Braddon81 Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 I've owned a Yaris Verso for nearly 8 years now. Brilliant things - a proper swiss Army knife of a car. I won't part with it even though Toyota's rustproofing on the rear half of the floorpan and sills was dire - it's always a constant struggle to keep it tidy underneath. Even half about examples are worth more than people think - and they're Ulez exempt which is an extra bonus. RobT, HMC and mk2_craig 3

I’ve been out on my bike on Dartmoor today and it slots in upright without the need to take the front wheel off. I also went to the tip with an old sofa Which it also swallowed up. Being an auto it’s a bit like a little go kart. Brilliant little thing, and a nice counterpoint to the Nissan saloons I’ve got. Skizzer, RobT, Braddon81 and 1 other 4
HMC Posted December 3, 2022 Author Posted December 3, 2022 PS Had a proper tyre fitted so it’s no longer driving around on the space saver. I was almost reluctant to as it added to the rolling disaster zone vibe (which I was quite enjoying) but it drives and corners a bit more nicely now. loserone, Braddon81, Marm Toastsmith and 13 others 16

If anyone wants to buy the bluebird let me know, it sold on e bay about 3 weeks ago for £1500 and the buyer keeps fobbing me off about collecting it. if anyone wanted it for £1000 I’d be happy enough with that. There’s a for sale thread somewhere.

HMC Posted December 9, 2022 Author Posted December 9, 2022 Fleet news- the dog chewed written off Yaris verso is actually a pretty decent an car. It’s got a brilliant heater for starters. Zippy little autobox, nice light controls, and despite being beaten up it has the vibe of a faithful servant that’s been very well engineered and indestructible. The plastics are cheap and not soft touch, but where you can’t see people have been very bothered to make sure it does it’s job over and over. Plus as it’s disposable it’s a carefree ownership experience. A carefree ownership experience, earlier. Tickman, mk2_craig, Broadsword and 23 others 26

gadgetgricey Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Must admit when I had a knackered looking Mk2 1.3 Golf was just the same. Great car and would happily park it anywhere. I’m quite fussy about what the kids get up to in the maxima qx/ 300c what with their well preserved cloth/ crushed velour respectively. Meanwhile this yaris would not be any worse for younger people pissing/ vomiting/ insert disgraceful activity in it. Bring it on. It’s not bovvered. Its been brought back from an insurance industry imposed death and nearly ended up in Nigeria (and might still do, for a whole new chapter)
Marm Toastsmith Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I’m getting nervous that you’re never going to sell it! Agreed though… the micra serves the same carefree purpose… but the verso would be such a practicality upgrade!

HMC Posted December 9, 2022 Author Posted December 9, 2022 Slight thread drift but I recently bought some USSR detritus from the Ukraine. A sculpture of “Lenin in exile” that was a gift from a factory to the local wing of the communist party in 1972. This arrived faster than a purchase I made on the same day of a 1980s Afghan war rug, from near Bristol. So Vlad arrived from a war zone faster than a shiters version of the bayeux tapestry from Somerset. Six-cylinder, Dyslexic Viking, grogee and 14 others 17

HMC Posted December 11, 2022 Author Posted December 11, 2022 Used the maxima qx these last few days. It’s so bland and anonymous, reinforced by the front grille badge being missing Its styling is generic Korean / Japanese barge - instantly forgettable, and indeed forgotten. It’s pre Qashqai - from a time when Nissan UK were perhaps less certain of themselves, and still felt they needed to offer a barge, which was received with apathy by buyers. OE is an Oxford reg- and many of the original 90s qx models were Oxford registered as well. Makes me wonder if there is a HQ there, and if nobody actually bought these new and were registered by the importing parent company? Coprolalia, Dan_ZTT, Spottedlaurel and 11 others 14
RayMK Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 The QX I had from 2005-2007 was P679EAL (which I think is a Nottingham reg.). In my working days I used to visit the USA on business - generally Seattle area - and on one occasion the only hire car available at the airport was a QX. I was disappointed as I preferred to try the various USA makers, not a bloody Nissan which I'd never heard of. However, it turned out to be a 'full size sedan,' had a decent sound system and such a refined engine and transmission that I was impressed. The memory soon faded on return to the UK but on another occasion I was offered a Toyota Camry in Seattle and took it because the alternative was an Oldsmobile Ciera which I had tried on a previous visit. The Ciera was comically appalling to drive, so the Camry won - which was quite nice. A few years later I saw an advert for QX 2litre for sale at a dealer in Sutton Coldfield. The thought of refinement and luxury tempted me to cough up £3,800 and I was initially happy. My earlier post a few pages ago shows that that did not last! After I bought mine, I saw quite a few around here (South Northants area) but they all disappeared at about the same time I got shot of mine. Ebay used to have two or three quite regularly in the early 2000s. HMC 1
HMC Posted January 2, 2023 Author Posted January 2, 2023 This was a bit of an impulse purchase whilst I was at a curry restaurant on New Year’s Eve. It was just about the cheapest road legal Boxster, going totally against the matra of buying the best you can afford. Its had about 14 owners. Done 160k odd miles. Cosmetically a bit knocked about. So all the red flag stuff most people avoid with these. YOLO loserone, theshadow, Three Speed and 32 others 35
