I need to try one of these. I've never driven a non-A-Series Citroen with the flat twin installed.

If you are around Buckingham give me a try to see if I/it are about, you are welcome to give it a go.

My Visa twin pot seems happy at 65 mph with spells up over 70 mph but this works out at 4660 rpm @65 mph and 5160 @72 mph, am I beating it to death at this or is this normal for this engine to rev so high cruising?

The photo is it resting at the M25 services, not because it wanted a rest but I needed a comfort break. It started first go hot without any clue it had been working hard.

SWMBO's Subaru failed it's mot: rear subframe needs welding, brake pipe, drop link, wheel bearing, exhaust hanger welding. As it is due a cambelt and the immobiliser is playing up, maybe this is time to trade it in (with a month of mot left to run)?

So I was mulling all this over while the tester was completing his test screen, and he starts swearing and shouting at the computer - he had clicked on pass rather than fail! He reckons there is no way to correct the error and didn't want to let the car go until it WAS roadworthy as he had just given it a ticket. He was in a real panic about this, offered to do all the work for nothing to prove he wasn't scamming me. This is a proper old fashioned rural garage who have been "on my side" for years so I don't think he was trying it on, but a good discount will be welcome as I have already spent £250 there this week on mot and belts for the van.

Proper stupid this new mot computer system, if you really can't undo a simple wrong click!

All work done: £127 including vat for bearing (Legacy is SO quiet now!), drop link, brake pipe and welding.

Good job something was cheap this month after two MOTs, a cam belt,  three insurances and 3 taxes. How did all our car bills get in step like this?

If ever there was an engine which loves revs and load, it's the little Cit twin. I've yet to find a tougher engine, their capacity for work is quite amazing. You just have to make sure it's serviced correctly by someone who knows - using the correct oil (Total 15w40) is a good start, as is making sure the oil cooler is clean. When travelling flat out, lifting off every 30 minutes or so can be wise - the sump oil can creep upwards due to the vacuum effect of the breather/filler neck.

The Visa version added a crank bearing forwards of the camgear and alloy barrels (Nicasil lined). It's even tougher, cooler-running and smoother. Neglect usually kills them, otherwise they're good for 200,000+ miles when driven hard.

I hope you bought 6 months tax to then buy 12 months in March and push the tax bills away from the Mot bills.

Todays news, the garage wish to remove £400 from my wallet for a new EGR valve on the XC90!!

That was a painful phone call.

Do I really need one?

So, early finish and back at Fatha_JohnK towers.

Here's the new MV6. Feel a bit of a twat for some certain features on it. BUT, hear me out on this one. The previous owner was on the Omega owners forum and I'm aware of the work that has gone into this car. It drives lovely.

It has black wheels - I can live with that -

It has this exhaust. But, it is actually fairly quiet and just adds a nice burble at idle and giving it some beans. It can stay:

Has tints - it's film and damaged, they can go

Here it is with the ex-JohnK, now Fatha_JohnK Omega 2.2 and the JohnK wankermobile (now for sale if you want to be a wanker too?)

Pretty happy with it overall though:

In non-car related news, put an offer in on a nice bungalow last week and it has been accepted.

Can fit 5 cars on the drive plus garage but I need to do the loft conversion before we move in and new kitchen etc to keep me busy.

Plus points - it backs into the local working men's club I frequent. Knocked money off the price for th inconvenience but what the vendor doesn't know is it is my local. Club committee have agreed I can cut through the wall to put gate from my back garden to the club. Which, inadvertently gives me 1 extra parking space when I park the car at the club after work and need to leave it there because I've had a couple too many!

Had to cancel the service on the car booked for tomorrow as the paintwork, while done and a superb job, is the wrong colour!  I told them the colour, told them where the paint code was and still is, and they have sprayed it green okay but with a blue tinge! My car is anything but blue....

They are doing it again.

I didn't want to take it away as once away from them, they will inevitably dither and prevaricate about getting it back in to re-do the thing. Worse, I have already paid them.!!!!

Been trying to ring the chap I deal with all day and he wasn't answering, I absolutely hate that! There's obviously a problem just let me know and we can sort it out. I found it hard to stick to my 'fuck it' attitude as I was driving up there and was close to getting in a right old mood. I didn't though and it will get sorted, just a pain in the arse that there's a delay. At least the paint will be nice and thick!

Is it attached to any car that won't give me crippling backache?

Ford Galaxy and I heard a rumour about some Mitsubishi if you want to keep away from the mk4 Golf and Piserat type things.

Nice Omega John. GR11 for being Pat and Carl off Road Wars.

The Cavalier passed its MoT today without work, which really surprised me and my mechanic chap. I'm still getting the front shocks replaced though and welding to sort the corrosion advisories. Such a relief that is!

Had the day off work so tinkered with the Daimler, adding loads of gun gum to the exhaust bodge so atleast i can drive it to a repair place without going deaf. Also got a pic of the pub landlords together before the Granada heads off to its new home in a few weeks.

XJ6 repairs on the cheap. This car is just turning into a series of bodges, as I suspected it would....

Updated car spreadsheet.

When it's sorted, the Hearse will be #160.

And I will have a running total over £180,000 spent JUST on buying cars. Not adjusted for inflation or income when cars have sold, I'll get around to that one day but most have been write off if you consider maintenance spends (i.e. £1500 spent on Volvo that sold for £1500 having cost £7K).

You're right in that the VAG TDI was fitted to some Mitsubishi things, but it was the 2.0 PD TDI I'm sure.

I quite fancy an old Caddy TDI and a Sharalaxy would be useful.

You have me well beaten on the purchases as my total inc Mrs Cyl is only 131. May I play my trump card, I have also had 44 new company cars and 32 used company cars?

I have never added the purchase prices up and as they are hand written records some thirty plus years old it will be a big job.

The bit I am not good at is selling them!

Dont fuckin tempt me..buying a shotter would be much more entertaining than 2 days at a conference.

alas, flight up is paid for, and cx needs alternator done- so thats where spend should go

Bollocks, for the first time in 12 or so years the old Benz let me down an hour and a half ago, pulling out from work and one of the bloody half shafts snapped in half.

Course sods law dictates i've got the local screen bloke coming round to fit a new one in the Landcruiser so was going to use the Merc tomorrow too, now got to nick the Mrs' Scooby...don't want to mess the screen lad about he's a good bloke who does a fair deal, much better than the robbin bleeders who blanket advertise.

they are are a lush motor those v6 omega's, had a friend whose dad had a string of them as company hacks when they were new in both 2.5 and 3.0 flavours.

the last  one was a jewish racing beige mv6 one, cannot remember if it was an elite, or an ultima (that could have been a scorpio though.)

i remember it having a PHONE BUILT INTO THE RADIO!!

worked well too, such a fine car that was unjustly overlooked cos it didn't have the "right" badge on its nose.

top buying sir!

Depends on how define company cars works - I've counted my new lease cars in the total and costs.

I'm also not good at selling them in the sense of always losing money. But having to get rid of them is a constant (was, anyway) - can you imagine still having all of those cars? It'd be wonderful. I'd still have all of my CXs and XMs, and RWD Vauxhalls...

Prices I can usually do from memory, though I couldn't add them all up in my head. Terrifyingly I can, once I remember the car, generally remember what I spent on it too.

What the hell BMW costs £1500 a month? Even a 645i Droptop used to be under £500 a month, hell, a Bentley FootballerGT is under £1K/month. Is it an i8?

How is the hearse fundraising going anyway ? I might have to wash it this week as it does get filthy sitting down the yard.

Company cars were ones allocated to me for my personal use sometimes for a few days other times for a few months. These were the cars I had to pay company car tax for, if I ever get round to adding up the cost of buying I am not sure how you could include them?

When I worked in the motor trade and drove hundreds of cars and bought countless cars in PX, from auctions, other garages, from traders and the public for the garages I worked for, but I have counted none of those. Even the one night stands such as borrowing the MD brand new Volvo 760GLE for a night and taking my brother out is not counted (nothing was ever said about him not being to leave the car phone alone).

Maybe I am afraid of making a loss but I don’t like parting with cars and the phase “do I want a few hundred pounds or do I want my xxxxâ€Â, means I justify not selling much. We still have 35.9% of all the cars we have bought for ourselfs. Trouble is that means neglect and far too many project cars. I have friends who think I need help, I say I just need more indoor parking!
