pandamonium Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 I may be about to purchase a Citroen C3 as a WBOD, am I insane? It's cheaper to insure than most other cars that I've found for sale, and seems the ideal candidate. Has anyone had any experience of these? Are they actually the spiritual successor to the 2cv or some soulless modern crap - a Peugeot 206 in drag? Opinions welcomed, but may not be listened to...
Lacquer Peel Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Even worse than a 206 in drag, the 207 is a C3 in drag.A 206 would be a lot better, last of the line of small PSA motors with torsion bar rear suspension that are relatively light, fun to drive.Just sort out the R8 dude.
bramz7 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 As I've often mentioned, my mum had two of them over 13 years. The first one was a bit meh and lunched it's alternator within a year. The second one she had for 11 years and it took a torrent of low maintenance without any ill effect. Admittedly my mum never once drove it hard, but it coped well given it never once had a cambelt changed. Still going too. They aren't too bad comfort wise either. From what others have said though they can be a real mixed bag in general.
Supernaut Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 spiritual successor to the 2cv soulless modern crap - a Peugeot 206 in drag? Lacquer Peel 1

Kiltox Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 They are fucking TERRIBLE. Not in an AS way either Women love them, sold loads when I was in the trade. Hate them with a passion. Junkman, fiatdaft, barefoot and 1 other 4
pandamonium Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 I'd love to sort the Rover, but life circumstances dictate a change. I can't afford and don't have the time to sort it.
barefoot Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 There is nothing good about a C3, we had one as a loan car for a couple of weeks - it wasn't even economical. Junkman 1
pandamonium Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 Well, it's either that or a Ford Ka....
Kiltox Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 As long as it’s cheap enough to be disposable, that’s better
hairnet Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Flimsy as fuck Diesel not too bad Sisters mother in law has had 3 09 12 and recently bought another Even the new one is Tupperware Do see lots of early ones about so they must last
Lacquer Peel Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 I'd love to sort the Rover, but life circumstances dictate a change. I can't afford and don't have the time to sort it.You can afford to replace it with a different, much shitter car though? flat4alfa 1
Vince70 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 The ford will most probably be the better bet but be prepared to paint it about once a week inch by inch up the side of the car over the winter months in under seal till spring when you will end up with a car painted up in the stuff up to the roof line. But the good news is at least the glass can't rust. I've just soaked one in waxoyl a few weeks ago and amazingly it was rust free but it hadn't seen salt or bad weather and when you look underneath one you can see it was built to a price as it doesn't even get a set of plastic liners under the arches.
pandamonium Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 You can afford to replace it with a different, much shitter car though? I'll be using the proceeds of selling the Rover to fund it, give or take (New car on the credit card and pay back once Rover sold) I'm currently out of work, flitting between crappy temporary work at MW, and a part time job in a shop.I've got a court case coming up to sort out the times I'm allowed to see my little boy, because my ex keeps causing trouble. My ex is moving to Harwich with my son, which is a massive trek from Leigh on Sea if I didn't have a car, and a risk in the Rover as it is.The CV joint needs doing on the Rover, which I don't know how to do, and can't afford to pay a garage to do it. So basically, until I get back on my feet, life is a bit unkind at the moment, and I need a car I don't have to worry about. Lacquer Peel 1
Lacquer Peel Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Can any nearby autoshiters assist? The Rover is a known quantity, some impulse purchase cheap small car could be a real liability.
Supernaut Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Shit, only a CV joint? Not too bad for a keen amateur. Must be a shiter nearby willing to help! Lacquer Peel 1
pandamonium Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 I know, people keep telling me it is easy, but I'm not very confident lately.
oldcars Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Spend the money getting someone to sort the wee bits on the Rover. Never had a C3 but the though of that over a Rover make me ill. Vince70 and Lacquer Peel 2
Junkman Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Well, it's either that or a Ford Ka.... Why?There is a shitload of proper shite out there.
Dick Cheeseburger Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 If you want French, reasonably reliable, half-decent turn of speed and a million empeegees, a decent 206HDI is achievable for way less than a bag of sand. Vince70 1
bramz7 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Pretty certain a decent ZX would be achievable too. Of course finding one isn't always easy. I dunno guys, I far preferred the C3s I've been in compared to the KAs. Admittedly all of the latter have been fucked.
beko1987 Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Sure I saw a white zx for sale on here very recently? £300... Would be perfect! Id shit myself at needing to do a CV joint too, don't worry about that!
Lacquer Peel Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Replace the whole drive shaft, that's easy enough.
pandamonium Posted October 10, 2017 Author Posted October 10, 2017 People saying 'spend the money on the Rover'....There isn't any money, that's the problem! oldcars 1
Kiltox Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 But you’ll spend more trying to replace a slightly broken old car with an unknown one - your plan to pay off the credit card with the funds from selling the Rover doesn’t stack up. Find a garage to sort the Rover that takes cards. Lacquer Peel and oldcars 2
dollywobbler Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 The last thing you need right now is a C3. They're absolutely horrible. SiC, barefoot and Lacquer Peel 3
Kiltox Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 Also - credit card suggests trader but skint suggests very cheap - buying very cheap cars from traders is rarely a good idea
