Dealer: "Hello Sir. We're just giving you a ring to tell you that your car won't be ready until Friday lunchtime. We aren't happy with the exhaust, so we're going to put a new one on it."
Me: "Oh OK."

Dealer: "If you like, we can lend you a car in the meantime"

Me: "Right. What sort of car?"

Dealer: "It's an MG6 diesel."
Me: "Actually, it's only a couple of days, so don't worry.See you Friday"

Don't suppose it has/had/evidence of a row of fog lamps across rear panel doubling up as brake lamps? Or was picked up from somewhere near Worcestershire?

:-)

I don't believe so but i can't be sure. It did have a boot spolier and a fiberglass "Transam RSR" chin spolier on the front at one point though!

Holiday at the end of the month will mean driving about 1000 miles in a week - thinking about bottling out of taking the Scenic and renting a car instead

Talk me out of it, Autoshite!

I'd have said yes just to have a crack in one with no personal £'s needed!

I had a local guy come to look at the Rover last night. It turns out he lives about 20 doors down on my street and has an Armstrong Siddeley!

I've never seen it right enough but on closer inspection (i.e. looking over his front wall) he has an XJ6 and an mx-5 in his front garden.

If it FTP, you could just get the recovery driver to take it to the nearest scrapyard and then go drop you off at a car rental place? ;)

This was interesting at 70mph in the outside lane.

The one downside of having a few cars as well is tool sharing. I have a jack, but no wheel brace in the boot. Fortunately a friend is coming to the rescue !

Shit! Is your friend bringing you new pants too?

Incidentally, I parked next to a XC90 at the garage. Now the Gooner isn't a small car, but the XC90 makes it look like a Ka.

EDIT: LOL I just realised I parked it in the Volvo Estimation and Diagnostics bay. Very fitting.

I like City Motors, they gave me my radio code for free because 'it's nice to see old cars getting used'.

Scary indeed. That's a proper blowout.

Let's have some cosy Nippa news to calm down. Managed to drag myself away from Ebay long enough to replace the temperature sender on the Nippa, as well as give it new air and oil filters and fresh oily oil.

Manky old sensor.

Result! Temp gauge has been barely moving of late.

I got the engine warm before I started the job, to give me half a chance of getting the sender out. Of course, it got quite exciting when it did come out, and I was glad I was wearing two pairs of gloves... idiot.

That at least allowed me to bung the new sensor in and restart the warm engine. Idle speed noticeably dropped. I think that confirms that the ECU also takes a read from this sensor. It was pushing the limits of richness on the MOT and had been idling a bit higher than it should have been for a while.

So, that's sorted for another year then, though I would like to give the braking system a going over this year. Perhaps new fluid would be a good idea, and I need to check the calipers/pads/shoes.

New 12 month ticket on the Accord today, 3 years in a row without a single advisory.

She's looking pretty tidy as well for a 17 year old.

Do we think it's fucked ?

I do think I need to check rest of tyres and their date code. Tread is great on them all but I'm wondering if they're old tyres now ...

I suggest you swiftly procure something even shitter on minimal cost to do the week in, and if it manages it, you've bought a winner. If it bites the dust, there's rental cars and/or the magnificent men in their yellow machines and you still have the Scenic to come home to

Ok, ok. I think I'm getting the hint. Once my towing needs are dealt with, I think I may have to give one of these a go. I do like the styling.

A few weeks ago I looked on my CCTV camera while I was at work and it showed my car was still parked outside the house. I was well confused but I thought that the image had frozen or something, it's done it before.

It seemed to sort itself out soon after.

It's happened a few times. Last time I actually saw the postman walk past, so the only explanation was that the video was somehow time delayed by like 19 hours or something. I even wiped the OS off the CCTV computer thing and it still did the same. Then I noticed you could even see the car in the other camera. I was proper pulling my hair out TBH.

Anyway I've just looked on it again:

Turns out a mate of a neighbour has the same car and I was just being naive in not realising someone else was parking an identical abarth 500 outside my house while I'm at work.

Went out in the ever reliable Civic, as I hadn't driven it in a few weeks. Car coming the other way, so pulled in to wait and stopped. As I came to a stop, it juddered and stalled! :?

Turns out that I forgotten how to clutch...

Your welcome to try mine if you're ever in my neck of the woods on your travels, I'm in Wellingborough, Northants.

To be honest mine isn't the best example, it gets shocking MPG due to a shagged torque convertor, some V6s get close to 30 allegedly.

Did that in the works Focus on Friday, then managed to almost launch myself through the window of the automatic accord later the same day by stamping on the brake pedal like it was a clutch. I'm easily confused these days.

Either that or your doppleganger is in your house while you are out

I did that once in a Saab 9-5 after a very long day (drive from Peterborough to Goodwood Revival, then driving to the hotel). Bet it shat up the car behind too! I certainly tested the seatbelts...

Checked the rest of the tyres on the 530i today and we have a date range between 2003-2007.

The worrying thing is when I opened the boot to check the dead tyre, that was a 2009 date!

4 new tyres to be bought today and fitted ASAP - I'm just glad the kids weren't in the car.

Check your tyres guys... The tread on these was ace and (out of ignorance really) I hadn't checked the dates. I will from now on!

The first day I drove the ZX to work rather than the XM I nearly stalled doing just that. Caught it at 20mph in 5th, with the car shaking so much I thought the windscreen was going to fall out...

these greeted me when I stopped at the supermarket this morning..

just superb!

That Paul Walker guy accident was reckoned to be contributed to by the 9 year old tyres on the Porsche Carrera GT.
