I got in the smart and went to start it. When I turned the ignition the wipers came on and dragged a screwdriver I'd Pissing well left on the wiper across the screenwhile fannying around with the motor. There was a huge mark right across the screen in the drivers eye line. After unsuccessfully trying to kick a passing pigeon up the arse in disgust it occurred it might not be a scratch but just be a mark made by the plastic screw driver handle. After applying some tcut and it started to come off. Thank fuck,I wouldn't fancy paying for a new screen on one of these.

The Delica ran again today, after jumping it off of the van, it was still a bit stuttery at first but seemed ok after being held at fast idle for a while, however I think the idle speed is now too slow as it seems to be juddering at around 600rpm, so I'm off to read up on adjusting it. Once this is done, I'm going to sell it.

Wonder if it's got an air leak somewhere? Odd that the idle would suddenly drop. Might explain your other issues too. Perished fuel line perhaps?

Well since I decided just to put a new fuel filter on it, I've had to replace the hoses to and from the filter housing, all the clips, oh and the primer head. Then I had to replace the fuel filter again as the new head takes one with the extra seal in it!

It's probably like this now because the old filter looked to have been the original!

Done a bit more on the A55.

Chopped out the old rusty floorpan.

Knackered chassis leg, which needs at least partial replacement.

Offered up the new 'pan, ready for welding in. Once it's welded to the transmission tunnel and seat box, I can then construct the inner sill, wheelarch and A post around it.

What's left of the A post, which I started to repair before I ran out of steel.

And a bit of inspiration - the passenger side which was slightly worse, all finished and painted :)

The handbrake works well then?

Yesterday was a day of despair - the poorly charging golf's battery finally died, luckily whilst outside the house, so I pushed it out of the way and fired up the Acadiane.

The Acadiane's exhaust decided now was the time to finally go and sounded like a harley davidson all the way to Coventry and back, it didn't run especially nicely either. Nearly deafened me and the inside of the cabin got quite fumey due to the, um, 'superleggera' bulkhead (on the to do list).

Today though, we have more progress! I charged the Golf and came into work with no heater or radio on just in case.

I swapped the drive belt and regulator on the Golf and it's charging again! Very happy. Turns out the bushes on the regulator had worn down to mere nubs:

Cold, cold, wet feet.

Also I've ordered the new exhaust for the Acadiane and it's arriving Monday, but due to the cold / wet / laziness, I'm going to throw it at a local friendly Citroen expert, might even ask him to give it a service too! Then it'll be ready for the first camping trip of the year over Easter.

So now I'm much happier. My shoes and socks are on the radiator and I'm wandering round the office barefoot.

That Saab's nice although I never really got on well with those chrome light surrounds.

Anxiously waiting for a call from the local garage. Had a rear wheel binding yesterday on arrival at work, so phoned the local place to see if they could sort it for me. I replaced the handbrake shoes on one side late last year but couldn't get the drivers side off - predictably it was the drivers side that was binding.

They phoned at 11 to say " we got it off, all the components were just floating around inside - we've welded it back together but the brake cable has stretched". They've managed to get a new cable for me, but sounds like I had a close call - Volvo V70s have quite a habit of the handbrakes coming apart like that (which is why I wanted to fix it myself last year) - but they can cause the entire wheel to lock up. That usually ends in a knackered back plate / axle assembly which is ~£1k new from Volvo.

New shite landing here tonight. Not entirely sure what I was thinking but it was cheap and probably more economical than the 740. And it's utterly dreadful.

Straight over to Cheshire for the latest:

Winter 1-0 Veg Oil

In a thrilling* encounter between the elements and an advanced level of Mingebaggery, the weather ran out winners. The Veg Oil Express failed to proceed twice, the first time going shortly after I literally SQUEEZED MY BULB, the second time it kept running then dying on a corner of an u lit section of a dangerous section of the A56. Oh how I didn't laugh when more bulb squeezing, some proper diesel from a can and copious amounts of swearing all fade to help. My son came out, we went home for the jump leads and a can of Lynx and the MUTTER FICKER started straight up and ran home no bother

This is Knob Head, Granada Reports, Cheshire

Have 50 litres of veg in the back of the car right now.

This week in the boring:

25hrs 7mins driving

1140 miles

64mpg on 50/50 veg/diesel

Posted

I'm wondering if my mingebag exploits are being similarly thwarted purely by the weather. Dropped some extra fossil in it today to thin out the veg in the tank, but I might have an air leak somewhere to complicate matters. Mmmm... chips.

My silver BX has a Lucas pump, but that's ok because my new BX has a Lucas pump. Hmmm. No mingebaggery for me then!
