Can't be bad for £100! What a bargain. They've got a proper low ratio transfer box, so aren't as 'soft road' as some. I did consider one myself but the lack of ground clearance put me off.

I lobbed a deposit on this today:

It's getting a full new test put on it Monday afternoon and I pick it up in the evening. :D

I can't wait!!!

840 :)

It's lovely, drives excellently, none of the fabled 'shimmying' either. Chuffed! 8)

Trigger: they're quite a competant car them, a little dull but for £100 that's a massive bargain.

Mike: That looks stunning, what engine is in it?

It's the 4 litre V8 Billy - starts and runs fine though, no smoke, and at 148K I think any nikasil issues would have shown themselves by now!

Looks bloody lovely and can't imagine one in a better colour! Was it a local find?

Did you buy it off a truck driver by any chance? A lad that used to come to our works lived near you somewhere and had one exactly like that.

It was off the nicest old boy ever! There used to be another round here the same colour though...

It was mental, I've never been anywhere like it, I was regailed with tales of his life on the riviera, past Ferraris, Rollers, Mercs etc. A proper Gent too, he was getting rid of the 840 as his Mrs was giving him earache and he'd rather keep his plane!

What everyone wants to know is did he have white moccasins on?

My friendly local garage had the Alfa 75 up on their ramp today for a poke around, so I went over for a look. It's survived its year and a bit stood on grass amazingly well - the only bit of welding is a 2"x2" patch in the passenger footwell, which I knew about anyway. Rear brake discs and pads are all in good order too, although they haven't tried the handbrake yet. It does need four tyres though as the ones on it are completely perished and out of shape - the garage had one in stock (195/60x14) and the local scrappy said he could do three part-worns for £15 each, which isn't too bad. So hopefully, unless anything hideous and hitherto hidden comes to light, it should be back to burbling round the roads of Norfolk in the relatively near future.

Used my new hydraulic lift thing to take the engine and box out of the spares 240 i'm breaking up. It did the job but it took an hour or so, with a normal engine hoist it would have taken 10 mins (it was all ready to just lift out) Lift, move, lift move, lift, remove gearbox, move a bit more. Its an awesome bit of kit though, it has an extending platform that you can slide things onto, lift a bit then retract the platform onto the wheels to move it around. The platform goes up to about 5ft. I have a largish safe to move with it, which it looks absolutely ideal for.

I got it off ebay, it was in the wrong category so I got a bit of a bargain (I think) After these little jobs are done I think i'll put it back on with some better pics and in the correct category, see if I can make a few quid and acutally but a proper engine hoist!

The engine and box are borked so its a case of just scrapping them really- thats why I wasn't very careful and snapped the fan blades off!

I know of a Renault 25 being sold similar to this one:

It’s got a few more miles on the clock and not as clean but still in good condition, and just wondered if anyone can offer advice on what to look out for on these. I’ve read the engines are pretty robust but I presume the legendary French electrics are the main issue. He’s asking a grand which sounds over the odds price-wise considering this one was up for £895.

I’ve always wanted one, preferably a mk1, and this sounds too good to miss. As usual timing isn’t great as money is tight but these don’t come up too often :)

They're marvellous barges. Wouldn't say they're any worse than much else for electrical issues at that age. Biggest problem with these was the auto gearbox, which isn't that robust. A manual makes great sense.

Thanks Ian I wasn't aware of that, hopefully it's a manual then. Just awaiting some more details on the old beast.

Got the BX working again, but not really sure how. I think I must have cleared an air lock in the fuel system. Went well on a test drive, so we'll see if it wants to start tomorrow...

The 147 has gone to pastures new, at last. This means I'll have to start on the lookout for interim shite for Mrs S whilst I sell the 156, just so we don't have to rush into finding it's long term replacement.

Can't remember the last time we could get both cars on the drive!

25's are great cars, engines are good, gearboxes can be a weak point (autos have a deserved reputation for failure).

The're also pretty rust free, just check it's not going rotten somewhere hard to see and harder to fix!

If you need parts they share their powertrains with Mk1 Espaces, which are a bit easier to find being broken up or in yards.

By the way, Warren: how did your day go after the interrupted sleep and the early start?

The good thing about my job is that there's a bed you can have an hours sleep on while your waiting to be unloaded!

Today was five drops around Birmingham and was great fun. I even managed to get some overtime! Over the counter, non drowsy painkillers seem to be working ok and true to the agencies word, I didn't once have to handball any freight. :D

Easy life! If I can get 50 or so hours a week in I can see some fleet changes coming to my shite collection soon.

You'd love the job, Eddy!
