I was chatting to the owner of this for a while, it's the real deal and he owns a number of other 6R4s and he's the owner of Austin Rover Cars.

This Pete's (the owner of Swampy the blue Mk3) that he's finished restoring this week, it was amazing, I had a sit in it for a while, He's even fitted cruise control, heated front seats and a brilliant stereo system.

This Toyota camper was outstanding, totally orginal, never welded or painted and family owned from new.

Clutch slave cylinder is leaking badly. Ordered replacement part (which according to the BMW parts system is correct) from the states but doesn't fit. Suspect it's had a replacement box at some point from a different car but. I idea which. Got a part number off the gearbox but can't trace it backwards. Guy on BMW stand suggested a few forums to try and also the phone number of a specialist who should be able to help.

Send your old one to my work, Past Parts in Bury St Eds. We can rebuild it with a new stainless steel bore and new seals. Good as new when you get it back.

Didn’t know you worked there AngryD? I can certainly vouch for the quality, Past Parts did a superb job on my SD1 clutch master and slave cylinders. Not only good as new, but better than NOS.

You've missed plenty of exciting* news while you've been away Skiz! I got the job there back in July.

I was impressed with the Gay Car Clubs retro based stand

Good stand effort, but I still find the idea of this club as objectionable as ever.

You're gay?

Great. Couldn't actually give a shit what with this being 2017. We've kinda moved on now.

I'm more upset over the covering up of number plates meaning cars can't be identified. But that's been more than made up for my the presence of an Austin Somerset on the stand. I believe it's my mate Graham's.  :-D

Gay people still face discrimination even in 2017. The fact you find it objectionable says more about you than it does the members of the club me thinks.

The brown CX turbo estate was my car of the show. I also loved the Volvo 762 Bertone with its Yank lights, although Dollywobbler then directed us towards the Volvo stand where there was a proper GLE specced estate in an absolutely amazing colour with a 2.7 litre engine.

Hubba hubba.

I'm going to start a classic car club just for people who like old cars and Pink Floyd

Anyway.

I really used to enjoy this when I lived in Cov and it was just a number 900 bus ride away, but I couldn't afford the cost of getting there right now.

Still seems far better than the vaguely pointless London Classic Car Show at the Excel centre, which is almost entirely made up of trade stands and dealers charging top dollar for cars that would feature in "My first book to the most obvious classic cars imaginable".

I also have to avoid such shows lest my insatiable appetite for old brochures causes my bank account to prolapse.

But a club that is exclusively for a particular group is discrimination.

Surely the common interest in the club is classic cars?

Oh for Christ's sake.

Discrimination would be a 'No Queers Here Classic Car Club'.

But as I've said, we've moved on from that kind of nonsense and whether you fancy Ladies or Gents is utterly irrelevant. It's nobody's business but your own. Nobody cares anymore.

"Do I need to be gay or lesbian?

The majority of our group are gay or lesbian, but our policy is to make our group open to all, whether LGBT or straight. If you are happy in the company of our LGBT members, feel free to join."

From their website. I imagine they started the club in the 1980's as they enjoyed classic cars and wanted to meet up without having to worry about their sexuality being an issue.

Maybe I am biased as I have been meaning to join the club for ages and may actually get around to it next year.

Anyway this is probably not the appropriate place to discuss this, I just felt like making a counterpoint.

Is there a Lancia Gamma at the show?

Yes there is a bunch infront of the stand that DW is currently on (I'll pop back later to say hi). Started at 10am and got around most of the show now. Just sat down at the restoration theatre to give my feet a rest. Thoroughly enjoying.

No pics, because it's time consuming enough just trying to see everything!

Maybe I've been fortunate that the car clubs I've been involved with were a bit less stoneage.

One mini club member turned his back on and refused to speak to a respected club member because he bought a Bini, but that's all.

The local mini club had trans chairperson and no one batted an eyelid.

Anyway, at some point in the dim and distant past this thread was about the NEC classic show.

I go every 5 years or so because if you've seen one then you have seen them all.

I wonder what percentage of the show is new - as in not displayed before?

Indeed, the club was started when such things were an issue in the wider community.

Patron: Oscar Wilde.

I've found Mini club people to be almost militant when it comes to the BMW Mini - some of the letters written to (but not published by) Mini Magazines were downright offensive and mentioned Nazis. Get a fucking life and let folks live theirs.

I know a gay bloke who owns a BINI btw. Extra stoning points?

I agree in a way. So what who you like to have sex with, why let it define you and what you do. No one really cares, as above, we've moved on.

Anyway apart from that thanks for the pictures all that went and the videos from Dollywobbler. Love the green colour on the SD1.

I want that HiAce camper, and Pete Crompton's Tin Corner mk3 is well worth licking, 4 speed auto, trick stereo, heated seats, cruise....

Posted

I really need to attend this - looks brilliant.

As an aside, I drive a small convertible for fun. I’m heterosexual and I’m not a hairdresser.

Im scratching my head as to which club I should join.
