Hey, at least the bobble colour matches the car.

Today I've spent a few hours in the garden and dug up a South African Rand.  What on earth is that doing in the North East of the UK?

I'm rubbish. Not just at jokes. Mrs DW reported that the Nippa was down on power, especially when it rained lots. I thought "odd, it isn't a Mini, how has it developed Mini-itis?"

It hadn't.

That's the air intake wedged right up against the inner wing. Probably gets a soaking there. Certainly must impact air flow!

How it should be. Seems to have ingested some paint!

Speaking of which, that's what will kill this car. The paint is terrible. Lacquer peel striking all over, and lots of rusty seams now. Should probably paint it. Instead, I've finally ordered some service parts for the service it should have had over 1000 miles ago...

I think you mean the north east of England.

Thank you, Mr Pedant, I do indeed mean England, I am a long way from the North East of the UK.

No offence, but...... (which is always the precursor to something offensive)

I am glad I live over a thousand miles away from you.

If my memory serves me right, thats one balljoint failing on two seperate occasions while driving, brake pads falling out of the caliper while driving and now this....

Are you aware of the concept of basic vehicle maintenance?

I leave suspension and brakes to those more competent that I am, I was not the one to have done any of the work on things that've failed. The subframe showed no signs of there being a problem when we had it up on a lift for the express purpose of checking the suspension. I've covered several thousand miles since then and it's a 200k car, sometimes shit just happens. I'll happily accept a certain amount of responsibility for the problems with the ball joint, the blame for the brake pads though would surely be better pointed at the person who reused fitting kit that should've been replaced? Even then that's something that many people wouldn't think twice about doing.

Usually I'm quite good at recognising an issue that's developing and sorting it/getting it sorted, but this time the development of the issue went from "strange noise at full lock" to "steering feels a bit vague" to thud " steering is incredibly vague" in the space of just a couple of minutes.

Could it have been avoided by more regular checks? Possibly, but it's been less than a month since I last had it looked at, or about 1500 miles. Is that a reasonable timeframe for another in depth inspection? I don't think it is.

The finish adds to the charm - cheaper than a Roger Corman film.

As the weather was nice today and my neighbour had bought the filters oil and plugs for his wagon R, I decided to get on and service it for him..

Luckily it all went OK and it seems it must of been looked after as the plugs and filters didn't look that bad.

Also the bonnet had gone pogweasel pink so I got the buffer and compound out then gave it a quick coat of wax but I doubt it will last long as it was quite bad.

The problem is though I'm no good at charging people and I should of used a hat as I've now got a burnt head lol.

I'm sure it was appreciated.

I used my merc for my uncle's service at the crematorium, year before last, . there was only the one limo ( Vauxhall but not badged as such?) and hearse. I drove my mum, dad and sister following the above and one of the hearse drivers drove my car round to the back of the crem as I was a pall bearer and so busy.

Thought about it - I'd had a deal lined up with Dave for his when I was selling the Smart, and when it came back up if I'd had the settlement through I'd probably just have bought the car rather than tickets.

I probably need to drive one again to remind myself what they're like. Last one I had was an old 740 estate back in 2004ish.

Do you like Fiat Panda's?

Speaking of which I've managed to fix the gear by glueing the bush back in. It seems great going forward but isn't that easy to get in and out of reverse. Oh well at least I can move it now and I don't have to push it in and out of the garage anymore although that is pretty much the only exercise I get.

I think I'm going to have to get a new linkage before I can sell it. They're not that expensive but don't look much/any fun to fit.

Will probably get it mot'd and put it back up for sale. Anyone fancy it/swapzies?

Old square ones with a heavy axle at the back, an extra lever between the seats and two forward-folding canvas covered holes in the roof, yes, but they're out of my budget if they're any good and utterly horrific/dead if they're in my budget!

How much are you after for the Panda? I really should own a 100HP at some point but not sure how ready I am for another Panda :D

Posted

Unfortunately not (richardk) I was meaning my 100hp. I was thinking about some deal with your c5 if not already spoken for.

I'd be after 1000 quids with a years MOT. It's had loads of stuff done to it (see all my moaning on here).

Still cheap for one but I think I missed you having its problems sorted out, was hoping it was still a bit of a project :D

The Rover now has a full compliment of working mirrors.

Turns out the driver's side mirror was bodged in with glue as they're a slight pain to fit. It had a replacement glass stuck on, too - I wondered why the heating element wasn't all that.

The driver's side indicator wasn't quite sitting flush to the wing, I noticed - I took it out to clean around it, and found out why:

33682165115_e58ef14ff1_c.jpg

It doesn't fit at all, and just wobbles around (and falls out presumably) in the hole, so it's got a hair bobble stuffed in there as a seal/spacer holding it snugly in place. It works, albeit sticking out slightly, so back in it went, straighter than before though.

ignorring the fact these are chav blue yours is broken and should look like this

It'll away be a project, seriously I don't think I've spent more money or put more effort into any car I've had!

Broken? Explains a lot.

I'm fairly sure they've been out before as the wings have had a shit blowover at some point, the lower grey on one is noticeably more brown than the rest of the car. The wing tops are a much bluer silver too, and the lacquer is peeling away.

I've no idea why, but every so often I get the urge to want a Smart Car.

And seeing the price some of the early ones are going for...

Thought I'd take advantage of the light evening to fit the new springs on the rear of the Pumpkin.  I was thinking it wouldn't take too long.  Got started at half six, finished at half ten and I still have to put the wheels back on and do up some bolts tomorrow.  Mostly done though.

Still no sign of the Mondeo - I am awaiting a call - I could just ring the garage - but where's the fun in that?

Posted

Had assumed I'd need to do a timing belt on the Sera to fix the noisy water pump.

Assumed wrong. Though I'll do it anyway, I don't need to panic about the pump failing on the drive home and taking the engine with it!

The Omega's boot? Yeah, it's pretty big. FRIDGE COLLECTION CAPER.

Mind you, it would have remained upright in the Honda. That's away for track rod ends (AGAIN) at the moment.

I've just been reminded that when Richey Edwards from the manic Street Preachers disappeared they found his car at the Severn bridge. And that car was the least rocknroll imaginable! Actual pic.

Ah, my 2CV needs to be at the NEC THIS Thursday for the Restoration Show. She will be a shrine for the half-arsed restoration. Visitors will be able to have fun spotting which bits were done professionally, and which shambolic elements I have been responsible for. I'm meant to be fitting Fatmat sound deadening at the show, so I've been trying to clean up all the interior surfaces in readiness.

I'm going to leave the back seat at home, as it'll only get in the way.

For anyone who fancies one, 12v electric oil pumps in Lidl for £12.99. Ideal for those wanky moderns with no sump plug (aldi?)

Went to meet up with Staion of this parish today to collect the roffle Perodua, I haven't done a separate thread as this was a straight drive there and back 200ish miles each way with no trains for sightseeing. To make the journey a whole lot cheaper than taking the Ford Exploder I borrowed the Wilsonx2 Roffle Rover from my mate who has it on long term loan*. Chester was achieved with no issues and a fair bit of hoonage.

Here are the 2 winning tickets  meeting each other

The drive home took slightly longer due to traffic and stopping for kfc munch up but the Nippa did it without complaint, only using just over half a tank of fuel and it didn't rattle Mrs BM to bits at all.

Here it is at home meeting his new big brother

Big thanks to Station for the Nippa, nice to meet you and hope to catch up at Shitefest.

Plans for it are unknown as yet, it needs an mot in a couple of weeks and then who knows. Turbo maybe :D

Just travelled down to London from Leicester in my 406. One injector is chuffing away and i daren't tighten it anymore as the thread isn't great and worried I'll round the bolt. After 70 miles on the m1 I felt the engine was running hot as the heater was burning my feet and only on 22 degrees. It also felt a bit down on power but I could be mistaken. I checked the dipstick and no signs of coolant in there. The reservoir is a bit black though which I don't think it was before unless I'd just not noticed.

This is the longest drive I've been on for a while. Could I have the start of a headgasket going or a water pump failure? The temp guage didn't budge off 90 though. I suppose I'll find out on the drive back tomorrow night!
