A truly gorgeous car!

And seemingly impossible to park. Despite the steering.

@320touring Are you going to do little bit of prep and get the Leaf entered to do Forrestburn properly?

(I used to hold a class record at Forrestburn, back in the day (Road Saloons 1000 to 1300cc, in a Lada) )

Nice one re the Class Record - you must pedal it some😁)

Highly unlikely as:

A ) I'm not that good🤣

B ) It's the daily car, so doing track mods would make it less useful for day to day work

C ) As I understand it, the fact it's electric makes it more challenging for sanctioned events - e.g. fire suppression equipment for battery fires etc needed, and I don't think the club have all the kit needed (not do I expect them to do so!)

D ) The track day cost £35, and I could have as many runs as I wanted (only 25 cars booked on), whereas the actual events have up to 85 cars, and cost £100 or so. This means significantly fewer runs for your money

E ) I don't want to get down the rabbit hole of modding a car/seriously running. I enjoy the track days as a bit of relaxation. I don't want to be up at 3am on a Sunday morning trying to get camber bang on 🤣 I'm far too lazy for that

That 900 looks a little odd with the later front end tacked on.

Will follow plastic repairs with interest, got a similar machine waiting for me to get my arse in gear.

The Rover failed its Mot on a rear tyre, which is better  than last year when it needed new front brakes and some welding.

likewise, I assumed that the metal bits heated up, melted it together then you removed them - but judging by the number of elements in the plastic bags you actually leave the metal wiggly wires melted into the plastic to reinforce once you've joined the broken plastic together, is that right?

That's right, then once it's cooled down you snap/cut off the protruding legs .

I tried using one on my ML's bumper but the plastic had degraded so badly it just split next to any repair.

Yes, metal bits stay as a reinforcement and are an actual thing holding the repair together.

Verdict: Very simple and intuitive to use. You put the thing in, squeeze the trigger, thing gets heated, push it in, release the trigger, wait for a few seconds for plastic to cool, remove the gun, wait another 15, snap off the protruding bits.

For prettier results than what’s shown here, you can get plastic welding rods, but I went with superglue and baking soda, as I don’t really care about how it looks, I just don’t want it snapping again at the same place. The break was where there are two welds, rest are reinforcements that I thought make sense.

Got a cheapy Chinese (?) plastic welder, actually quite impressed with the repairs I've done so far,  base of a cheap Chinese (?) battery strimmer and the front mudguards on a mobility scooter which competes for size with my rrc.

Only problem I've had is that the tangs aren't always that snappable once they're welded in, easily cured by an angry grinder 😁

Invisible heatshield FTW. Unless you're parking on long dry grass probably not worth worrying about.

Just got back from Somerset - went down to visit the folks and meet my new nephew.  Decided to take the Z4 for a change - 500-mile round trip and it was fine, not as relaxing as the Rover or Ampera due to the firm ride and lack of cruise control, but still perfectly manageable.  According to the trip computer it managed about 39mpg overall, although my rough calculations suggest it was closer to 37 - still pretty decent for a slightly undergeared 2.5-litre sports car.

The engine light came on once in each direction - both times it was a fault code related to the purge valve, didn't seem to affect anything and the light stayed out once turned off with the code reader so I'm not going to worry about it for now.

Superglue and baking soda

IMG_4637.jpeg.e3da940379053ac0ded186c631d8d9a8.jpeg

I've not seen the baking soda and superglue trick before. Is the idea that the powder gives it somewhere to cling to so it doesn't all run away?

It both acts as a filler and reinforces the superglue, the resulting bond is much stronger than plain superglue. It forms into a rocky substance that can be sanded or filed, as opposed to plain superglue that’s just goop.
You can use this to remake things as well. Plastic mounting point missing? Tape a piece of paper to the remaining stuff, draw what you need with superglue making sure it’s connected to leftover material, add baking soda, repeat if you need it thicker, sand/file if you want to make it pretty or you can’t push the screw/tab through. Add mesh for extra rigidity.

Boring, how it actually works fluff ahead:
Essentially, superglue hardens when in contact with moisture. Baking soda acts as a catalyst, provides additional surface area, and wicks the moisture from the air, resulting in instant curing. This reaction also creates heat, which speeds it up even more. It also increases the surface area for contact and acts as a filler adding bulk to the glue itself. Fast drying adds strength to superglue as well.

Thanks for the explanation, I’ve often used this method but never knew why it worked so well.

Mrs ODM is become increasingly less subtle about what she thinks of the out of MOT Audi on my drive (just needs bonnet lifting, new battery and cable fitting).

I take from this that she considers it a skip.

She’s not 100% angry as only dry recycling placed in the vehicle,

A considerate strop that I take as a warning shot…

@bangernomics when’s your lad back to make me a risible offer.

Just ordered a lithium jump pack as a temporary* alternative to figuring out the battery drain issue on the v70.

It's a Noco which seems to be a real brand, it's the 1500A model. Probably overkill, but better than something unsuitable.

It’s not as bad as it looks, I’ve cleared it out as the bin men have been and I had need of the cardboard for parcels (it was piled in my office and she’s clearly had enough and thrown it in the car - weirdly the boot was empty and could have gone in there…).

It now looks like this…

IMG_6416.jpeg.3335b15cb59fd4a131ab6d2d083be019.jpeg

There’s every chance I may get to it myself and fit the new bonnet cable I ordered (£100 for new oem) and replace the battery but currently my sister in law is in a hospice so every day is a 40 mile round trip to the hospice then eat and sleep and not much else being done.

It’s not being neglected, just needs fixing - it’s had the rear brake light fixed, the roof restored and all the bits to make it go are here, it’s a time thing right now.

Whilst tidying today, I did also sneak the period Audi head unit I bought in too. I have a humble cassette to iPhone adapter for the music once I get it going.

it’s in for cosmetic effect and plugged in, but I’ll need to take it out again as one of the cables for the flaps has come loose and needs a tinker/knuckle skin removal job doing.

funnily enough I was just thinking about this the other day, in that I was wondering if could you run every registration mark between REV1R to REV999R? it would be interesting to know if any other REV-R's of any sort of vehicle survive at all? :)

the only other REV-R I have ever actually seen is REV690R this Ford Capri
