Beard to weird.............NG TF molestation

Always wanted a hot rod, and always loved the Blue Train Bentley..welcome to my ham fisted attempt to build something sure to piss off at three different factions of the"classic motoring " brigade..........

I started with this;post-2866-0-17867800-1511206336_thumb.jpg

Ripped off the wings and the roofpost-2866-0-21176000-1511206562_thumb.jpg

Fabricated a roofpost-2866-0-29439100-1511206641_thumb.jpg

Then found a slightly embarrassing lack of headroom, so did thispost-2866-0-77382800-1511206719_thumb.jpg

Which, on reflection, looked chuffing awful..so raised roof by an inchpost-2866-0-11734000-1511206784_thumb.jpgpost-2866-0-20420100-1511206812_thumb.jpg

Much yet to do...............and now donning the flame proof overalls..........

Love the concept, I love the lines of that Bentley too. If memory serves a faithful replica would also have a jump seat mounted cocktail cabinet?

I'd love a blue train Bentley- sadly my diamond mine has yet to come up with the goods.

Posted

Inside a bit small for cocktail cabinets.....will feature a lot of alloy and wood though..although the shite "side of a wardrobe dashboard" is heading for the bin......

If your starting with a kit car go for it. I love builds like this.

What engine are you going with?

Posted

Love the roof! Always think small cars like this with them make it look like the driver is added as an afterthought.

I wouldn't even know where to start on making this thing and so far you seem to be doing a really good job.

I don't get how you can piss anyone off though messing with a kit car as really it's already been messed with :-)

This indeed could be madly entertaining.

Settles down with drinks and snacks.

At the moment, all MBG running gear..............but the thought of a small block V8 is almost irresistible...they actually offered these with a Rover v8 option, so there is room. Has wire wheel hubs fitted, but the 14' jobs look silly, so I'm using the centres and having a set of 17" steel wheels made.

Interior will be alloy and light wood, steel luggage trunk mounted on back...........various other alterations may include a new front grille, possibly of 30's origin........

The shape YES

The Vent NOoooooooO!!!! - perhaps 2 half round windows ?

Posted

thanks guys..........more info shortly ............anyone on here in the acrylic / lexan industry? Going to need some side windows made........

vent hides sunroof in previous pics.....which has now been bonded in..........

Fabulous - the bastard child of a bentley and a chrysler crossfire.

Looks the nuts.

Shame the 2 mixing bowls idea didnt work out, Zagato had to put some serious time in to carry that off

Good ambition though - crack on

Sodding brilliant, my Dad had a 1.8TC Marina based one of these & it was mucho fun to drift everywhere on those tall narrow tyres. I'm surprised 1" is enough for the roof, I'm hardly tall & I used to look over the screen more than through it.

Excellant. Needs Buick straight eight power.

**Those Blue Train replicas are the only new car that would get anywhwere near my lottery win.

Posted

MGC style straight six would sound kinda right in such a thing, I seem to recall lots of space under the front of these things.

Peterson make a lovely replica of the 'Blue train' special even though the actual car that did the Blue train run was a Gurney Nutting SALOON  as the coupe wasn't delivered until a month after the race. The Peterson rep though is based on a 50s RR chassis and has a B80 RR engine so it's a Rolls-Royce really but still... I'd not decline if offered :)

However, I applaud your efforts to build a 70% sized rep and shall watch this thread with MASSIVE interest.

More done...........as with all of these projects........three steps forward, two back...........inspiration for the interior as above...........seats should be here Tuesday......

post-2866-0-48677700-1511970168_thumb.jpgBehold.......ye finest English craftsmanship....................dashboard has always annoyed me, as the glovebox is on the squint, and I don't like very shiny wood, so after carefully [probably] labelling all electrical connectors, I ripped the bastard out

shiny on the outside..........[

and shiny on the reverse as well.

..................as I suspected, chopped out of what was probably once a wardrobe..............[pics captions in wrong place......] I suspect that the origins of this fine slab of carpenterial excellence never had any roots...............

The lump out of a essdeewon 2300 or 2600 would be more fruity sounding shirley?

Thinking about Triumph straight six.......if anyone has one kicking about, some measurements would be handy................
