Well I've just bought another car. Like I need another one! It's an E38 740i with 268k on it, fulls years mot, mega service history, mint interior with the telly and all that. There's a few scabby bits on it but given what I'm paying for it I'm not bovard. My mate swapped his Isuzu Trooper for it as he wanted the wheels.

I need some wheels.

The DS has been causing something of a stir among the neighbours - even though they are used to seeing unusual tat turn up on my driveway on a fairly regular basis. It has to be said it really is quite an unusual looking thing - it's longer than I thought too, I had in my mind that it was a lot shorter than the CX but judging by how much driveway it takes up there's only about 8" in it. I've taken the condenser off so will be popping in to Wilco tomorrow to see if they can find something to match it. Then next weekend, if it's dry and slightly less windy than it was today, I'll start tackling some of the rust. It's had some appalling repairs to the driver's sill in the past which will probably need to be redone before its next MoT. I also fixed the screenwash - someone had plumbed the pump in the wrong way round so it was a 30-second job. If only the rest of my Citroën-related issues could be fixed that easily...

This afternoon I went to have another look at one of the non-runners I've agreed to purchase. After a bit of fiddling it appears that the wiring to the fuel pump is dodgy so it isn't priming - hopefully a length of wire from a live down to the pump should get it working for long enough to get the car started and onto my towing dolly. I'm thinking I might take the live from one of the rear lights, so I can control the pump by switching the lights on and off. Then once it's home and not parked on wet grass any more I can get under the car and try to fix it properly. Which should be fun - I hate Italian wiring.

That's a job for the weekend after next though, 'cos next weekend I've got to pick up the other non-runner, which might be more fun as the engine is seized through standing so I'm not sure yet how I'm going to get it on the dolly. I might have to bite the bullet and hire a trailer with a winch to move that one. Hopefully it'll be worth it though - it's tax exempt and not too rusty for what it is, and it is cheap. More info and photos in due course, providing everything goes to plan.

I've just had my first 'bid blind' experience since the Mini in 2006. Didn't win, much to the relief of the wife!

£571.10 seems pretty good value, though I guess there was a higher bid than that on the table. It was more than I was willing to pay without an eyeball check. Still got plenty more 4x4s on the watch list though.

Breath duly bated, Wuv! Hooks tentered. State of suspense entered. Any or all of those...

Ian, have you considered Pete-M's "Heep?" Not far enough away from you to be a nightmare trip, and it's coming from a known source...

Posted

Yeah, has been considered. LPG tank would be a pain though. The Rangie proved very useful for shuttling stuff about.

So That's what the deleted PM was about..... ;-)

Aye! Sorry. Mind you, you hadn't read it despite being on here several times! :P

The shite 4x4 search continues.

Hello chaps,

I've spotted an advert for a piece of tremendous shite that I have always wanted. The car in question dates from 1983, and is located in South East London. Basically the owner has died and his family are trying to find a new home for said car which is parked outside his flat on the street and has not been used for several months. The tax expires at the end of January, and it's showing as currently insured as well. Unfortunately the family can't find any of the paperwork, so I have no idea if it has an MOT or not. If it has some MOT it is a much better proposition as I would be able to drive it home rather than mess around trying to arrange someone to collect it (which is made more difficult by the unusual wheel configuration..).

Ok, what I am trying to say is, is there a way of finding out if a car is MOT'd without any of the paperwork to hand?

Thanks.

If it's taxed until the end of this month, then a reminder will have come throught the post - ask them to find that then try to get the tax renewed and the DVLA will find out if it's MOT'd for you.

If we ever get a 'wank heap of the month' section for Autoshiter's own cars I may have pissed the award for January. BMW just gone and I've scored THE most council car of ever.

Pictures and shit later, prepare to be deeply offended.

Does this explain the sudden Reliant interest?

Drove a Discovery 300Tdi today. Bit leggy at 176k but had already had lots of welding done. Sadly, the noisy gearbox, leaking water pump and £1500 asking price rather put me off, though I was surprised at how smooth the 300Tdi engine is. Felt quite laggy on the road, pretty much like the VM. If I believe the 'OMG Tdi IS GOOD' hype, that's not how it should behave.

I'm getting to clock up some miles in a mate's Delica L400 on Wednesday, so we'll see how I get on with that. Apart from my own dreadful Trooper Mk1, I've not had much wheel time in J-4x4-tin.

That's how they behaved when they were brand new. Gutless, gutless, gutless, slightly less gutless, gearchange, gutless, gutless, gutless.

Sorry, I failed slightly as there's no Lexarse lights or gash 'M3' lookalike rims...BUT it has a 'factory fitted' M3 bodykit (yeah, right  ] and absolutely frigging hideous M3 replica mirrors. Being a 4 cylinder (1.8 I think) it's heavier (at least I'd think it was being a convertable) and painfully slower then the 2.5.

GR12 for frost bite. It looks like it's got the m-tec kit on it. No offence to any burds listening but it looks like a women spec of car. Leather, body kit, metallic paint and the worst engine in the range.

Happy to report that the roof hasn't closed properly or something and I got piss wet through this morning!

health taking a nose dive again it seems - been on the morphine over the last 3 nights...hurts like buggery...very cheesed off as I had hoped last year's op had worked.

Other than that, looking forward to collecting the torsten Rover sometime in the next week or so and the LS 800 sometime soon afterwards

I've seen a couple of adverts for these that say "ruuf dusnt close rite but drives good with ruuf up". Has it just not clipped in right.

I secretly quite like these.

Aye, hadn't spotted any obvious rips etc so hopefully it hasn't clipped back on properly. It's pissing down now and the sensible thing to do would be to go to work in my lad's car, so I'm going in the BMW instead. C U L8R DRY RITE ARM!

If they did, then I really don't understand why the unit is lauded over the VM. I reckon this Disco would probably have benefited from an intercooler clean out and removal of the EGR nonsense, but I still thought it felt very flat off-boost, and took a long time to boost up.

It is not. Hang in there.

Also, the 460's clutch has gone - well, to be precise the clutch retention bolt that holds the clutch cable to the pedal has gone. This is not good for SCTSH_ANDY because he was using it as his back up car with his 405 and 9000 being off the road.

Turns out this clutch bolt is a dealer only part and they have to go to the central store in Sweden to get hold of it. SCTSH reckons it will be a bastard of a job to change as well. I did have a look to see if it's a known 400 series fault (among many) but couldn't find any - it looks as if it's fractured through stress and the pedal is on the floor.

I've just bought this steaming pile of horse manure.

6754515873_d8bdcf390c.jpg

It's a bit scabby in places.

1999 diesel estate with tow-bar.2 owners and 128k,cambelt replaced at 89k.

I bought it from BCA out of T.C.Harrison's section (local ford maindealer).

It is showing as still taxed but I don't have the disc.Sometimes the tax-disc arrives a few days later so fingers crossed.

Anyway apart from the broken door mirror (most of which is in the car) the brake pedal is hard so I suspect servo/ vacuum pump.

Haven't really looked at it yet as the weather is rather damp at the moment.

Tested until April and maybe taxed the same is this worth £395.00 to sell ?

Oops. I've just won a £500 Ford Maverick, with MOT until Aug and a bit of tax. Not much description on it but I found it with seconds to go. Seems cheap to me. Guess I'll find out soon whether it's cheap for a reason!

Take care mate, hang on in there, hope everything will work out for you mate.

Will take to Manjit tonight about the 800 and we'll get the ball rolling. :D

unblocked the plenum drain on the 75 tourer.

i urge anyone with a 75 to check this, its a 10 minute job,

it can cause terminal ecu problems if left blocked (gr9 design) . symptoms are wet passenger footwell, general dampness, sloshing water noise.

the pollen filter is also in the plenum, and rots away, smells great
