floating Bentley...

Out of curiosity Cheggers, whats the yachts name? The reason I ask is that my late father used to sail in the round-the-island race in the 1980s and I know you're local to me so would be a colossal coincidence if it was the one he used to crew.

anyway, great work on finding and fixing the leak! I think there are a fair few of us on here who can sympathise with the fun of tracking down leaks, albeit not always in yachts!

The boat's a Mark 1 Figaro class racer (scene tax Mexico RS2000 yo) called Aardee. If you or any other shiters fancy a day on the water next summer, the offer's always there...

Cheggers, does it have a sunroof?

I suppose it does in a way...overhead hatches in the saloon, khazi and forward cabin ;)

I'll ask mum next time I ring her, I have a photo on the wall here of 'White Wings' which I think was featured in The Times in era, but I am not too about anything else.

I believe it could be this:

but the internet suggests its a fairly common name so could be wrong!

Pride also got a new thermostat at the beginning of last year as I didn't believe that the temp gauge should be there. New thermo readings, same as the old thermo readings.

All as it should be.

P.S.  it was a complete arse to get that thermostat housing sealed properly after, so NEVER touch the bugger.
