But, but, but, that lovely SERCK plate on the Transit! Don't you want to keep that?

Posted

New tat arriving this evening, currently en route from Belgium.

It's a flat-four, watercooled, fwd five-seater family car of unusual construction, built in tiny numbers, that killed its parent firm.

Any ideas?

Scratch that, I've just reread that it's just for the front!

Yes, that old SERCK plate will stay on the rear. Unfortunately it's lost the matching one for the front at some point. It's got a modern plastic one at the mo with the EU dictatorship symbol on it and it looks crap! I only bought the front plate for the Transit.

The pair (C reg ones) are to replace the plastic ones on the Granada.

Edit, I got them from here: http://www.classicplatesonline.co.uk/plates.asp?utm_source=Adwords&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=%2Bpressed%20classic%20%2Bnumber%20%2Bplates&utm_campaign=Plates&utm_content=10757719094&Network=Search&SiteTarget=&gclid=CIOlw6_isscCFQTHtAodgF0Ang if anyone's interested.

Lancia Flavia?

*EDIT* Though they were quite numerous, Jowett then? Though what the chuff a Jowett would be doing in Belgium I will never know.

Trying to find someone willing to weld up a rusty Mercedes R107.

So far three body repair places have looked at it and decided it's too big a job. It's not that big a job but it will involve dropping the rear suspension. Which is why they've all shit out.

Argh.

I might have suggested a 2011 Saab 9-5 but, as far as I know, their construction is not unusual and it doesn't quite fit with your usual quality choices.

I'm looking at selling my Focus soon so i thought I'd remove my private number plate as it takes a few weeks, I've just used that new online service and it's all happened instantly! I wasn't expecting that. So i'm now stuck on hold trying to inform my insurance company that it's back on it's old plate again.

I shouldn't complain though, It's now £25 cheaper to put on retention and the change is instant so it's a better service.

The Alfa coped well towing the shite family caravan to the New Forest. I get a lot of pleasure having the oldest most worthless caravan on the site. It's a 1993 5 berth but it all works well in a retro kind of way. OK, there's no heating or hot water but not a problem in August. It gives the same feeling as running an old, unpopular car. Others may look on in derision but we're having the last laugh as it's worth less than a monthly instalment on their new model and is doing a grand job. I thought it would expire about 5 years ago but it just refuses to die!

Nice but to new  You need a £500 Adria Optima for 1987. Need to pop a pic of mine up.

I had a eu one on the caravan. I may* have removed it and put it on a hot bbq after a few half shandies.

Wartburgs don't have enough cylinders. It's not German. The thing we're getting is related, in a fairly tortuous way, to one of the cars in my sig.

In other news, the 404 passed its second British MoT today - in ten years of being here. Gonna collect it on thursday. There will be an eye-watering bill to pay but it's one step closer to being on the road. Registration next...

Is it one of those weird Dolomite-with-Bentley-lights things?

edit: no that's RWD

You mean, it IS the Hotchkiss Grégoire? I was trying to think "other than Jowett" and that was the first hit - and a car I'd never heard of or seen before, which is damn unusual.

Granada passed it's MOT today.

Seems the MOT computer has screwed itself so MOT's no longer register on the system, or with DVLA (for taxing!).

They've had to issue me a hand written contingency certificate for now then when the system comes back to life proper ones will be sent out and registered on the system.

Presumably this also means the police won't be able to check if your MOT'd or not?

Sounds like a crap car. Should scrap it.

Ideally, scrap it here.

It's nicer than most of our old shite actually. It's been re trimmed nicely, but the paint and everything else is original

That is gorgeous but you're going to need a fluorescent tube to light up the number plate.

This isn't really worthy of the grump thread as it's more an acceptance of reality.

I'm going to have a major scale down of my shite. Like most people in the western world i've got thousands of pounds worth of debt (high four figures), i've also got thousands of pounds worth of cars and parts ( mid - high four figures).

I work 6-7 days a week, mostly 7, so any spare time i have i really CBA spending mending/fettling my own cars (i'm a panel beater by trade)

Plan is to get rid of the cortinas' over the next couple of weeks, as well as all the parts.

Sounds sensible to me especially as you will most likely be paying interest on the debt. Makes sense to scale down a bit, pay off some of the debt and leave yourself with one or two you can work on. You can always scale back up a bit when things improve.

You might beat me on age but I think I probably beat you on price as I doubt mine is worth £500! I've just googled an image and it looks class. Is it like this one? If so I particularly like the bulbous nose.

I'm all Rovered up again having collected my new R8 shite this evening. It was only in Bucks so no epic journey, just a blez along the M40/M25 and home. No pez shot either as it still had half a tank, but here's a deserted car park shot in failing light

It comes with stacks of history, having been serviced every 6 months since new and the headgasket done in 2007. I've been looking forward to trying the 1.4 kettle in these and it's GR12. No match for the AS bike 220 obviously, but is quicker than I thought it'd be, and sits at 70 on the motorway without too much racket. Should be good as a stop gap whilst I spend time fixing up the shonky old Cavalier.
