My current plan was to drive part way on Thursday after work and find a cheap B&B somewhere near the Scottish boarder. Then back on the road & get to Aberdeen for Friday lunch.

If I was doing the whole thing on Friday then it would need a dawn start.

Blimey get you with your sensible-Ness...

Any idea where yet?

I am still working out my route!

Just a reminder you are all welcome to arrive early and stay over until the Monday. You would be welcome to stay longer but I am heading off to Le Mans on the Tuesday!

Not sure yet, but Days Inn Annandale waterpark near Lockerbie is just off the M74 and £50. It looks very shite.

Days Inn at gretna looks even less pleasant and is cheaper.

Look even more undesirable with my trike outside in the disabled bay.

Which leads to the daft question, how do you stop your blue badge getting stolen off a trike?

Homemade badge holder. It's a work in progress at the moment. Ideas appreciated! Best I've came up with is sandwich between two pieces of perspex but I require something a bit more quick release!

I'd be up for a stay at the shittest hotel we can find! Sure me and bub could be there Thursday tea time, I'd just leave early Am for Derby

Do we stay again on the way back though or just crack on and get home?

Decathlon probably will do you alright.

A mate suggested the Tamar 2 man from Blacks to me as well, they're about £40.

Back when I was a young, and skint, student we arrived in Cornwall for a camping holiday to find we had forgotten our tent. After an uncomfortable night's sleep in the back of the car we purchased one from Argos - in fact the exact same one which we had left at home.

At the end of the holiday we packed it up VERY carefully, and returned it under their (at the time) 16 day money back guarantee. Not that I could condone such behaviour...

I bought a cheap £25 Eurohike tent from Millets in 1999, just to go to the Glastonbury Festival that year. I've still got it now, and it has appeared at Shitefests. Think I got my money's worth out of it!

Would drilling a hole through the badge invalidate it?

I'm thinking of a bit of tube through the hole & then a padlock through a hole drilled across the tube to stop the badge coming off.

My £30 Gelert one was also bought in 1999 (from an outdoor equipment shop in Huntingdon, the name of which escapes me) & it only seems to get out for Shitefests these days.

What size is the badge? Would something like this work?

They are about 6" square, but probably measured in frog these days.

Oh Bub, tried asking NADB? they must get this question a lot.http://www.nabd.org.uk/

36 quid from nabd. A lot for a little holder with a chain.

Ouch. Lucky you don't need one for shitefest then.

I'd be interested in a night in a hotel around the Scottish borders. I don't fancy driving through Scotland when it's late and I'm tired, want to enjoy the drive.

It'd be an all-day drive for me too (about 6hr excluding breaks).
Besides we'd get up there earlier on Friday - a good idea as I've got The Banner.

I reckon we should all work together and book a shit cheap hotel somewhere then! If it's cheap enough I'd be up for one Sunday night too... I don't know the area though, so will leave that for someone else!

Then we can leave early dawn after breakfast and get cracking

Thinking of myself and daz from Derby, Gretna green makes it about half way. Glasgow makes it 120 miles away.

So the question I suppose is, would us soft southern bastards prefer most of the driving over Thursday, and stay nearer to shitefest so it's only a mornings drive (Google says 125 miles but I bet that takes a million hours on small roads) or 50/50 and have a longer drive friday

Just trying to work out my/daz's plans (he's playing with his bike atm so cant help) so we don't stay on our own if other shitters are up for a pre shitefest meet/beers/food/kip. And finding somewhere that people would want to get to!

Posted

From gretna green to Aberdeen is all motorway or dual carriageway - only small roads will be to the site.

Unless you want to go some fun roads through the middle

Posted

I think that was part of the plan, have a nice drive. Hence my question of do we all get the boot down to Glasgow on the motorway then chillax the next morning and have a good old shitefest meander in some sort of convoy! I know Daz mentioned that if he brings his mobility scooter we could go the scenic route. I'm happy either way tbh

The Glasgow Travelodges are £40/50 for Thursday night, and I doubt that will change so we can procrastinate a bit.

How about you all invade Barry Cade's new job as a caravan site warden? :D

The Trossacks aren't far past Glasgow...

Just remember to take it handy through Dumfriesshire - polis round there are a shower of cunts ;-)

M74 after Grenta is a favorite for camera vans too.

Most of the road north is avg camera misery...

Yes I'm going to update my Tom Tom, or try to so the cameras are up to date. Failing that I've got a cheap road angel in my ebay watch list, and can direct debit a subscription then cancel it when I'm home...

Or just look forwards & pay attention to spot cameras...

I view it as if you don't see a camera in time then you're traveling too fast for your level of observation.

Good grief! We agree on something!
