RobT Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Meanwhile, sportka 1.6 se vs puma 1.4- which if either would you choose and why? Ahem, a 1.7 Puma for £170. Needs a CV boot and sill weldage for the MoT, but still. HMC Posted August 17, 2018 Author Posted August 17, 2018 ^ Brilliant! Just sniffed around a £395 Puma 1.7 and a £650 Mondeo ST24. Both tempting but repeat fails on mot corrosion put me off; we all know they rot but patches on patches on an annual basis sounds a bit ripe even for me. Where’s that autotrader puma?
RobT Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Essex, so bloody miles away I'm afraid. Depends what a Shiply comes in at I suppose.
trigger Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 That Escorts just like my old 1.6i Si, Mallard green IIRC? Nice cars and quite sporty looking at the time with the RS2000 style bumper. Nicely bought!
bramz7 Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Saw a pretty ropey Escort SI today in Colchester, also sporting a TW plate.
HMC Posted August 17, 2018 Author Posted August 17, 2018 Yeah, I think -TW is a chelmsford reg. Meanwhile, the escort is being delivered tomorrow.... Datsuncog 1
Pillock Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 Surely the directive from VOSA/DVSA/whatever is to enter the mileage as it shows on the odometer, not make it up as you go along??Yeah I guess.... Although that will always flag up as a discrepancy. It doesn't really matter as long as you stick to one way or the other, that history has jumps both ways because there's standard way of doing it
sierraman Posted August 17, 2018 Posted August 17, 2018 It’s a 20 year old Escort. You buy on condition with your eyes at that age.
HMC Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 The escort is here, I wasn’t quite ready for the full velourness of the interior.... Joey spud, drum, trigger and 23 others 26
bramz7 Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Nope I still really like that. I had a friend in school whose parents had a plush Orion Ghia and the rear seats were amazing. oldcars 1
sierraman Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Those velour seats look lovely. What’s the arches and the filler surround like?
RobT Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Does it have two sets of indicators, or are the ones next to the headlights wired up to be sidelights instead? I should know but don't. The lovely velour looks mintola. HMC 1
500tops Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 That is fantastic! Seldom seen these days, sadly. I know a lot of people don't rate 'em, but I think they're a good bit o'kit. Needs correct font 'plates for the win HMC and oldcars 2
Noel Tidybeard Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 i Does it have two sets of indicators, or are the ones next to the headlights wired up to be sidelights instead? I should know but don't.The lovely velour looks mintola. iirc quad head lights, seperate sidelights next to these then gingicators in the bumper next to fogs egg and HMC 2
HMC Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 The lights are a bit odd- as you say quad lights (carello) The they are wider than the standard units and no longer marry up with the wing/bonnet shutline, as the sidelights (housed where the indicators normally are) are a lot slimmer. To try and not make it not look too much of a dog’s breakfast there’s a little bit of a change in the chamfered glass margin of the light unit......... nacho man, RobT, egg and 4 others 7
HMC Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 Those velour seats look lovely. What’s the arches and the filler surround like? They’re good. I suspect it’s had the rear arch repaired on that side but it’s a decent enough job... Jim Bell and Burnside 2
sierraman Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Get some cavity wax in there to keep them that way. Decent ones of these a fetching good coin so when you need to you can flip it on EBay for some decent money. Jim Bell and oldcars 2
HMC Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 Also- did I mention VELOUR? blakey79, phil_lihp, Jim Bell and 15 others 18
oldcars Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Cream dash, fake wood, winning. blakey79 and HMC 2
sierraman Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Only way you could make this better would be with the entire RS catalogue stuck to it or the optional boot located Fax Machine. Brodders and oldcars 2
egg Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 What I like about that interior is just a whiff of Mk1 escort 1300e. It has that 'heritage'!
Noel Tidybeard Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 what material are the seats in this? i don't think you said before!
andy18s Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 They'll be std lights for the Si/RS trim levelTake care of them because Cosworth tax innit.....Does this have a tailgate release lever down on the floor? I would have expected the electric button ala RS on a GhiaAnd all that seems to be missing is the CD player (player,player,player.......) Edit..does it have the optional plastic boot tray? It lives under the std parcel shelf
RichL Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 I thought that headlight/sidelight set up must be same as the Cosworth. Never realised it was used on these as well until now. It's a minter that is
ProgRocker Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Nice buy HMC. My previous car was an M reg Escort with the oval grille. Unfortunately it was an ex-Essex Constabulary 1.8 LD saloon in white. It was so awful it was actually good. This 1.8i must shift like the preverbrial hot stuff off a shovel in comparison! Although the seat trim in mine is much worse than the velour in this Ghia, it was more comfy than my current Nissan Almera! Anyhoo that dark metallic green brings back memories. Variations on the 'British Racing Green' were in vogue in the early 1990s after ARG re-introduced it for the Mini Cooper. HMC 1
Jim Bell Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Straight as a Roman gait. Very well played indeed man. That interior is beyond sumptuous. Rave and ProgRocker 2
HMC Posted August 18, 2018 Author Posted August 18, 2018 My rusty but fun ford Ka is due a MOT fairly soon and I’ve been looking around to chop it in for a Puma/sportka as mentioned. Farewell ka, and thanks for all the rust So I’ve got a small, localish collection lined up tomorrow. These are the 3 the made it to the shortlist...... Jim Bell and Wingz123 2
