Well, just been out to collect the signs, and wondered why anybody would want to steal an SF18 direction sign wheel trim then guessed it was taken as a souvenir, so I guess SF18 is officially over. Must say thank you to everyone who made the effort to turn up and for making it a great weekend.

Was great fun - will do again! 10/10 - although I think I will let someone else host it next year and just visit!

Hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves, I certainly did. Difficult to pick individuals out but Kudos to SquireDawson for the epic journey in the MO and to all who put so much effort into getting the Green Goddess running for the first time in 9 years. Special thanks also to davidfowler2000 for bringing the big yellow bus down my track and especially for the headboard which made my weekend. A picture of that and the signed attendance sheet below:

Excellent weekend sir! 112%/10 great venue. Will visit again!

I'll get some photos up at some point. Kudos to all the Englanders for actually making the effort showing everyone on here that moans about things being too far away they are just complete wimps!

The bus averaged 7.75mpg from Barrhead to Dundee and 7.75mpg again from Dundee - SF18 - Dundee. We went home via the outskirts of Edinburgh so less stops (roundabouts) and flatter going means I would expect to see at least 9mpg next time I fill up. A few hairy moments going down the track especially trying to get out when it decided to lose traction going up the steep bit of the gravel track through the trees.

Indeed. A few of us were having a good prod around the Duster. I reckon it's very much AS approved futureshite.

Myself and Mr Ghosty are at Abington Services. We went to find the tallest village in Scotland on the recommendation of Mr Fowler, but the road was closed. So we turned around and came down the a70, which was pretty fucking sweet!

Time to get some miles down and get the hell out of Scotland! I'm 800 miles in averaging 56.5mpg

I am also home; after a hairy man stole my car I did get it back again and returned to SVM HQ whereupon I gave it a wash.

I have since collected CHILD_CMS and WIFE_CMS and returned home where I am cooking some sort of delicious potato dish for tea.

Saabnut is an absolute gentlemen and made an already great weekend absolutely outstanding, I do hope we didn't disgrace ourselves.

To all of you - cheers!

PS: It's nice to leave mid afternoon and still be home at teatime - 135 miles home is just a nice amount ;)92c7a29090b26a416127e2630e936756.jpg2fa46ab63b4fa6ba6c7a056825edc7ce.jpgb73200e0a66f41f782dbc5f3c4cc2628.jpg

I sloped off early (10am) today as I had another place to be but I think that I am not just speaking for myself when I say a better host would be very difficult to find.

The location was amazing, the on site attractions (so much stuff) was difficult to believe.

The stand out was the attitude of the host, not many would have gone to the trouble of creating the kitchen/toilet suite and having such such an inconceivable assortment of vehicles which despite the value of some of these there was no 'off limits'

Thank you for the opportunity to roam freely.

Fantastic weekend. Many thanks to SaabNut for providing a venue which can only be described as perfect!

Fantastic selection of cars and some magical moments inluding the arrival of Squire Dawson in the Oxford at 1:30am, the resurection of the Bedford and the SVM catering crew very nearly being overwhelmed by the collective's desire for fryed foods on Sat morning.

Have many pictures and videos but won't be home to podt them till mid week!

Now that I've had time to unwind, unpack and catch up with modern life, it's time for my traditional big post to round off this year's Shitefest.

Once again. Thanks to Mr Nick Saabnut for an excellent weekend. I've never said that any Shitefest was better or worse than the others and this year was no different. Every event has it's own character from the sheer unadulterated chaos we brought to the village of Malham in 2013 to the epic day trip that was the dual venue Welsh event in 2015. That said this year's was probably the most sophisticated Shitefest with hot and cold running toilets, an electric kettle that NEVER went cold for three days and the opportunity to hook the bus up to the mains so I could run the electric cool box constantly and keep the lights burning for hours at a time.

This year also set a record for how much we could demolish a slab of lorne sausage. Normally a single slab will do the SVM and any partakers for 2 breakfast sittings with one or two slices left over. This year saw a whole slab of 24 slices, a dozen potato scones, 2 dozen rolls and almost two packets of bacon annihilated in 45 minutes. We simply couldn't cook them as fast as there was demand even with Andy FPB7's jet stove! EXCELLENT JOB GANG!!!

This year's story starts about 4 months ago. I knew I was buying a flat and as recompense for letting me use his spare room when we did an Associated Massivs at the Electric Train Museum, I offered my spare room to Sloth_in_a_bowl. A room I didn't have yet. It also turned out to be my own first night in the flat after 3 weeks of decorating and all sorts. Even still I'm not fully moving in until a new front door is fitted. 2 days before Mr Sloth was due to arrived, dollywobbler made mention he was doing the journey in two stages with an overnight somewhere. I offered the living room which seemed to go down well especially after sleeping in the living room became sleeping in the 3rd bedroom after we managed to clear a load of stuff out. While this was going on, beko1987 and Ghosty were staying at Bavarianretro's unit in East Kilbride. A plan was hatched for beko and Ghosty to arrive at my flat early Friday, walk in to Glasgow for breakfast and then head to Barrhead to get the bus. The convoy departed Barrhead approx 1120hrs and first stop was Dundee for a fuel and pit stop. 7.75mpg it averaged! Not helped by big hills and the torque converter in the gearbox not locking up betweek Perth and Dundee.

People were amazed the bus got there. Secret was I popped up to see Nick last week in the car just to see how tough the last section of the journey would be so it was just a case of taking it easy. Leaving the site proved difficult at the first tight turn on the dirt track where it went up a steep hill through the trees. The rear end cut in just enough to catch the soft verge and lost traction. A quick reverse and a gentle run at the gravel track took care of that. On the southbound journey I decided it would be a good idea to go from Dundee to Perth then continue on the M90 to the outskirts of Edinburgh over the new Queensferry crossing. Less roundabouts for the bus's senile gearbox to deal with and smoother, free-er flowing roads made for a very pleasant journey home.

Andy cms overtook at Edinburgh, followed by beko1987, to open up the yard at Barrhead while myself and DW on board were followed back by Ghosty. We arrived back at Barrhead approx 1700hrs where we did a quick transfer of stuff back to the cars. DW set off first in an attempt to get home quickly, beko and Ghosty headed for the KFC at Darnley for dinner and myself and cms206 gave the cars a quick hose down. I then dashed off to KFC to do a final send off to Messrs beko and Ghosty who are still on their way south as I type. Almost 4 hours later.

Myself and cms206 were absolutely delighted at all the Englanders who made the journey just showing that nowhere on the mainland UK is truly "far away". Furthest travelled of course were Mr garycox from Brighton and Mr Kirton from Devonshire? in the campervan. Although he cheated his extra mileage by going the long way! RobT from south London and beko1987 (first time in Scotland) from Oxfordshire were another two epic journeys. Well done chaps! It makes such a pleasant change being able to leave a Shitefest early afternoon and be home for tea time.

Anyways. Time for some highlights of my photos. As usual I've uploaded them to my Flickr page.

Dinner time approached on the Saturday. My previous experience as a megabus driver told me we should head for Mike's Chipper in Torry. We found somewhere utterly dismal to sit and eat - Mr rml2345 reckons it was the old Bon Accord soft drinks factory / warehouse. The concensus was that of "That's a crackin' chip shop"

Looks like it was a fabulous meet.

What amuses me most about most of the pictures on here is that you have to double check and be sure which vehicles are the ones that drove there, and which are the permanent fixtures of the site. The only way to be completely sure was by the length of grass around the vehicle.

I should be home by 4am, which'll be 15 hours I think. Bit later than planned due to scenic hoonage through the Yorkshire Dales, then the A1M and various other roads being shut at the exact points I wanted to use them.

A minor quibble. Superb weekend, many thanks Nick for hosting. A+++ wud attend Scotland again.

Now back on the M1 to give Clio a thrashing. This car has been amazing.

Home now minus the little green bastard. A huge thanks to Bucketeer for the ride home to pick up the Saab (yes dear, I went to Aberdeen in it, honest) and to all of the others who've carried my other assorted rammle for me to collect at a later date.

Top honours go to Saabnut who not only put on a tremendous event and was an excellent host throughout but helped me out hugely by assisting in the eventual repair and repatriation of the Wart at some point in the future.

What else can I say? Much enjoyment was had, no photos were taken because I was just having a great time just soaking up the fantastic comeradery of a bunch of folk who, for most of the year, are just names on a little web forum on the outskirts of the town that is the Internet.

I don't know what's more broken, the Wartburgs transmission or myself - it was an epic adventure to get it there and it almost worked but I think it was the wiser choice to leave it there to save greater damage and heartache whilst suffering at the hands of the numerous recovery folk needed to relay it back home when the inevitable happened.

Of course, now that other shiters have found that Scotland isn't as far away as you thought, some of you will be joining me to attend an SVM monthly munch in the future?

THE SHITE-UP

Beko has pretty well documented our joint adventures both on here and the book of faces (resulting in a raft of friend requests from shiters that both were and weren't at SF).

I started at home on Thursday, hoping my radio wiring adapter would arrive so I could have aux in etc. LOL NOPE, yer takin' tapes lad. I did, and it was fine. FM reception was balls though, as my head unit is ancient, and the aerial is on the back seat as I can't be arsed wiring it properly.

After helping bub2006 with a gearbox, Beko made his way to Manchestervacs to sell some machines to them, as well as meet up with me and 3VOM. 3VOM couldn't make SF due to illness, but had a vacuum for Beko. I imagine the fuel saving will be friendly to 3VOM's wallet anyway as he drives a 960!

Speaking of Volvos, none were in attendance.

After vacuum business was done, Beko and myself headed north on a very uneventful trip up the M60/61/6/74, where nothing really happened and no chod was spotted, aside one other Laguna II (for a total of three on the trip). We just sat at the speed limit right up to East Kilbride, and having left Manc around 4pm, got to EK for 9ish (including regular breaks). BavarianRetro was out assisting with a breakdown, so we went to the local Morrison's to stock up on everything except beer, as we got there too late for that, because SCTSH LAW. Back to the unit via KFC, then sit around a bit, and BR shows up around midnight, lets us in to sleep, and job's a good'un.

We left early the next morning in anticipation of rush hour, and as a result showed up at chez Fowler over an hour early:

for contrast to before, when only DW's Starlet was in shot.

We ('we' being David Fowler, myself, Beko, DW and sloth in a bowl) had a wander into Glasgae and an almost deserted Wetherspoons by Central Station for breakfast, and from there it was back to Fowler's and subsequently SVM HQ at Barrhead, where Campbell Motor Services, his mystery Montego Mayfair, The Bus, and all the other delights* of SVM HQ greeted us.

We ran express to Dundee, however Beko had run ahead as he had to drop in on someone, and reconvened on us leaving.

We stopped briefly after Dundee to pick up FPB7 , who had heroically driven his Wartburg all the way up at sub-60mph, only for it to throw a driveshaft, and later split its header tank (it is still in Aberdeenshire). At the same time we chanced upon occasional shiter Kirton.

Shitefest was achieved around 3pm, and we were the first to arrive.

At this point the thread has mostly already shown the contents of Saabnut's Scandinavian sanatorium, however I do have a few photos worth posting:

Timeless settings.

Later in the day, when starting Saabnut's Brown Green Goddess looked to be fruitless, twelve of us crammed into RobT's Clio, CMS' Montego, and catsinthewelder's 405 and went off to a chippy in Aberdeen on Mr Fowler's recommendation from his days as a Megabus driver.

42722986541_a1b2e6023a_b.jpgIMG_1045 by max_burton, on Flickr

The chippy was at one end of two one way streets, leaving us only one place to look for parking, a dead end street. As we went up the street, and failed to find any parking spaces, someone blocked the road with a modern Clio to jump start a slightly shonky 307, leaving us no way to escape. We abandoned the cars on some double yellows and went off for chips. As we were outside the chippy waiting for various things to be cooked, the ex-Supernaut Xantia passed us by!

We also spotted a Noble M400 with a plate that seemed to read BIG NOB somehow, but wanky font means I can't work out what it actually said.

We returned to the cars, and no parking tickets were had, so we headed off to the seafront* to eat, then back down to not-quite-Auchenblae, to find that the Goddess had started. General merriment ensued, and we camped out in the bus while discussing various things, messing with the destination display, bell, and loud pedal.

There must have been a car show on somewhere in Perthshire, as on the way down to Barrhead I clocked:

  • PA Cresta (bonus: it wasn't pink; it was blue)
  • Capri 280i
  • TVR Chimaera
  • mk3 Cortina GXL - in Roman Bronze; convoying with a mk2 Escort 1.3L
  • Sierra Cosworth, in Moonstone
  • Evo V

I also spotted a facelift Citroen DS on the M6, and two Manchester plated taxis the wrong side of Perth. No clue what they were doing up there.
