As of 1st of the month the ex Brookjm Land Rover is back on the road .

It's had loads of work including

Clutch , slave cyl and reinforce release arm

Electronic ignition and new cap , plugs and leads

Got the leaking exh manifold hot spot tig welded up

Front discs , pads , wheel bearings

Front shocks and turrets

Steering box and drop arm ball joint

Chassis plated as reqd , new gear box x member then chassis cleaned and dinitroled

New exmoor mats

Rear brake pipes , wheel cylinders and shoes

Genuine centre and rear exhaust

New seat belts

Handbrake cable

Fixed wiring bodges so now all heaters and lights work

New fuel tank , filler neck , cap and lines

Prob other little bits but that's depressing enough

The best bit was getting the bulkhead corners properly repaired and getting the paint polished and touched in .

Oh and 5 brand new wheels with new Michelin 7.50 tyres

Not looking bad for a 30 year old Landy !

Oh I forgot it's had halogen headlights put on too . Damn good they are !

And two new calipers

Posted

I hope the next upgrades are a steering wheel lock and a tracker!

Posted

That looks ace. They do look better with proper wheels and tyres fitted rather than the titchy things most 90s (including mine) seemed to have from the factory.

After realising i left the passenger window down for over a week on on my celica the passanger seat and carpet got soaked. so i pulled it out dried it out gave the seats and carpets a good scrub with some carpet cleaner, and gave the plastics a good clean, as it was getting a bit funky after being sat for over six months, i think i came up pretty well for a 170 000 miles.

Yeh it's got a tracker . Locking wheel nuts are on the cards too . It originally came with 205 tyres but these 5 new wheels and tyres came up for 300 quid so I couldn't refuse that . It actually makes the speedo within 1mph of the gps speed!

This guy just won my 5 series on ebay, anyone care to place bets on the likelihood of him turning up?

If he does please compliment him on his afro

1960s Gartcosh steel appears to melt differently to Zintec when you're trying to weld the two together.

I'm impressed really. As someone with a similar hued hair I've spent most of my life cutting it as short as is considered decent.

The heater core on the Dart started leaking months ago after I did a cooling system flush with CLR. Since then I just bypassed the heater matrix and called it a job done. Now that the cold weather has arrived I decided to fix it.

The entire heater box is held in place by 4 studs and removal was pretty straight forward except for snapping 50% of the studs.

Anyway I disassembled the entire box and the blend doors and levers are all pretty rusty. I decided to try Evapo-Rust on the blower motor mount

Not only did is clean this up but the all the blend doors, clips, bolts, screws and levers are now rust free. New foams and seals are on order from Detroit Muscle Technologies who specialise in Mopar, AMC and Ford body gaskets.

I've got to rig up the new heater duct hose, Chrysler in their wisdom used 2 special hoses one that's 2 1/2" diameter on one end and 2" the other, the second hose is 2 1/2" and 2 1/4". Obviously these are NLA and NOS ones are really expensive so I've ordered some 2 1/4" hose and I'll hit the plumbing section at the hardware store and see what I can come up with.

Last October I bought a 1989 Mercedes 300SE which had been laid at a farm since 2008 and it went though the MOT surprisingly easily, despite looking crusty around the OSF tie rod mount, a favourite rot point. Rather than fix it in warm summer nights I chose to drive it around instead so now I'm sorting it as and when weather , light, family etc allow.

I've patched the arch/bulkhead/ARB mount under the battery tray (balls ache) and today I moved onto the tie rod. Pic is of the wheel side, the inner is crap to do with access to clean up with a grinder awkward plus bonus burns from being laid under it and trying to weld at arms length.

Sorry, only after pic, I didn't take a before but I'm sure most of you know what rusty holes look like!

Did a full major service on my/Dad's X Type yesterday. It's not due plugs for another 40K, but the 6 of them and the gaskets for the manifold were cheap-cheap so why not. Proper Jaaaaag filter after finding out the hard way that aftermarket ones don't fit. Fuel filter was a bit of a bugger. Changed the ATF as well, had some left so changed the PAS fluid too. Discs and pads all round were done during the week, and a brake fluid change.

DROWNED the big fella in snow foam today, top and bottom. MoT on the 21st.

Dug the 2cv out for the first time in 3 months. Started first time and ran perfectly, albeit blowing slightly on full power. Note that full power is not breaking the law in a 2cv!  30 miles later went back to its garage. Will really try to use it more this year.

Painted the moped exhaust, now looks new instead of rusty and scabby. Reuslt!

On another note a rather eccentric customer cam in the other day (I work for the parts department in a main dealer) and asked if I could recommend a pre 1994 car! I doubt that anyone else there could even have named one! Certainly had to clarify that couldn't give an official answer, but she may end up coming this way. She certainly livened up that day!

**Calling all Mk1 Sierra owners**

A scrappys near mine is cubing this Mk1 on Monday - does anybody need spares before it goes?

330fbrs.jpg

It's at AS Car Spares, Red Lodge, near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk.

Phone Number is 01638 751327.

Cortinaboy of here bought it for the engine and gearbox, it's been in the field for years.

Not the most fun weekend I've had with my cars.

Mk1 AS colour schemed Panda went to Stoke to tame mechanics for service and then selling.

Facelift Uno was picked up by fellow Panda enthusiast who is taking it to France to live in a barn.

I leave space outside my house for the first time in 12 months and some cheeky fucker parks there!

Have a depressing picture, only the green car in the middle remains.

Oh yes, fleet reduction is going really well.  I've just bought an Alfa Romeo.

Don't get too excited though, it's not really shite (yet) - a 10-year-old Brera.

Edit:  And don't worry, the potential Gamma purchase is still on.

I'm merely borrowing enormous brand new cars to fill up my driveway. The MG GS is quite a lot larger than a Nippa.

I've only driven it a few hundred yards so far, and the auto gearbox already seemed quite confused.

Nice, be good to hear how you get on with the GS after enjoying the MG3 you had the other month.

Noticed last night i got a leak... then woke up to lots of pas fluid on the floor, luckly my mate had given me a 2nd hand replacement , bastard 8mms hidden in narrow gap, and they look like never been undone so as i needed it for work and was enough give in the pipes so just cabled the replacement.

I can post more pictures at the weekend if there's any interest - I'm picking it up on Thursday night then driving it home down the M4 on Friday.

Cleaning those alloys is going to be a right laugh, eh?
