Passat earnt it's keep today moving 700kg of gravel over a few runs, shame it's off to its new owner tomorrow to make way for the roffle Felicia

Spent a morning getting the Trafic ready for the Bulgarian registration process

The rules around this vary from one region to another but our local Kat office seems fairly simple, only needing beam deflectors fitting to the headlamps

As we're here for the long term I'd bought some new lhd headlamps to fit

Std front end looking a bit tired

Putting the 2 side by side shows just how faded the originals are

Not much to tbh, swap the height adjustment motors over and that was that

Swapped the Phillips over gave the new lamps a blueish tinge

The old Trafic lights went onto the Vivaro, replacing the cracked and badly glued originals that went on the bin....

Just need to find and clean up the engine number on the block and it's ready to go!

This afternoon i went to take a proper look at the Ital I've been offered...

Its quite rusty so I'm trying to decide if its worth me taking on, bearing in mind that i can't weld... The front wing and inner wing is the worse bit really and will need replacing.

The other side inner is a little better but still needs a patch.

efd3069842dcc6dfe15c7c2e117782d2.jpg

The engine looks a little rusty but after fitting a new battery, cleaning the points and some fresh fuel straight in the carb it tried to fire up! Sadly the choke was jammed and the float needle stuck so it pissed fuel out bit but considering it hasn't been started for about 17 years it run well!

The offside sill will need replacing.

And the nearside not great.

It's very clean under the arches but still need attention.

The floor needs a patch both sides at the front

But its not awful.

229c54aa10559fffcd9ae278d7de8e82.jpg

It comes with a new exhaust.

d5124da1a7920e9f28fb9b54dda71129.jpg

41000 miles from new. No ones sat in it for 17 years so it was a bit cobwebby.

62fbbe844ac216e4a2b699aaf895acd2.jpg

I cleaned the back out back in 1994 when i was 14, it felt strange seeing everyone still in it which i put there.

2c553d6f13e8fc94da8d21969a1843ba.jpg

So thats it... Its a lot of work for something which i don't really need but i still feel its worth it. £650 was spoke about...

Is he paying you the £650 to take it away?

Said goodbye to the donor panda:

post-17396-0-69046200-1492293255_thumb.jpg

Put some 15" Lancia alloys on the 4x4 as the tyres did some smoking whilst pulling the donor onto the trailer.

These were originally on the "show" panda but ended up rubbing on the arches with any weight in the rear.

As the 4x4 is lifted over standard height and has hand built rock slider sills there's a lot more clearance over standard for the bigger wheels - they still look lost in the arches though.

Performance wise the slightly wider tyre grips better and has less bounce with the lower profile although compared side by side the 14's are taller overall to the 15's.

Took it for an evening spin on the M62 and found motorway speeds are much more comfortable, limited only by the racket the roof rack mounted lights cause. In fact I upset a Golf driver at a set of lights and gave very little ground up to an indicated 90mph - I forgot to take the satnav to check the speedo accuracy - certainly that's the furthest the needle has ever travelled.

Car shuffling part of the fleet. I really need to polish that back door on the 2cv too. Drove up to Wrexham in the 2cv Friday and will go back home in the fiat on Tuesday. I've just driven it out for a quick blast to the petrol station to top up with shell's vpower. Guy filling up his modern next to me wanted a chat- he finished restoring a jenson last year and has just bought an Austin 1800.

I've not seen a X1/9 for years & that looks mint.

650 sounds a good price for that van, but it will be hard to sort those inner wings without removing the outers, which are rare and very expensive now!!! Also be prepared to be disappointed with the driving experience - these are wank. Be worth looking to see if it has telescopics on the front as they are a bit less wank admittedly. Plus the teles and brackets are worth ludicrous sums on their own.

∆∆ I beg to differ, these are a delight to drive. Copulation can easily be accomplished in the rear, that's it, the Marina's climax.

I had a quick look and they had grease nipples at the top, would that be trunnions still?. Wings seem to be about £150 but not all that easy to find now. The offside is saveable but the nearside is full of plod and dents and will defiantly need to come off.

That needs loads of work Trig . I'd say that price is a bit steep for so much of a project personally .

See daves volvo 940 raffle post for more info but long story short it's proving expensive to get it home and I'm tight for time atm.

So if anyone wants to borrow it for a while till I get my shit together you'd be doing me a favour.

Failing that I'll need to dispose of it without actually seeing it in the metal which is a shame

I've just sold an old A plus engine for 300 quid which is the least one of the in-line versions is worth. I'd agree that the van looks like it needs quite a lot of work and there's always more than you can see. If you pay someone to weld it I doubt whether the finished vehicle will be worth what the job costs, let alone a respray.

For myself I'd be happy to pay 650 and muddle away at the job; as it is I've got stuck into my Bedford PC and am building a new frame before I can even start the bodywork. I've already wished I'd chosen something like a Marina for its easier availability of bits.

Check your messages, I seem to be in a Volvo mood lately...

Thwarted again! Goddamnit!

Now the SLK gearbox is sorted, the RX8 is getting some attention. Brakes are seized, and it's astounding how much Mazda went cheap on materials on these cars. The survival rate is going to be really low.

Is that a caliper from the rare submersible version of the RX8?

I need myself a new car...

Soon as I sell my modern bmw! The Mrs is all set up with her astra twin top jobbie and I have my van but.. I'm missing something..something to mess about with! I miss my little smart car tbh. I just don't know what to get something unusual I think

I slightly know someone who has had an Rx8 from new. He's told me about other areas where the car left something to be desired, crap dampers which needed replacement not long into his ownership. There was also a slight misfire which lead to a series of escalating problems- shame that a nice car can be spoilt by such things.

Although it seems a lot of money if that were a mk2 escort van you could add easily add a 0 to the end of the price when finished and to be fair all old commercials tend to end up a bit sort after.

Also when was the last time you saw one for sale or on the road?

If you had a use for it or sentimental attachment go for it but try £500 first.

During the great outage of April 2017, I drove the Alfa Spider a whole 1000 miles in 5 days without (contrary to popular advice) breaking down and dying at least once.

I also bought a 145 to restore.

The Honda is still broken.

The most reliable car in my fleet is a GTV with a knackered gearbox.

Good times.

Smart Roadster? A Smart ForTwo that's been squashed down and out a bit. All the same under pinnings but more fun to drive.

Alternatively fulfil your inner boy racer with a Clio 172/182 before they're all either fucked/barried or silly expensive. Currently they're fucked/barried or well looked after but all are cheap!

145 is definitely an itch I have to scratch - was it one of the recently advertised ones on ebay?

The 1.6 falls into higher tax band so may as well have the 2.0!

During the recent outage I've helped deliver a Panther Solo to its new owner in Shropshire, he purchased the car at the NEC auction. What a bit of kit that was, 800 miles on a '92 K plate, Cossie lump and 4wd.

I'm busy getting the Kallista finished for its new owner and I'm considering the fate of the black Bini Cooper.

Glad we're back to normality, I've missed this place......

The Rover's key refused to turn when I got in it to go home last night. Got out, wouldn't work in the lock either. Then suddenly it moved in a bit and locked and unlocked the car. Get in, doesn't turn in the ignition barrel. Then suddenly it did.

Weird.

My well cared for low mileage rover appears to have been not particularly cared for back in 2014...

Looks a bit better now though.

I dropped it off for head gasket repairs tonight so hopefully I'll be using it soon. It was very nice to drive.

It's layups like that that bugger the HGs up on the D-Series. Mine was like that for a bit I gather, it got pressed back into service and cooked itself. If they're used regularly they go forever.

A well sorted one is a cracking car, great carrying capacity, comfy and fun to drive too. If there's anything you need to know, ask me, Vulgalour, or KruJoe.

Oh, and the HBOL doesn't cover the engine - but there's plenty of D Series gen on the web, pirated Civic manuals are easily available on the web.

The Primera had been getting all kinds of attention; last week I replaced the back box and welded up the inner rear arches and the back of the sills which secured a new MOT.

I was so delighted I treated the old girl to a new set of boots and an air con 'recharge' although according to the lad it had double the amount of gas in it should have had. Regardless seems to be working now which is a joy...

Got a spare key? it's probably worn.
