First proper collection effort today ! Got to cross the border and everything. Roughly 6 hours each way. Better get on with it then

You've bought a car in Fife?

Was due to take BMW in for MOT. Can't believe it's been just over a year since I had it. Sadly, due to hire car and bloody work giving me an unregistered Mercedes A160 to deliver to Loughton yesterday despute it supposedly being my day off, I couldn't make the MOT. I had a hire car which was due to be picked up today so MOT is now rescheduled for Friday.

I'm viewing/buying a car in 15 mins but I've got here early and can see it....It looks good body wise from what I can see. Admittedly I am stood some 100m away.

Seen as nobody else has asked, what was it and have you bought it?

Thanks for the link. That looks like a pretty late one too, I thought they introduced the Megane that year.

Someone I know* had a go in my mum's Bini today on some private* roads.

ePAS is a load of rubbish - standard steering stupidly light and oversensitive - they had to use sport mode for the steering to feel like it was actually attached to the wheels.

The accelerator pedal is hinged to the floor and is not comfortable.

Cramped to drive - you're either way too far from the screen or there's no space for your legs. Feels absurdly high up for a small car and like there's big thick lumps of something around you, like driving wrapped in a duvet. Isolated from the road and everything around you.

Shit visiblilty.

Good luck using the HVAC etc while driving, too many buttons mostly just out of reach.

Feels lethargic at low speed, high speeds feel much slower than they really are.

Handling good.

Ride quality, eh.

Better than a Corsa D, but not good. They found it oddly precise and predictable, vaguely amusing but too far disconnected from the road.

Just got back from a break on the Isle of Wight. I had known that there are classics everywhere - Minors, Mgs etc due to the low mileages most people do, but the amount of shite everywhere is incredible. My 2002 Clio was the most desirable and valuable car in most car parks! Highlights included a Toyota Carina II, Megane saloon, Liana, Saxos, Nissan Terrano II etc!  Well worth a visit if you like old crap like I do!

Oh, and it is a lovely place to visit as well!

All of the spots you mention are more desirable than a Clio II.

Today me and captain_tel have mostly been being gluttons for punishment:

33070463086_ed55736862_h.jpg

The wind blew the TV aerial off the roof, so predictably we turned to the classifieds for fun. An ad on Gumtree was found: a P38 with duff air suspension, not unreasonably priced at £650. We know P38s, we said. Between us, we will have an idea of what needs fixing, we said. Let's just go and have a look..

The seller was duly messaged. But the next day, no reply was forthcoming. So captain_tel decided to ping him another message offering him £400 "to wake him up".

The reply came forth: "When are you picking it up?"

Fuck.

A fairly relaxed collection was organised, only an hour each way. Below are the results:

It's mega rough, and a base model DT to boot! The springs are fucked, the heater is fucked, the electric windows are fucked, the central locking is fucked, and it's wearing a gopping winch bumper. I have never heard such a cacophony of beeps when starting a vehicle. It even throws up warnings for both the electric seats - which it hasn't got. The best part is we have absolutely no requirement for another one of these and even the parts we can cannibalise for mine are limited.

So all in all, a great success.

Just what you were needing Tam. I wasn't far off with my guess then.

I went to the London classic car show today. Mmmmmm some people have too much money to burn I think judging by the crap for sale (sold). Nothing exciting to see really as it was all high end dealers showcasing stuff that is way overpriced. The one silver shadow there was priced up at 22k. I am sure if I spent 20k on mine it would be a better car. At least it was fun taking the Porsche and mixing it with the Audi's on the M4. They don't like it when they get the subtle flash of the headlights.

No idea what this was but it was fairly interesting as the front track was so much narrower than the rear, so looked fun.

You should see their reaction when the flash of the headlights is coming from a battered blue Rover 200.

300UNK is coming up as a WB Special.  1200cc so would imagine Coventry Climax powered.

I bought this yesterday.  I'd looked at a few (admittedly slightly newer) when looking for a car for my dad, and quite liked the look of them.  This one came up on eBay a few weeks back, I stuck a low bid on it just to keep an eye, and not unexpectedly was comprehensively outbid.  Rather more unexpectedly, I then got a second chance offer a week or so later, so yesterday evening after work saw me getting the train to just outside Nottingham to pick it up.

post-190-0-25399000-1488055097_thumb.jpg

Not a huge amount to say about it really.  It's a 1.6 SE so reasonably well equipped (electric windows all round, electric sunroof, CD player, aircon (don't know if that works but probably will as Hondas normally do)).  It goes well enough and seems decent on fuel, and I like the dash-mounted gear lever.

The seller turned out to be a chap in his 70s, and the car has a few giffer-type scrapes, but nothing too bad.  He did mention in the listing that it'd need two front tyres for its next MOT.  He wasn't lying - it needs two front tyres before it next goes out on the road.  They are utterly shagged.  Also when I picked it up the offside dipped beam and sidelight bulb had gone, but thankfully they're a piece of piss to change on these (literally 30 seconds for the sidelight) so that was soon done.  The code for the radio was in the handbook wallet, so that was another easy fix.  Now I just need to find a nice cheap pair of 195/65/15s.  Oh, and a wheeltrim for the nearside front.

PILLOCK you can clearly see one says A666HGF and the other says K666HGF they not twinz at all!

Is that an orange Opel Coupe?

No. It's the original Vauxhall VXR concept. They did build a running version too. Think that one has sadly been destroyed.

Princess has a long boot. I have short arms. This is not a winning combination when the bootlid is jammed shut and won't release. Especially since the rear seats don't fold. It's been ages since I dealt with one of these problems!

Had a little bit of free time today so did a quick oil and filter change on the MGV ( easier to say and type than MG ZR EXPRESS VAN) As I was shunting cars about I spied another variation on the theme, couldn't resist getting a quick pic...post-4673-0-90850400-1488059188_thumb.jpg

I went to Race Retro, and I saw this.

Take a look at @dollywobbler's Tweet: https://twitter.com/dollywobbler/status/835557894724726784?s=09

What I should of got a picture of was the mk2 Safrane 2.5 I saw as I was leaving Weston Super Mare this morning. Or the rough old nail of a 928 round the back of theExcel. Here is another pic of the Vauxhall I think there was something about it in a recent edition of classic and sportscar.

I really like the quirkyness of these Tatra's, maybe I should start looking for Eastern block stuff rather than all the French tat I normally lust after.
