Went to look at some Jaguars today. Mostly X-Types as it happened. I've never seen so many in one place. Not that I got any phone pics to prove it.

I did spot a car with CX door mirrors, Sierra side indicators and Rover R8 rear lights though.

This is the new F-Pace. It doesn't look very Autoshite. I saw another one (a sporty one in white) on my way home!

This is more Autoshite. A £500 S-Type that was for sale. Somehow, I didn't buy it, even though I'd left common sense (ie Mrs DW) at home.

I don't think X-Type owners are very experienced at doing shows.

This thing was deliciously shonky. More E-Types should have scabby paint like this.

Went with a mate to a national tyre chain, mong behind the desk tried his best to flog him tyre guarantees/unicorn horns etc  etc. I did happen to notice the egits had a piece of paper on the wall behind the desk with their autodata log in and password clearly displayed...well it would have been rude not to note it down wouldn't it  :-D

Following the cancellation of the Pride of Longbridge and blocked M40 I opted for a trip to an American Autoshow at Northampton with a friend in his new Mustang GT.

Again spoilt by the weather with a low turnout and nobody but the Jeeps really able to park on the grass!

Car of the show for me was this Buick.

Managed to get a rare half day of car time to make a start on finishing the welding in the cortina . I walked into the lockup and immediately knocked my welding bottle over shearing the regulator off at the bottle . What a ball sack.

It wasn't Totally wasted as I spent the time making up the bits of metal to go in the remaining holes . I also did some other non weld related activity like strip the seats down so can weld in the new mounts and make up some new jacking points . Need to buy a new bastarding regulator now though .

I think that double-digger shot shows why the Cofton Park lot were right to cancel PoL!

was going to go to Lincoln's Big mini day tomorrow,

but that would mean going to the FiL to see how much water is slopping round inside that white, rusty, ungrateful, and frankly at the moment hated PoS Metro.

We didn't make it.

Welcome to Springtime in Yorkshire....

Weather here is shit as well. Yesterday it poured down all day and today, while not actually raining, is cold (I was in my shorts and 'T' shirt three days ago as it was so hot!) damp and windy. I hate it. This weather absolutely kills me and just about every part of me aches/hurts.

Consequently, I have hid in the flat apart from needed trots out with the mutts. I am all huddled up in a duvet in front of the telly, bored and getting depressed more with each passing second.

So, I have just made myself go out and play with the Dollop - washed the wheels (brake dust is just sooooooo last year dahlink!) and did a couple of other bits that were small, easy but still needed doing. I feel better for doing something. Depression is like that, it is self fulfilling, you are depressed so don't do anything, but doing nothing depresses you even more!

'Tis a bugger!

Mixed weather here. Very wet this morning and grey most of the day but brilliant sunshine now.

For cleaning wheels I recommend provalet bilberry wheel cleaner. I've only just started using it, but it's fantastic and effortless.

Old bird trying to steal a different (canberra) old bird

Slight grump as we weren't allowed to sit up front in the Vulcan as they had had too many bits stolen, who the fuck does that? got to sit in the navigators seat and have a good poke around though.

At the risk of being flamed, here goes....

Bought the ex Chompy/Eddy/Panhard MG ZT a short while ago. I actually like it very much. So much so that I am going to spend a lot of time and what little money I have on it. It deserves it I think....

Ordered new side impact sensors from ebay (£19), new undertray (£38), and booked it in for belts changed. Chompy has sorted a lot of the problems so feel confident. Have touched up the stone chips and various scratches. Assigned a personalised registration number that I bought cheapish on ebay. (A9RCE).

After a day spent claying and polishing the paint it looked lovely. Just got a feeling that this could be a great car given time and care.... I will see!

I don't  think anyome would flame you for spending money and fixing a model that is increasingly scrap fodder these days, the site is about spending large sums on cars that are not really woth it to the majority of the population.  Then selling them at a massive loss (copyright Wilsonx2)

If you said you were fixing it with baling twine and baby wipes in order to save 37p on the proper part you might get some stick.

Have you sold the prelude yet?

Mended the Jag today so its actually ready for its test to see what it fails on, as all the certain failures are sorted.

I am glad Volksy came over to help as he saved me a load of hassle as he found a forum post that suggested going in via a hole rather than opening the module box.

Twas still a pain though as the solder wouldn't stick, it just kept rolling into balls and rolling off but eventually it sort of worked and when we started up the car the abs light was off and my stability was apparently under control.

Result.

Its also had a new indicator stalk as the lights wouldn't work (they would only work on Auto) and the new tyres supplied kindly by JohnK.

Now we will see what is wrong with it that isn't obvious.

Good work sorting the Jag Scotty!

Its probably not totally sorted yet. Will book it in for a test this week and see if it needs owt else. Hopefully not much though, looking forward to getting it back on the road. If it needs some fettling I think I might just chuck it at a mechanic to do as long as the jobs ain't too big.

I was thinking of selling the Sera, so I mentioned this on the Sera FB group. I've just got an email from a Dutch bloke wanting to send me money so he can come over and drive it back to Holland.

H-imp, did you ever get to the bottom of the noise you thought was chain/tensioner rattle?

They're great cars, I'd love to have one as a daily if it wasn't for the petrol and that.

Drat. I fear I've missed my chance to own a Sera. Mostly by constantly being skint. At least I did get to drive one once.

That was the gold Jag that Volksy has. I spoke to the Jag specialist about it when I had it though and they said that if you just change the top tensioners you still get a slight rattle sometimes but its incredibly unlikely to let go. Due to the cost and effort needed to do them all they suggested just doing the top ones if I was worried but I sold it instead as I bought the lop sided Xantia.

They may have already been done on it, I never checked and don't think he has either (I'm not even sure if it still does it or how often) but it seems fine, touch wood.

DW, I reckon Seras are at the bottom of their curve now so I don't think you're too late yet. Good ones seem to go for £1-3k and cheap ones from £500

There was a girl on the Facebook page last week saying prices are going up steeply. She was selling hers for a lot.

They really are good fun though. I would love another.

Forgot to relate last night's Because French episode. Was giving some friends a lift. I unlocked the XM, surprisingly the blipper worked. Got in and it promptly locked itself. It then deadlocked itself. I was now trapped inside the car and Mrs DW and my friends outside. Of course, the blipper now did nothing and as it had deadlocked, I couldn't just operate the door lever.

There was much swearing and lots of blipper pressing. Eventually, it unlocked and I quickly opened my door. Which was good as it had immediately tried locking again. Now the locks all started to go crazy due to the open door. I inserted the key in the door and turned the lock and all seemed well. Which I think suggests that the driver's door is at fault. Bloody cars.
