You have a fully working stereo?Some mistake surely!Pretty much every car I've ever owned has only been able to pick up crackly mediumwave off-shore & 'pirate' radio stations. Enjoy it while you can.

I voted for turn the bugger off in the end. If I was piloting a mondeo then keep it on, but generally 'classic' car motoring doent need any artificial noise polution.

Between Sid & Doris owning my car and me buying it someone else got in and thought it was a good idea to fit a up-to-the-minute stero and accompaning huge speakers - bugger! When he sold the car he ripped it out leaving huge holes in the irreplaceable 1970's panels.Luckily I managed to repair it and now my trusty Motorola does that job as it was meant to.Motorola = yes Stereo = No

Just thought I'd mention that this wat the last thread on page 98, and I have a VDO from a Vauxhall wedged behind my centre seat, some wires dangling into the dash sockets, and some blown domestic speakers lobbed in the back, and wedged in by a bit of railway sleeper. It plays The Who and The Kinks well enough for me to hear over a 62hp 3 bearing pushrod diesel, underinflated crossplies, and a couple of wobbly props.

Just won a minimate car radio on the bay its only 3 inch x 3 inch x 2 inch , cost a bloody fortune and i mean a fortune for what it is , dont know if it works , dont care really , had to have for my Imp , just for looks , I must be bloody mad , Anyway engine noise all the way for me .

in its day the polo first had 10 speakers, 2 subs, sony xplod stereo and 2 amps, removed them all when some welding was done (now 6 months ago) and never refitted it.. it weights to much

Hmmm...Can I opt for:Driving along listening to a cassette, then hitting traffic but not being able to listen to traffic reports on the radio because the radio doesn't work; then asking your travelling companion to unbelt, dive onto the backseat and delve into the boot of a hatchback to retreive the radio/cassette that the radio only works on and changing it whilst stationary, so you can hear the traffic reports?

I would like to vote for the two-knob radio installed for retro/originality/aesthetic purposes, but which is unusable because it only receives long wave and blasts a 200dB *CRACK* through the speaker every time the volume is touched.

I have to have music in my motors. It's vital.

 

Otherwise I spend all my time listening out for clunks and unusual sounds and end up getting to my destination either very worried or mildly concerned. I hear clunks, squeaks and rattles in brand new motors, ffs, so my old stuff drives me insane.

 

First thing I checked with ye olde Mk2 Escort was the radio. The welding wasn't a worry, having a working radio is!

How did thid thread, resurrected from over 4 years ago, not get lost in the great board purge? I'm dumbfounded and stunned.
