Fuck look at the state of that! You'll notice the difference now!

It drove fine before in the steering dept..

Since acquisition, this tub has been frustrating.

Naturally, that meant it was the ideal vehicle to use for a 600+ mile round trip to Lincolnshire for work..

Preparation for the journey amounted to a wash/interior clean plus tyre pressure check and fluids checked.

First thing I noticed is, despite new dampers and topmounts the ride isn't all that - I'll need to check out to see if there is a preload for front springs etc...

Secondly, it looks like at least 1 caliper is dragging slightly.

Other than that it was grand - my favourite bit was the "Dual carriageway ahead" signs on the A66

*Selects 4th*

*Passes ALL TEH TRUCKS*

Scores on the doors as follows

The first tank of fuel came out at 41.13mpg, none too shabby. I expect the second one will be circa 40mpg too.

Still, there's always more to fix with a 172..

That is amazing mpgs for effectively a high performance car.  I guess it offsets the rest of the fiddling costs.

Not the mental costs of working on these things it doesn't

Wot 'e said!

Fucking things

Due to nursing mine along atm because of the borked driveshaft, it must be getting pretty decent mpg.

Who needs stop/start when you have "Always broke" ?

Always fancied one of these... might look to swap my 9-5 for one if/when I'm bored with it.

I quite fancy clearing out the whole fleet and just having a company car and something fun like a 172 or a Mégane 225.

Apart from my total inertia, other projects and hatred of selling cars, the internet is doing a good job of putting me off.

Horror stories aplenty. Mind you, most say:

Load of shit. Get a Golf or Leon instead ©pisstonheads.

Ideally you want the 225 lump ( with some tuning) in the Clio

And a back up "fun" car!

Ok. I bit the bullet.

2x rear Calipers bought and fitted. These are ones listed for Clio 172/saxo vts/pug 106 GTi/pug 205

The only thing that seems different is the shape of the lever for the handbrake.

Seems a bit less 'warm' after a test drive.

This went off ok, so I decided to try adjusting the handbrake..

Which resulted in a very loud "FUCK OFFFF!" and a walk round the yard to calm down.

Upon returning, we deduced it was a siezed handbrake cable - so stuck that the lever arm on the caliper was unable to return.

The cable is out and I shall order a new one.

Ungrateful piece of crap.

Just be careful that you get the correct cables, Cliosport.net is full of threads of folk being supplied with wrong aftermarket cables. Might be worth going genuine. Am guessing you already know this being a hardcore Renault sport addict.

Good luck with the MOT!!

I have indeed..

I have the pictures of the supplier system and correct cable part numbers.

There was much faffing about the last time given these Exclusive models are on the cusp of the shift to the Ph2 172.

I shall get the right bits as soon as I can be arsed.

In the meantime it can take me to the station tomorrow.

Fail or advisories?

Fails obviously:)

Tyres worn on inner edges - worth replacing. Not expensive as 195/50/15s

Real bugger is the centre mount for the exhaust. The bolt has snapped and needs drilling out.

So far the battery in the drill has died.

We've sacked it off for today.

MOT repairs nearly complete..

Exhaust hanger -

Spent time trying to drill this out.

Then checked out the alignment for the hanger when fitted.

Not great. Time for plan B.

Aha! an set of holes to utilise

Some surgery needed - removal of locating dowel.

Then with some grunting, but no swearing, it was fitted in the alternative location.

Not pretty but solid.
