I’m to blame for the protracted collection. Let’s just say I’m lining it up for once I’ve lost a couple more of the fleet.

Massive thanks to L1 for helping arrange all this!

Red 206 not looking so healthy, apparently it's still drinking coolant.

Figured out why the fan isn't coming on on my 206 (the GTi)

Tried to fit the winter wheels

Stupid aftermarket wheels have tapered bolts, proper wheels need flat / square bolts

Well, I bought some wheel bolts, and they're the right shape but slightly too wide to sit snug in the wheels.   Turns out these fancy GTI wheels require fancy GTI wheel bolts.  Which they stopped using after a year.

Fantastic pics as ever man.

You could do your own Peugeot Callander.

Id buy one.

For that I would need to buy more Peugeots.  And for that, I have to sell the 406

406 will be SORNed on Monday since it's not sold; I'm quite happy with this, it's going to prove useful I have no doubt.

After a few attempts I've finally managed to find the right wheel bolts for my winter wheels, which turn out to be the same wheels my car would have been fitted with new.  Whodathunkit?

Managed to blag the lift to put the wheels on, so took the opportunity to also change the brake pads as they were the advisory for the MOT last year an it's now due..

Got home and gently pulled the handbrake up to torque up the wheelbolts as I couldn't immediately locate Mr McGregor's torque wrench, and.. PING

IMG-20201124-WA0061.thumb.jpeg.f58750ef00e55ec77bd24c7c363afed5.jpeg

Snapped a handbrake cable.  BAWLS.

Anyway, since I had only half a handbrake I thought it'd be the best car to rag to the shops this morning, since everyone knows Alston is known for being the flattest place after Amsterdam.

Got home and gave the two little ones a wash.

The cars, not the boys.

That car has been begging for OEM wheels for long times. Looks much cooler man.

I've sat by that cross in Alston, enjoying some very good fish & chips...

This lion seems a bit wrong, but at least I'm in the right place for a lockdown eye test.

So apparently I've bought a 9⁵ aero.  Not quite sure how but Mrs L1 likes it and I do too, so I foresee it staying.  There seem to be plenty of them on here so that's a good sign I guess.

What do I need to know about these things? They've never been on my radar before, I don't know what's good or bad, it's just kinda fallen into my lap.

I guess UKSAABs is a good place to start.  Are parts generally available? What goes wrong?

Sold to an ex-shiter by the looks of it.  No messing, just book a train ticket from Weymouth and send the money over.  Met at the station and off he went, to the south, which might as well be Australia

What do you need to know? They're lush!

What saw mine off was the fact I couldn't get hold of headlamp level sensors (so the xenons were always pointing down) and quite bad rust developing behind the arch liners at the back. Both were really excuses because I wanted to try something else and I would love another one.

So I am seeing!

Anything to watch out for? Do I need to worry about sludge?

I took mine to have the sump dropped by a Saab-loving mechanic who was reluctant to do the work because he said the problem if overstated. It was clean. But then again my friend had one which destroyed its engine extensively. The knocking was horrendous and got worse until it failed completely (he knew it would do this but he had decided to scrap the car anyway so he ran an experiment. It lasted about a week until you could hear him coming from some distance away.)

When I got mine from Northern Monkey he fitted new headlamp sensor for not very much and welded up the rear arches.

Aside from that it just does car things.

Drive through Alston twice a weekend in non pandemic summer chucking stags off the beck in Ashgill! Didn’t realise you’d moved so close!

Nice to meet you and the car was a delight to drive the seven hours home.  Got a bit bored of the 'is your journey necessary' signs on the motorway though. Yes 15 hours, 4 trains to Carlisle and a 375 mile drive home was vital as I have always wanted another 406 estate... :)  Looking through the history it used to live just down the road in Poole a few years ago a mere 25 miles from its new home.

Not really my fleet, but it came from here, so..

Moar 206 action.

IMG-20210102-WA0033.thumb.jpeg.fd5ab6cdc85b4a3319e56fd46477bff9.jpeg

My GTi came with these half leather seats.  They're nice, but have 158k miles of use on them, and only a lap belt in the middle in the back.

IMG-20210102-WA0034.thumb.jpeg.8fdafffd15c3dced38034cd372a346ac.jpeg

So I picked up a full set of full leather ones from Facebook for £70.

IMG-20210102-WA0031.thumb.jpeg.302c226f9b1cb74e1433b1b3418ac091.jpeg

Rotate yer bastard.  Fitting was pretty straightforward, four 13mm bolts for the seats themselves.  The three point belt buckles on the other side so I've had to move the buckle over too.  No bother really.

Need to decide if I'm going to fit the fronts too.  They're very comfortable, but not heated, and they have airbags in the side.  Which I obviously can't connect!

In they go.  Pretty comfortable and they drop lower than the originals.  Definitely heavier though

Hence, the SAAB has been doing family duties.   Here it is, five up, going to the local post office to return some ill fitting clothes.
