940 didn't sell, finished at £205. Thought it was an easy sell with test til November and LPG.

Arses.

I think what Billy's getting at is the SDI engine is a n/a PD engine and thus won't drink the veg.  They're not a bad wee car, though.

From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Volkswagen_Group_diesel_engines#1.9SDI)

Yes, that's what I meant, Len. I was told by some people supposedly 'in the know' that SDI wouldn't take veg oil, but I stand to be corrected. It won't be a problem anyhow I'd have thought if you were punting it on.

Alf: I had a leaking sump on a Corsa B once, being a dickhead I went to a scrapyard who it turned out are notoriously/stupidly expensive for second hand parts and bought one for £35. I could have got a new one for less.

Posted

There is one on the bay for 31 quid delivered but will try factors first. Sump gasket was 4 quid for branded one.....these range from 8 on ebay + similar in post.

Can't complain really as we have had it 6/7 years and this is the first non service spend. Over 30 bloody quid in one go!!

There's a later 2.0 SDI fitted to Golfs and Caddys which is unit injection.

With veg cars becoming harder to find it's good to know, if you can put up with the misery, that the old SDI is veg friendly and runs up to 2007 in some cars.

Half tempted to keep the Labia for a while, it's cheap to tax and insure, and I'm quite skint at the moment.

Well I have the money for the Frontera in the tin, it has been collected and I'm yet to see anything that has remotely tempted me. £550 doesn't buy much round these parts it would seem, perhaps I scrimp up a few more notes and make an offer on this?

Had a good time today at the Brooklands Austin-Morris day. Saw shiter RobT and his lovely Metro, also saw Alexg's Allegro estate and Sinclair C5 but missed the man himself. Lovely weather, and I managed to power the Somerset up the Test hill which was good fun!

Also, all the work myself and dad did last week on the Maestro's engine has paid off as he's just phoned and it's now running well. The autochoke is working, but sticking on, also there's a slight exhaust blow somewhere under the car but it starts first turn of the key now. Should be able to aim for an MoT soon!

Is this you Dicky?

They look alright hose Labias. I think they did a petrol version that was a bit shit, for some reason I can't remember, but they're a nice enough looking car and a veg friendly diesel has to be worth a punt.

I still hanker after an old as possible Berlingo van and lobbing an XUD with a Bosch pump in  it. There must be some sort of logic in hoarding away a few veg friendly cars for future use, but if they ever start putting RFL on fuel I reckon they'll outlaw the use of veg.

I'm a bad person but I laughed when they were filming a guy on the motorway looking hard/cool in a landrover with no roof/doors and at the second the bonnet popped open.

Was good to see you again Dicky, and you did a grand job getting up the test hill. I got one photo of you before my camera battery died, so will download it at some point.

First show of the season and the weather was good, and it was an all round great 'car stuff' day. I've also decided to keep the Metro and realised I'm an idiot for even thinking about selling it.

Red Princess is, I noticed, leaking from the same place under the fuel pump as the beige one, just as well I've got some suitable new sealant to resolve that then.  I've now ordered and am waiting for the hydragas fluid, fuses, water pump and crank seal to arrive so I can get them both sorted out.  Need to pester the neighbour to see if his jack will fit under the red Princess so that I might be able to free the jack, or at the very least get the back end up so I can do the brakes and fit a non-bust sphere so that I can then reset the suspension and free the jack that way.

I'm also hoping insurance renewal won't be too horrible as I get the magical 3 years NCB this time and have a much better idea of what I do and don't need insurance wise.  I'm of the opinion that I'm probably a little bit over-insured as I've got things like commuting on my policy which is something I don't actually do.  Planning to try Peter Best, Lancaster, Adrian Flux (who I'm currently with), Admiral (who were good, but not competitive at last renewal), Carol Nash and anyone else anyone can think to suggest that will offer me a good sub-£1000 policy for fully comp cover on a classic car and the ability to drive others third party.  I'll hit Go Meerkats too, because we all need a laugh now and then don't we?

EDIT:  Meerkats say £150 for either Princess on a policy that's the same as I presently have, but with no commuting.  Ã‚£180 for the Renault, weirdly, I was expecting that to be even cheaper still.  Even so, it's a big chunk of saving as I presently pay out just over £90 a month in insurance.  Gives me a figure to play with at least when I call up insurers.  Looks like I might be able to save a crapload of cash after all.

Just back from Morpeth. Collecting a Panda 4x4 I recommended a mate to buy off Ebay. 2005, and all good. Brilliant little cars. I've said before and will repeat. A Fiat Panda is the only car people really need.

Volvo got to stretch it's legs a bit, and over the 240 odd miles, averaged 63.7 MPG. Not bad at all, and beginning to make sense.

Yup, our Panda is awesome!! Not many motors about I think will be bona fide klassiks but I reckon these will.

I'm particularly intrigued by the TwinAir Panda. Hope to get my hands on one later in the year.

In more shite-related news, spent some of this morning waxing the underside of the Sirion to try and stop it deteriorating. Then I pulled the rear drums off, discovering that the shoes are pretty low. Prices for a set on Ebay seem to range between £15 and £130!

Mostly though, I'm excited about tomorrow's collection capers. Bye bye Disco, hello BX. I somehow think that even though it's a rare shade of grey inside, the BX's interior will lack the excitement of the Disco's delicious blue. I've got a week to 'settle in' with the BX before heading to Kent in it.

Moved the 340 into the garage so I can start cutting the grot out and welding in new metal.

I'm not entirely sure how long it's going to take but I'm not going for anything concourse so could just be slap-dash with a little more filler than usual.

Sitting in it made me realise why I like it so much though, in my opinion the dashboard is fantastic, quite big but not intrusive.

You can't just throw that out there without more details and pictures..

Don't want to say too much yet as funds haven't cleared but here is a teaser.

2.0? Nice colour.

The seller of the garage find Corsair has rang tonight, he's pumped the tyres up and said the bodywork is much better than he expect so a time has been arranged for viewing on Saturday. I IZ EXCITED.

Also I dropped the original damaged front seats from my Cortina to the trimmers today and new discs and pads have arrived for the Accalim, I feel as if I'm spending money like it's going out of fashion, I have the Focuses new fuel pump to pay for tomorrow too.

Yep 2.0.

Looks a lovely barge I must say - it hasn't been driven for a couple of months, and neither has my 18 prior to the past couple of weeks, so it has the potential to be horrific.

Must change the noisy wheel bearings on the 18 before then.

Gratuitous shite shot.  Both my cars parked up next to my well-appointed* council lock-up where I keep the Metro.

I'm taking the 416 in to have the valve clearances done on Wednesday.  I contemplated doing it myself this weekend but I need it to work next week for a few long trips, and with my skills I'm liable to just bugger it up.  I spent two hours today hoovering and cleaning the interior as it hadn't been done for months, so it now looks like a mint motah!
