I went to see this after work. The bodywork is RAF, way worse than it seems in the pictures. It was red but had a really shitey blow over and you can still see red through it in parts. There's filler on the door and roof that's been wobbed in and not sanded down. On the plus side it looks solid in all the right places. There's no carpets in it so you can see the floors have been welded but are solid. It was actually pretty quick but felt a bit chittery on corners because of the welded diff.

It was 1500 quid. I'm having a think, as it needs paint but the money involved doesn't justify it.

Called my Insurer today to check that I still had my new tenant on as a named driver, turns out it was up for renewal. They quoted me over £110 less than last year! I think this is the first time that it's gone down on a renewal quote.

Today the Merc went in for investigation/repair of leakages, but as we were both late getting there/starting not a lot of progress was made. So far they got as far as the viscous fan but it appears someone has attempted repairs before which resulted in the rounding off of some bolts which has hampered progress.

Thus this has left me Mercedes-less for a while so for some of today and some of tomorrow, so until Merc comes back, I shall be bombing about in this bundle of joy:

Fun!

I've had 2 106's, a 1.5D and also a 1.1 petrol. Both fun little cars. I racked up loads of mileage in my little 1.1 as a daily (stop gap back end of 2013 into 2014). Would have another!

This one is a 1.1, it's got a fair amount of poke for a small thing, steering feels a bit wierd like it needs tracking or summat, but that's with most of Steve's cheap and cheerful cars. I'm only borrowing this one until the German Tank is sorted.

If it were mine, I'd happily frisbee the cheapo wheel trims into the nearest hedge in exchange for some Peugeot items, get tracking sorted, clean it up and chuck in some proper Peugeot floor mats.

I believe CavCraft (Cavette) is promoting one of these in his stock at the moment.

I've just sat down and worked out that the Mondeo did about 33 mpg on the Austin collection mission.  Not brilliant, but not too bad considering the traffic on the way up, the up-and-down run over the peaks with the trailer, and the fact that I was cruising at 75-80 all the way back to try and make up for lost time.  Probably the fastest the wee Austin has ever moved in its 56 years on earth.  And backwards too - suck on that DAF 33s.

Yesterday I arranged to go to the Malvern Restoration Show with L_STERLING. Took the MGF because I'm really getting into it.

Work has a storage unit out in the CAMBS BADLANDS which makes my Stockport shack look like a right old pile of wank. Can't really show you what's in there because most of it doesn't belong to me, but the Charade is in there in while a potential buyer decides whether he wants it or not.

Arrived at L_STERLING's and I put the hood up because it was pumping down. On the way my Brum counterpart decides to 'fix' the cigarette lighter by breaking two of the locating tabs. The MGF needed a boost off a slave battery, and I decided to keep said 068 in the boot along with some industrial flavour jump leads. I thought it prudent to do so as there's some kind of electrical short which flattens the fart of a battery in a week and a half and my recovery place wouldn't add it to my list of rammle ('they're too much of a liablity and it's too old'). Needless to say, with the jettisoned adaptor and equipment sat waiting, we improvised a whole Autoshite charging system:

I stuffed my face with a Yorkie because despite my facial injuries I'm still fat and the food baby needs sating.

Reverse angle for consummate phone boosting.

Arrived at the grounds of the show and it was still humming down with wet. I sacked off the Halfords Mondeo 'MGF' letters because they looked a bit too attention-defecit-disorder for my tastes man. Next job will be to apply some WD40 to melt off the adhesive. NERT \ BORT sticker is also doing one.

The Malvern restoration show was soggy and hardcore, held in three cattle sheds. There were a few old cars milling around but this was by far the greatest specimen, rocking a quartet of Tipo wheel trims:

LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT IT!

As soon as we'd effed off we headed for the M5 and stopped in Great Malvern for a look round some expensive tat shops. View was bosting:

Tomorrow I'm picking up a shagged radiogram to as an ironic hipster workshop stereo. LIVING THE DREAM.

Hey, LS, those 1.1 Puglets are ace!  My first experience of lift off oversteer was in one of those and I had a grin on my face from the moment I got in to well after the moment I got out of it.  I'd deffo have one if there was reason to, one of the most giddy fun small engine cars I've ever driven.

It even has a towbar bracket on the front for double shite collection.

Getting pretty fed up with Nissan's inability to book me a test drive with the Leaf..

Posted

EV forums seem to report that Nissan dealers can be a VERY mixed bunch. May pay to speak to a few.

In other news, I'm trying to plot some collection capers for a car I haven't bought yet.

What dealer are you speaking to?

Parks in EK was where i wanted to collect.so far no contact from them

I called and booked via the 899899 number on the website, but they apparently have no record of me-despite being able to call me back to see if i was still interested in arranging a test drive?

I wrote a quick blog piece and pointed them (politely) to it via twitter-initial response was rapid

Waiting to see if I hear from them at all

You can't book a 7 day test drive via the website you can only do it over the phone. I'm surprised they've not been in touch as there's big intensives for them to sell them.

It was in Paisley not far from the St Mirren ground.  I am tempted, just not sure if I want to pay 1500 for it.

The Volvo's fuel filler flap hinge finally broke this morning, after being cracked for nearly ten years. Luckily, a replacement only cost me £3.00 from PFS Parts :)

Called to book the 7 day testdrive.

I now have no seats or carpets in the Xantia and I'm enjoying myself.  That plus the commonsense levelled at me on this here forum is making me waver in my resolve to sell.  Clearly I need a car that requires fiddling with on a regular basis to be happy, that and squishomatic seats.

I have arranged some collection capers for Thursday. The weather forecast is horrific rain. The car has an entire month of MOT and magazine reviews seem reluctant to give it more than two stars and are often very rude about it. Perfect!

The vehicle is not French. More than that, I'm not prepared to admit. It's a car I've never driven before though, so that rules the City Rover out. That and the fact that they really are quite dreadful...
